For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!

***Graze Group Build***
Rules:
Pick any 1/144 or 1/100 kit from the Graze family (Pic Related), and paint and customize it. As far as customizing it, I'm going to place a limit on that. The limit is 50% additions to the kit.
To define 50%, look at it like this, you could take a Graze Ritter and replace the arms (including shoulders), legs, and backpack and I'd call that 50%. I'm not counting handheld bits in that. If you're unsure of something please ask in IRC, the thread, or email.

Submission format
Please submit photos in jpg via a compressed file (zip, rar, or 7zip), please don't link images to imgur or photobucket or the like. Please also include some WIP photos of the kits being constructed/painted/etc as validation that it's your custom.

For your own sake, consider picking up a cheap HG to build before you tackle a RG. It'll give you a chance to get a feel for working with the plastics and processes like nub removal and sanding. Think of it like a tutorial for the more complex RG. I'm pretty sure everyone here will admit that in hindsight their first kit was pretty bad, and it would be a shame for that to be on a RG. Actual taste in frame aside.

The arms are RG Exia frames that were left over from RG Quanta. I'm gonna use the Razor's thighs as the bicep armor, cut them down to size so they fit properly. Still no clue how the fuck to make the shoulders work though, or what colors to paint it.

Hey guys, I started gunpla building last year but so far only made some basic 1/144 IBO stuff.

I was thinking about buying pic related but I wanted to ask here if someone knows if this guy requires painting or you can get away with the stickers.

Speaking of stickers, I've seen a whole set for Zephyranthes/Full Vernian sold separately, is it worth?

As you can tell I have no confidence in my painting skills, so for now I'm trying to get away with stickers.

It's called shading or color modulation. And occasionally highlighting.

What's the better version of the RX-78-2? The 2.0 or the 3.0? I'd imagine the 3.0 is better engineered but the 2.0 certainly looks more accurate.
>>
>>15114031
2.0.
>>
>>15114033
I see. Hmm. Did they really screw the pooch on the functionality of the 3.0 or is it largely down to aesthetic preference? I can see the appeal of both aesthetically (2.0 is far, FAR more accurate to the animation, but the 3.0 looks more "realistic") though I'm leaning towards the 2.0 because it looks much simpler to paint.
>>
>>15114044
>but the 3.0 looks more "realistic"
That's because it literally is. It, like the RG RX-78-2, is styled after and has the proportions of the soon-to-be-decommissioned 1:1 RX-78-2 statue at Gundam Front. The 2.0 also has more accessories and is more anime-accurate, but it's really up to you.

I personally like the 3.0 more, but that's just me.

>Why not the Origins version?

Simply put, didn't know it existed. Thanks for letting me know though, it looks to be the right balance between anime accuracy and a more modern take. This is all theoretical of course as I still need to actually pop my Gunpla cherry (as soon as my airbrush setup is sorted) and something tells me an MG isn't the best way to do that. I heard that the IBO kits are good starting kits, is that true?

>Why would they decommission it?
I think the weather was beginning to take its toll on the poor old thing. It's sad, but even the Gundam must rest eventually. I hope they bring it back eventually, I'd love to see it in-person. Either that or do a 1/1 Zaku.

A little bit of music to ease the pain:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HHdYXUHl06o
>>
>>15114178
It looks like Extreme Gundam or G Saviour.
>>
>>15114189
>>15114207
I feel like decomission is the wrong word, they're definitely taking it down and closing GFT for the moment but it's been said to be expected back up by 2019. Japan has a lot of pride in that thing, there's no way they'd leave it gone- they'd build it up further out and let nature take it first.
>>
>>15113336
All the yellow part beside V-fin gonna be sticker isn't it.
>>
>>15114207

The IBO are simple, but I personally don't really like them. Might be good for practice though. But after that, you should definitely go for the Origins RX-78. It's not that complex, and is amazing all the same.
>>
>>15114207
>Either that or do a 1/1 Zaku.

Hopefully that will finally encourage them to get off their ass and make new MG Zakus. The HG Origin kits are incredible and I want that magic translated to 1/100, damnit.
>>
>>15114368
They are quite divisive designs I'll admit. I haven't watched IBO yet (working my way through UC) but I do like the Barbatos' design, especially the variation with the thick sword/"tetsubo". Unless the reason you dislike 'em is functionality related, in which case I might go for something else.
>>
>>15114372
Have you built any of the Zaku 2.0s?

They are some of the best MG kits, the bar of which all other MGs should be measured against.

It has an actual inner frame rather than the sticks figures alot of modern MGs have.
>>
>>15114444
Also if you talking design wise they would likely just use the 2.0 frame, hell we might get a Zaku 1 2.0 from Origin
>>
Are there any kits that you thought looked like shit but then your opinion on them changed?

I didn't like a lot of the IBO S2 designs but I snapped together a Hugo recently and it's really quite nice.
>>
>>15114382

Yeah, it's how they look for me. Season 2's designs especially. I got the Barbatos 6th form and the Graze Custom, but even then I only dig the latter.

>>15114444

I haven't actually. I've been considering it, but I hold out hope that the advancements made in the Origins High Grades will be brought over to MG.

Hugo is the only S2 kit I've picked up so far

Not really, I just don't like most of the IBO suits because there's more to a suit than just looking cool, and exposing a waist that's only really connected by pistons would be a glaring vulnerability on the battlefield, it's like leaving parts of the chassis exposed on a tank and then wondering why it fell apart when it shot at the enemy target

Picked up a box of some 40k dudes on the "cheap" at my LGS since after building/painting nothing but HGs and Tanks for 2 years I felt it was time for something a little different. Looking online they're still as bullshit expensive as I remember them being back when I tried getting into it over a decade ago (See that Tech Priest on the right there? He's made up of about 12 parts (with 3 extra parts for your choice of head/guns), stands a little under 3 inches tall and costs $36 USD on his own). At least I got this box set for $70, I wouldn't dream of getting everything in it on it's own ($36+$39+$66 for the Tech Priest/Rangers/Dunecrawler)

Anyone else here /m/tg/?
>>

Once again /m/ proves it's the among the dumbest boards on 4chan.

Have you ever even stopped and thought about why tanks are called tanks?
>>
>>15115221

holy shit you guys can't stop getting shit wrong

they are called tanks because that was one of the code-words used to disguise what was being built and transported prior to WWI
>>
>>15115242
How does that conflict with anything I said?
>>
>>15115252

because you asked him if he had ever thought abut why tanks are called tanks, when it really has nothing to do with what you were talking about

>In his autobiography, Albert Gerald Stern (Secretary to the Landships Committee, later head of the Mechanical Warfare Supply Department) says that at that meeting "Mr. (Thomas J.) Macnamara (M.P., and Parliamentary and Financial Secretary to the Admiralty) then suggested, for secrecy's sake, to change the title of the Landships Committee. Mr. d'Eyncourt agreed that it was very desirable to retain secrecy by all means, and proposed to refer to the vessel as a "Water Carrier". In Government offices, committees and departments are always known by their initials. For this reason I, as Secretary, considered the proposed title totally unsuitable.* In our search for a synonymous term, we changed the word "Water Carrier" to "Tank," and became the "Tank Supply" or "T.S." Committee. That is how these weapons came to be called Tanks"
>>
>>15115262

so tanks are called tanks because guys on the committee didn't want to put up with jokes about being on the "W.C. committee"

hilarious

Are RGs, in general, more detailed than MGs? I've heard some say they're HG sized MGs but I've also heard people say they're more detailed than MGs and closer to PGs. Which is right?

it depends on model to model but id say that they are mg tier.

They have more surface detail than a lot of MGs, which are older than the RGs. Compare the MG Destiny to the RG.

I used to, more than a decade ago.
Last Citadel model I made was a Land Raider Crusader, kitbashed with a Predator autocannon turret replacing the roof-mounted hatch.
Just because I could.
The out-of-the-box manufacturing quality was pretty poor, however. The metal twin-linked assault cannons didn't fit the turret they were supposed to be mounted on.

My first kit was an RG MK-II, and the only thing I regret was doing the panel lines on the shield with a pencil (this was before I bought some Gundam Markers). It looks fine otherwise (and the shield itself doesn't even look half-bad).

If you're patient, delicate, not brain damaged, and if do a decent bit of research before starting your first kit, it's pretty hard to fuck anything up spectacularly. RGs also look fantastic out of the box and are engineered in such a way as to hide most nub marks, so these kits, while time consuming and intensive, are actually pretty newbie friendly (at least in my experience).

What's the best way to make deep cuts or split thicker parts into halves? Carving through them with an x-acto knife seems like it'd take hours.
>>
>>15117941

Scribe a guide line and then use a hobby saw.
>>
>>15117945
I figured it'd be something like that, at least for making huge cuts. Guess I'll have to buy one.
What if you need to just cut into a concave part? A hobby saw won't reach in that case.
>>
>>15117950

I guess just use a hobby knife or scriber and go really slow and careful? It would depend on the type of cut you are trying to make.

so about that MG Providence Gundam, what do you think is better? get the Devil Arts that just got released?, those effect parts look sick and it comes with a massive waterslide decal sheet

or wait for Bandai's own MG, which apparently, comes with only a few dragoon effect parts and no waterslides

Clear coating over primer.jpg
94KB, 691x793px
I masked and painted the bottom section of these two pieces. The guide says I should clear coat before proceeding onto the second color. Is it ok to clearcoat over primer , would it affect my finish too much (aiming for a flat finish when I am done painting). Sorry for such shoddy work.
>>
>>15118506
>crazy stuff for 1/72

Yea, Bandai's Star Wars kits are fantastic. I just picked up the 1/72 A-wing, the parts look great. All the Ertl and Revell Star Wars kits from the past 40 years really cant match Bandai's kits.

Any tips for the RG Sinanju? I overpaid on this kit, and I really want to make sure I don't fuck it up.

How do I make this look as good as possible? Are there parts I should just glue to save on aggravation? Any problems areas I should look out for in advance? etc.
>>
>>15118812
The waist joint is TERRIBLE. Once completed, I found impossible for mine to make it even stand up, an action base to display it is a must.

A mere out of the box build is enough for it to make it look good, as the red plastic is glossy and shiny and the gold chromed parts are dope.

However, be very careful when assembling the black parts for the sleeves and knees, they are very thin and can break very easily.

The shield is too heavy for the arm to even lift it.

While I love the Sinanju, the RG left me very disappointed, reason why I finally decided to buy the MG of it.
>>
>>15118795
>>15118796
Well shit, coupled with the ground Rodi parts, I'm going to have to buy several of these.
>>
>>15118833
Thanks for the tips. I've definitely heard this kit has major issues, but it looks so fantastic (and I'm not nearly practiced enough to paint an MG Sinanju). Any tips for not ruining the glossy red, or are the nubs generally well-hidden?

Also, is it worth it/even possible to panel-line the glossy red bits?
>>
Also, has anyone got experience using HG Sinanju Decals on the RG Sinanju? Is it do-able?

Thanks! The part I remember most about fabgeese was how he thinned the paint with industrial strength thinner.

I wanted to make it look like it was glowing.
>>
>>15118490
Nice, just built a TIE Interceptor, doing the water slides right now but I'm not sure if I should use the slides for the canopy or buy the masking set. Not even sure if I like the glas better than the open canopy. But you'll see on the Snowspeeder that they probably could have easily combined the cockpit glas and beams

Very likely the usual complaints about these being for casuals because of not needing glue or paint. Which is true, but people don't have to be faggots about it.
