Because I live in the timeline where Babbage's work in the field that would eventually yield general purpose computers was not only ignored when proper computers came into being, but was also actually completely without influence; computers are arguably just a reinvention of the wheel that was the difference and analytical engines.

Of course, the Babbage engines are more or less Jacquard looms with advanced features if you stop to think about it.

But still, we could've had computers significantly earlier than usual, and with technology that in its own limitations would have instilled a great need to program intelligently and optimally to minimize run times, something that would pay off in today's context where more often than not the available hardware is used as a crutch to make poorly written code run at an acceptable pace.
