It was good and had huge potential, but the so called ending was a huge let down. As they set it up for several more movie/episodes.

They had the first battle nicely concluded, only to leave with a full scale war and two other dark conspirators which where tangled into everything.

They left so much hanging in the end that it was like they may as well have stopped in the middle of production. As they clearly had bigger plans.

And in the end that huge lack of conclusion is why as great as it was, I wished I hadn't watched it.

I only hope the manga finishes all this cliff hanging madness, as I haven't found a translated version back when I looked.

The OVA didn't gave great BD numbers but it did fine with those toys manchild buy.

The TV anime however that had basically just a few minutes of new footage(which means they didn't lose any kind of money making it) had a really good 5.2k average.

Overall the series did fine, the problem here is that the author was on hiatus for a long time and his release schedule is slow. He also probably didn't like the idea for the filler OVAs that were cancelled
