Junichi was okay, he had more character than some rangers who appeared throughout entire series. His three focus episodes (and actions during others) gave him more personality than, say, Dan and Boi in Zyuranger or really any of the Dairangers. Tetsuya was pretty much just generic tough hansome guy but ehh, thats what a lot of blacks were back then.

After Fiveman, I think the only dated series is Carranger, which had lots of chrome you probably wouldn't find on a car series' suits if they were designed today. There's also the "Hanaranger" suits from Kakuranger, which look kind of like fetish gear, but those weren't a real sentai team. Prior to Fiveman though you had the Turboranger eighties car designs, the bad portions of the Liveman suits (never liked the lion head on Yellow's suit or Blue's dolphin helmet,) the Dynaman baseball uniforms, the pre-spandex stuff, etc.

I'm tired, and still a bit sick, but I finally finished Ohranger. I went in with an open mind, and came to the same consensus most seem to have, which is that Ohranger is really messy. Though it still had a bit of toku hokeyness to it, the original "dark and serious" tone of the show made it feel unique. After the re-tooling, the show kept itself from being wholly unremarkable by doubling down on being weird and goofy, with a couple of serious episodes making it through here and there. This was fine for the most part, although it still doesn't help it stick out among the greats of the decade. It picks up once Bomber the Great shows up, but then the writing really started to fall to pieces once the finish line was in reach. I also felt like this show had more deus ex machina than any other Sentai. Although I love him, Gunmajin existed to be a walking deus ex machina. There's a good Sentai somewhere in there, with some great ideas, and designs, but ultimately it's just a mess.

I just hope Kyuranger uses ancient civilization origins with its constellation motif, so that at least one Sentai entry doesn't misuse it for once. It seems that any time the writers at Toei are told to kiddify something hard, it goes wrong somehow (see Kabu/Robotack).

I've seen Akiba and Shiken, and I'm 17 episodes into Goseiger right now
I have to say, while Shinkenger definitely had better, more nuanced heroes and villains, I'm still kind of enjoying Goseiger a lot more. It's much more light-hearted but still really good and entertaining. It's more formulaic sure but I don't know how to put it, it's a much more enjoyable show than Shinkenger. The fights are great as well so far.

Shinkenger was praised back in the day for being more of a samurai drama then a full fledged Sentai, even though it was a Sentai still of course. The theme song even made it into the Japanese Top 40 charts, just like Go-Onger's did beforehand.

Some more, albeit random, thoughts - I love what Gunmajin brought to the show, and my favorite episode is the one where he and Momo teamed up. Nobuyuki Hiyama as Bomber the Great was fucking awesome. I agree that Kaizer Bulldont wasn't that great of a villain, although the build up to him was pretty good...Even if a robot head somehow escaping to a distant planet and building a lab makes zero sense. I thought Acha and Kocha were great, especially their voices, and their method to make Machine Beasts giant. I hate how Kingranger stopped doing the Bruce Lee-like "achas" after his first fight. Though the ending was a mess, it was worth it for how they handled the baby, as well as the scenes where Hiroshi Miyauchi got to kick some ass. They build up the fact that OhBlocker needs all 5 rangers with their hearts unified in order to pilot it, but then they drop it when 4 are able to pilot it, then Kingranger all by himself. Shouhei had potential to be my favorite green, but they never really did enough with the characters to make me really care.

Go-Busters' retool happened a lot earlier and it was a lot rough. Hirmou's character undergoes a pretty dramatic change in how he interacts with others and you see the unceremonious conclusion to the evil Megazord plot that was rolling for a good 10 episodes by that point.
