But if all these does come true. By then the mechas would've been considered to be very mundane and boring things. What's considered cool sci-fi would've become way more fantastical than what we have now. And having grown up in that environment, you would've ending lusting over another unobtainable shit again. Interesting, they finally came to the conclusion hydraulics are a dead end and used electric motors. It uses belts for drive reduction which will limit performance.

If they can get the software sorted out it probably wouldn't be hard to make custom motors without the belts that are far stronger.

It almost certainly is, them being safety tethers and all, but why would that matter in the slightest? Even if they're there, the tethers aren't tricking you in some manner by making it appear to walk when it really isn't. If you grab someone by the shoulders and lift them they can still walk, and that walking is still observable as being proper or having issues. The cables don't mean diddly. What matters is how it deals with different terrain and obstacles, whether it can rebalance and what it's range of motion is.
