I marathoned Zeta Gundam the last 2 weeks. I was very impressed. It is fantastic. I don't get the hate, my generation is so retarded sometimes.

Very few /m/ shows are like this. When a mecha show is bad, most of the time, it's just because it's boring and/or intellectually insulting.

Very few shows are over the top and crazy enough to reach the so bad it's good threshold, which is unfortunate and also very strange considering we're talking about giant robot shows. The very concept of a giant robot is absolutely ridiculous and bonkers, and yet very few directors acknowledge this and make shows that have the kind of grandiose absurdity that the concept implies. And in the rare instances that we do get those kind of shows, they tend to be pretty good.

The only bad ones I can really think of are Code Geass and Cross Ange's first half. Lots of delicious ironic enjoyment with those two. I've also been thinking that Gundam SEED could be like this (Fukuda has a talent for this kinda show), but between /m/ and SRW, all of the surprises have been ruined for me. I couldn't have fun with the shittiness because I'd see everything coming.

I couldn't finish it. It was so vapid. If this is what the best Gundam has to offer, then I'm not interested in going beyond. zz and came are probably just as bad or worse.

Honestly I had never been as enthralled in an anime as I was in Zeta. I sympathized with almost all the characters and was rooting/nervous for their survival.
