Yeah, that's because the director Imanishi has been fired right after the première of the third OVA. Getting IV done was very messy as it had to do without director which lead to Yas (Chief Director) to have more control and Unit Directors to have more responsibilities. All in all, the production can use the extra time.

The Origin introduces a LOT of dumb shit, (Agha, that knight-assassin, violent over-emoting), but I'd call it a some positive. Yas is really good at worldbuilding. UC feels more lived in here than in most Gundams.
