Good thing my little brother is just as much of a giant nerd as I am, I just sperged out over text messages to him about why I love Ex-Aid so far and trying to talk him into watching it.

Didn't work, but while explaining it I had a thought. Ex-Aid has been playing the video game theme more or less straight with very little wink-wink-nudge-nudge lampshading. This really helps the series because the jokes come more naturally from the game mechanics, and the drama can happen naturally from the characters themselves.

It manages to be utterly ridiculous and surprisingly compelling at the same time.

Sano had the motivation to fight in the beginning but became useless when he decided to stop fighting, and Tezuka was always a threat because he was like Shinji and told everyone to stop fighting

They're all technically canonical since there's nothing that retcons the A.R. worlds entirely. I think that it's debatable whether or not the World of Den-O is actually the main universe (and where Kurenai Wataru and Kenzaki "Why" Kazuma came from by extension), or if the Den-O series is within the World of Den-O and entirely separate from the main universe, or if the World of Den-O's continuity is exactly the same as the Den-O series. Shinkenger (and by extension, Super Sentai in general) is canon to its own universe, considering the Sentai crossover with Gaim had an appearance by Narutaki to confirm that the worlds have converged.
