It slots neatly into the timeline with nothing really happening. We've already seen all kinds of crazy Zeta-era stuff in all the side-stories, and they don't disrupt things noticeably.

Season 20 as a whole has been pretty rough so far (At least compared to last season), even if you ignore the Garrison stuff.

The season should've just focused on the Trolltrace plot as the overarcing story without the Member Berries. The JJ Abrams/National Anthem thing works if they just play it off on nostalgia without the Members as a framing device. The Denmark stuff is fine. Hell even the election stuff barring the rewrites so that Garrison won were fine (The whole Trump Transformation thing last episode was pushing it though, the joke was that Garrison was incompetent to be president, not that Garrison is Trump). The Member Berries just fell really out of place in the plot.

Saging myself for not/m/ and being a dumb rant. On a more related note I hope we get HGs of the Thunderbolt Goggs/Hygoggs/Z'Gok Es. They need new kits badly.

The Delaz Fleet and Gato especially wouldn't be hiding if you still had a sizable Zeon force still fighting the good fight against the Feds. Honestly I don't see that as a bad thing. I see gundam as something on the same level as good action film, a serviceable story with excellent visuals and sound design is really where the bar should be set.

I have to agree with >>14952613, and I think poor writing in particular is the single worst issue of newer series. A good, character driven story would be amazing, but I doubt we will be getting one any time soon. Also I have to bring up the fact that even the animation quality has dropped, good lord has IBO dropped the ball there.

A number modern gundam series have suffered from poor writing and don't do to well a job telling a cohesive story, and if you have QUALITY animation the overall experience is rather poor. But if you make a short, beautiful series that is a little light on the story, at the very least you can enjoy the visuals, music, and ambiance. I don't know about you, but I'd take the one that can attest to being exceptional in at least one aspect.

As for Daryl and Io, they're polar opposites of what the usual Zeon/Feddies Dichotomy we usually get in gundam. Io slowly decends into madness as he slowly comes to realize not even a gundam can help him defeat peglegs, while Daryl goes full Johnny Got his Gun and forfeits (in reality) his only remaining limb in exchange for becoming the warrior he could have been,

I was put off at first by how simple the prosthetics the Zeons had but in the name of the story, particularly when we see him again at Al Bao Qu, I felt like it really struck home and made the entire thing very real for me.
