The only reason why science fiction isn't horrifying is because in fiction, everything inconvenient can be brushed aside.

No matter how fantastical and exciting a sci-fi concept sounds, as soon as it's implemented in real life it begins to suck in ways we hadn't predicted (or had predicted but disregarded).

So don't be too sad. The world isn't sci-fi enough to be a complete nightmare yet.
