This may be one of the worst starts I've ever seen to a show. I was really confused because it feels like episode 1 was what you would expect from a 4th episode. No characters are really introduced outside their names being said, everyone acts really acquainted with each other, and the plot is skimmed and hardly touched on other than there's a war. It felt like so much was happening yet at the same time like nothing was happening.
Does it get better? Because that first episode was a major turn off. The main mech looks cool, though.
>>14933631
Things do slow down, yeah, although the overall conflict and setting always felt really vague. Like I don't remember them explaining why the army doesn't use airplanes.
>>14933657
It felt really awkward with pacing, I mean you don't get the main character saying anything until half way through the episode and even then I think he says sub 10 lines. It also felt weird how much of a huge gap the main mech is compared to all the armored core mechs running around and how they treated the nimble ones like a huge jump in technology.
>>14933631
Argevollen has an awkward first three episodes, but it steadily improves from there.
Some of the best /m/ on crunchy right now.
>>14933631
>Does it get better?
Yeah but you have to wait 15 episodes.
>>14933723
More like three epsiodes. The first two are pretty much the most retarded epsiodes of the series. It starts showing off what they could have delivered from episode four onwards, but they decide to not follow up on that more often than occasionally.
>>14933631
>No characters are really introduced outside their names being said, everyone acts really acquainted with each other, and the plot is skimmed and hardly touched on other than there's a war.
I fucking love this. Nothing grinds my gears more than characters who already work with each other needing to explain their purpose TO EACH OTHER or how the world fucking works.
It's like a new President shows up at the White House and the old one gives him a tour, saying, "As you should know, I am the President. And now so are you. This building is the White House. This is where the President--the leader of the United States of America (the country that we live in [located on the North American continent {one of the major landmasses on Earth <the third planet from the sun of our solar system>}])--lives in while he performs his duties. Those duties include leading the American people. As you also know, America was founded in 1776, when--"
Thanks, TV show, but I'm not an idiot. I can piece this stuff together on my own from the contextual clues. 2+2 adds up to 4. I've got it. This is a cartoon show about robots but I'm pretty sure the major audience is fat teenagers and lonely men who'll buy merchandise of the cute girls, not 8yo kids looking for plastic toys and need every plot detail spoonfed to them.
>>14933772
Except the point of a first episode is to introduce me to the world, the characters, the premise, and entice me to watch more. And it failed at that.
>>14933753
No, it's 15 episodes. They basically spend 15 episodes doing nothing until the show even starts to get interesting

For all it's faults, the argevollen crew felt like an actual military.
>>14939207
No casualties though.
>>14939229
They were a very small unit, and the guys without mecha was mostly on support duty. It's actually not that farfetched that they'd all survive, especially since the guys actually doing the fighting were all mecha aces.
The same thing can sort of be observed with real flying aces. If you are really good at what you do, your chances of surviving increases, and your wingmate's chances increase as well.
>>14940051
besides their commanding officers basically always used them for surgery strikes, or had them retreat to preserve their costly mechs. So in a way, the airforce comparison is valid considering how few war aircraft get shot down these days.
>>14933703
Any other /m/ shit on CR? A friend gave me one of those guest passes so I figure I should take advantage of it and watch something (besides Lupin).
>>14937032
It really is a pity they hasn't become a couple.
>>14939607
My biggest problem with the series is the Argevollen itself. Its a lanky, segmented, glowing sci-fi design in a world of chunky, drab military mecha. I don't dislike it as a design, I just wish they'd made it less completely unrelated to all the other designs.
Everything else about the series is decent though, and it doesn't fall apart at the end like a lot of cheap mecha shows do. Hopefully the people behind it get to do more /m/ shows.
is Argevollen a real robot series?
>>14941672
No, it's a fictional robot series.
>>14941672

Well, I don't think there was ever any hope of a sequel so I doubt that's what they were going for. I just think it was the payoff of a lot of buildup for the two cleverest guys who didn't know the other existed to finally meet.

BlassReiter is early-ish Urobutcher if you like your suffering mixed with mecha and mecha-monsters/zombies. Also there's motorcycles.
>>14933772
I know what you mean anon, but sadly you're in the vast minority. It's not just 8 year old kids, the fat teenagers and lonely men need setting details spoonfed to them too. Often repeatedly and right before the information becomes relevant in the show itself.
Letting the viewer piece things together on their own results in the show being declared "confusing" and "not making sense" and a horde of internet popularities screaming "EXPLAIN show, explain!" in their reviews.
Compare latest two tv entries in a certain popular mecha anime franchise. One of them didn't infodump and assumed the viewer is intelligent enough to pick basic information from what happens in the show. The other was almost insulting in how much it looked down on the audience and explained everything like it's talking to a retarded child. Guess which one is more popular, even amongst people who pretend they like deep and intelligently written shows. Spoilers: it ain't the former.
Final fight was a bit disappointing.
>>14958162
Something leaving things vague and to be developed is fine. Something not addressing anything and spending 30 minutes with zero context is bad writing. The first episode of this show felt more like I was four episodes in. Things don't need to explained ad nauseum until there's nothing left, but what this show did wasn't any better. This was unengaging and rather boring since expected you to understand and empathize with characters who each had their name said maybe once.

Japan does not acknowledge good anime anymore. You only buy crap like Aldnoah Zero and Macross Delta. You directly send the rare anime that try to be respectable into garbage while your despisable industry is falling.

It gets mildly interesting mid-series and totally kills it at the end. The show has some of the most retarded character you'd find in anime.
I think Richthofen was a genre subversion: in every other mecha genre he would have gotten his glorious battle, but here he was just a "Stupid man". Honestly, for some reason I was not even surprised that he just fell and died.
>>14982182
It was absolutely fitting.

He had no friends and comrads, that's what did him in. The show's very explicit about that.
