We don't really talk about Dai Guard enough. Shame that,

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

We don't really talk about Dai Guard enough. Shame that, it's a show that always makes me smile.

Too pure for this sinful board.
>>
Well there's not really much to talk about, unfortunately.
Hell of a fun show, though.

I dunno. I feel like there's a lot to say. It's pretty unique even in shows that are self aware or and I hate to use the word deconstructions but I like that it manages to do all of that while retaining a sense of optimism or without any cynicism.
>>
It's easier to talk about things when there's something to discuss, whereas Dai Guard is fucking perfect.

I'd say Daiguard is the one show on this board nobody shit talks. Everyone loves Daiguard.
>>
>>14932222

I think Ive enjoyed all of Xebecs mecha shows to some degree. It feels like they should have more credit as a mecha studio.
>>
The ending left me with a sort of an eeeh, but at the same time I was satisfied?
>>
Dai Guard S2 when?
>>
>>14929620
I think that's the reason why everybody loves Dai-Guard: it's damn clever and self-aware, but at the same time it keeps the idealism and fun that many shows don't.
More self-awareness in a show shouldn't equal seriousness.

Is there any other media, be it /m/ or not, that does the same thing? Off the top of my head, I can only think of Ultraman at its best moments or Astro City for capeshit.
>>
>>14932222
>I'd say Daiguard is the one show on this board nobody shit talks
you are tempting shitposters man
>>
I loved Daiguard's take on the monster of the week formula. Heterodynes being natural diasters was clever and a good break from them just being some kind of ancient evil. It did a good job addressing the damage a giant robot can do stomping around in a major city and how they needed to lure the Heterodynes to a more open area. It was a well-executed show.
>>
>>14929040
If we talk about it we risk the shitposters going after it. Dai Gaurd is too pure for shitposting.

You a Trek fan? Galaxy Quest was really good. Really got into a lot of the sillier Trek bits but never went into asshole LOL NERDS territory

that's all I can think of.

>>14934060

Well if there's any take away from the show it's defiantly about how we need to come together better to help people in times of natural crisis instead of worry about things like cost and blame.
>>
Very good show, but the ending was just meh.
Also in the English show that one chick who kept saying "pa-PA" in almost a british accent was off-putting.
>>
Aside from Dai-Guard, Patlabor, and Planetes, are there any other shows where piloting a giant robot or spaceship is just another day at the office?

And obviously I'm not counting GiTS.
>>
>>14934628
J-Decker, though in that case it's not so much piloting and more of the robots themselves having a day job.
>>
>>14934170
>Well if there's any take away from the show it's defiantly about how we need to come together better to help people in times of natural crisis instead of worry about things like cost and blame.
I'd say it really hits home when Ibuki decides to pilot Dai Guard after she had ptsd.
>>
>>14934788
Speaking of Ibuki, I was really pleasantly surprised by the amount of development she got.
I think overall they did an okay job giving the three equal time and development, but I wish Aoyama had gotten a bit more than his sick mom to deal with.
>>
>>14934919

Well I think it would have stretched credulity if all three pilots had SRS DRAMA the same way Ibuki did with her pop.
>>
>>14934919
Honestly if I had one gripe with this show it's that Ibuki became a bit insufferable at points. I get she's got issues but at points she just came off as stubborn and selfish.
>>
>>14934628
>>14934637
That gives me an idea for a show. "Invincible Robot Corporation". It would be about a business where sentient "Brave"-like robots work and are sent out to fight aliens/monsters/whatever. Episodes could be about things like:

>a flying monster attacks, but all the winged robots are busy, so they have to improvise
>a robot is unenthusiastic while fighting a monster and has his pay docked
>a three part combiner gets injured while trying to combine, but they don't get workers comp, so the three component robots go on strike
>robot fails to defeat a monster, and is humiliated to find the company has hired a "Great" version of himself to replace him
>>
>>14934628
They don't pilot a big robot, but powered armor, but the OVA called Shinesmen was pretty good for the two episodes that exists. I thought it was funny as well, especially the English dub of all things.
>>
>>14936803
Kazuhiko Shimamoto's Hero Company has a similar concept (for those wondering, HnG is periodically scanlating it).
>especially the English dub
Always count on Coastal Carolina.

>I wish Aoyama had gotten a bit more than his sick mom to deal with.
I wish we had more of Aoyama in general. Even in the deisgnated Aoyama episodes, he still felt like a side character most of the time. For example in the snow episode toward the end, even though Aoyama dealing with his childhood friend was pitched as a major plot point for the arc, all the screen time got wasted on Akagi and that retarded pilot. Sure it wasn't a bad subplot, but Aoyama should have had the focus for the entirety of that arc. He never got full episodes to himself like Akagi and Ibuki.

Then again, maybe that was just an intentional deconstruction. Aoyama was the cool and collected "third guy" who balanced out the team and didn't like being in the spotlight. It's a long shot but maybe he seemed more like a side character because he was actively trying to be one.

Shafting one character's focus eps seems to be an odd Xebec habit.
>>

yeah that was rough. The really sad part is, it was still more than Hikaru and Izumi got. Combined.

Any other scenes I should get? Dai-Guard was great but there aren't many straight action sequences worth turning into webms.
