Maybe it's because I haven't watched the original Gundbuster in ages, but I feel like Diebuster would have been better as a blatant homage than an actual sequel. It was a fun ride, but more than anything it just made me want to rewatch the original.
I watched them back to back and it made me feel the same way. It's an okay show but compared to the original it can't match up.

Millenials dont want to watch 80s animation
If you are a millenial, you are the exception
Millenials wants FLCL type animu that Diebuster was
>>14928678
>millennials dont want to watch 80s animation
Do you even know what a millennial is? Or is it just your catch all term for "younger than me"
>>14928712
Millenials are older than I am.
>It's a "Im angry it's not the 80s anymore thred"
No because homages are shit
see: Gunbuster being a shitty homage of Aim for the Ace
The only good parts were when it wasn't copying it
>>14928712
It's a catch all term for "people I don't like".
I watched both Gunbuster and Diebuster multiple times and really liked bothbut Diebuster is better
>>14928678
You might be talking about kids born in the 90s.
Millennials born in the 80s usually watch old school anime as well. Many of us even prefer it.
>>14928735Agreed.
>It's a "millennials pretend to like 80s anime" thread
>>14928902
>Pretend
>>14928361
Aren't we supposed to hate Gunbuster now?
>>14930210
dont jump ahed of cnoclusons, snoriko
>multiple /m/ posters saying they enjoyed Diebuster
Is the dark age finally over?
diebuster's lelrandumb and art style is all shit regardless of having anything to do with gunbuster.
>>14935020
>lelrandumb
Yeah why can't it be more like that anime that started with those girls in PE uniforms having a giant robot schoolyard fight with legendary martial arts special attacks they pulled out of their ass?
they're both bad
but diebuster is much worse than gunbuster
>>14936291
>they're both bad
Why do Millennials hate everything? I have never seen such a miserable generation.
At least Generation X had a fun attitude even if they were slackers.
>>14936646
> one anon hates two things
> that equates to all anions being part of a specific sub group who hate everything
Why are you generalising something there's absolutely no need to?
>>14935020
>expressive and fluid character animation is bad
>>14936661
It comes with being a bitter old cunt.
As for me I don't care for Diebuster, it's honestly pretty boring aside from the last episode.
>>14928361
Oldfag
>>14928361
>Diebuster
I prefer Diebuster over Gunbuster, but both are still really good shows.
>>14936291
Nah, Gunbuster is a homage to Aim For The Ace! You're better of watching the original then the fake.
Diebuster took the thematics of Gunbuster and spun it into its own unique and original story.
Tsurumaki is creatively superior and better then Anno. That's simply an undeniable truth.
>>14942505
undeniable is the fact people can't be objective, true, Diebuster was better animation, but the story???, too on drugs on FLCL levels
>>14942580
Diebuster's story was fairly tamed and cohesive. Quit with the embellishments.
>>14942580
>undeniable is the fact people can't be objective
My nigga
this post is kind of a mess but fuck it
Diebuster is better paced, but Gunbuster is better overall.
Especially on an individual episode scale, Gunbuster just tells a more interesting story, Diebuster is actually a tad dull at parts despite its wackiness.
Ignoring 80s vs 2000s style, Gunbuster is a show with a greater attention of detail. Doesn't help that the CG in Diebuster is kind of naff.
There's time dilation playing a major role, the space aliens, the Gunbuster itself being ridiculously great, the absolutely fantastic last episode -- the whole thing is more memorable. I watched both series back to back, and it's actually kind of hard for me to remember the events in Diebuster now vs Gunbuster's.
Still, as a series, Diebuster comes together more fluidly. There's nothing like how Noriko kind of sucks at doing things and it's drawn out that she's not very good and then suddenly she's in Gunbuster and becomes an avatar of destruction, the tone is more consistent in Diebuster, the pacing is more consistent, etc.
