I dropped it shortly after the Nin-Drive crossover, it just didn't click right with me. Dunno if it's just that I have shit taste or something, but I also dropped Kyoryuger after around episode 20 since it seemed to lack the pandering to the peripheral demographics that most other Sentai had (which I found surprising given that Sanjo also did Double and Fourze before this show).

And there's still the part of me that wants to finish both those shows so that I can watch the crossovers with Go-Busters and ToQger, just to have some closure. Feels bad, man.

Caught up with Zyuohger

It's a rather tame season with nothing really exceeding expectations. I like all the characters but I don't necessarily love them. Yamato's very standard for a protag. Misao is great but I could see him wearing his welcome on other people. Amu is pretty great when she's manipulating people. I really want to like Sela more but she doesn't do much. Tusk is alright. Leo is okay too for the "Loud & Boisterous" character.

Sela and Leo's rivalry went fucking nowhere and I don't expect it to at this point. It's a real shame because I feel like they needed something more. I feel like maybe the Sumo episode was a good chance to keep that up.

It's a very okay season. I'm not sure how you guys are handling it..

Maybe the first few episodes were really promising? Go watch it again. The villains were pretty violent, they were making liberal use of their new drone camera for action scenes, and the good guys were actually making the Hero thing a priority (the last two years the heroes cared more about finding their home or getting good grades than saving people)

Then Misao happened, then Bunglay happened, and here we are.

They also killed like two generals in 5 episodes, which made it seem like the plot would quickly go somewhere. He felt like a Discount Basco who's a threat in the first half of the series instead of second half. He didn't really fit into the show like the rest of the characters, and he was just nasty for the sake of it. I didn't really enjoy his presence as much as, say, Juuzo, but he did the job he was supposed to, which is as much as anyone could ask for.

The problem is that he also didn't really have any real link to Yamato besides "I don't like how happy-go-lucky your attitude is," which made him less engaging overall. Like, with Juuzo, you had a demonic bloodlust-driven swordsman who found a worthy opponent in Takeru and then challenged him for the rest of the series, and who wasn't just a single-dimension "I wanna hunt the giant whale!" enemy. With Basco, you had a former crewmate of Marvelous who was also hunting for treasure and who was willing to backstab Damaras to further his own agenda. And then there's also others like Enter who are in a whole class of their own.

His ability to instantly pull monsters, even giant ones, out of his ass at will felt overly convenient, his badass fighting ability more than made up for it though. I didn't feel that he was a detriment to the show, but he wasn't handled as well as he possibly could have been.

I decided to finally try watching Zyuranger

Takeru, Mako, and Genta are the ones who get a lot of ~screentime~ and dialogue, and Mako even gets a sort of rivalry with Dayu. Kotoha will remain on the sidelines a lot of the time and her character stuff is fairly subtle, same with Chiaki. And the mech stuff will never really be outstanding outside of the finale, which is probably one of my favorite mech fights for sheer emotion alone. It's so nice they recycled it for the christmas episode of Go-busters

You know what? The first few episodes were crazy interesting thanks to how dark and scary the plot was and shit, but I think this is the first time I actually got a sense of the main team's personalities and cared about them as a team. As interesting as the first eight episodes were, it was hard to care about any of them since they were fairly heroic but there was little attempt to differentiate them character-wise

So yeah, bless you Inoue. You may write women horribly, but at least you managed to make me care about the team, which is Ohranger's biggest weakness for me this early on

Finished Goseiger this weekend blokes. For any of you dudes who haven't seen it, I'd definitely recommend it. I heard some negative things going in, and it turned out to be a pleasant ride.

Alata was a pretty great red. Rest of the team were passable. Mechs were pretty cool, and Bladerun might be one of my favourite sentai villains.

Oh, and for in-training Guardian Angels I think these guys might be the most efficient sentai team of all time. Gaoranger was my last sentai and I thought they had done a pretty neat job of having multiple evil factions, but they got blown away.

tldr; this show was a lot of fun

I'd started with Jetman. Good entry point for classic sentai stuff. You have a good set of villains complimented by metaphorical monsters of the week. Protagonist also have an interesting relationship with the Antagonist.
