Is /m/echa a dying genre? Do series like Gundam exist solely to advertise plastic toys ?

>Is /m/echa a dying genre? Do series like Gundam exist solely to advertise plastic toys ?
Mecha is a dying genre as much as any anime genre is a dying genre.
For your second question, 100% yes, Gundam post 00 exists solely to fucking sell those idiotic toys.
>>14920774
>post 00
>not post Turn A
>>14920774
Why do you still watch /m/echa shit then?
>>14920771
>>14920774
Are you faggots trying to tell me you don't like plastic toys?
Lookahere shitheads; if you can't uniornically enjoy media that is effectively for children you're gonna have a bad time. It's made to look cool and sell toys and shit works. If that's a problem then you're free to leave and find a new hobby any time. Gunpla are great.
>>14920782
> post Turn-A
> not post 0079
And even then it's only because 0079 was advertising toys and not models, since that wasn't the focus at the time.
>>14920774
>Gundam post 00 exists solely to fucking sell those idiotic toys
What kind of toys are we talking here outside of Gunpla?
>>14920786
I'm not a kid anymore. I sold all my transformers 5 years ago.
>>14920799
ow the edge
>>14920799
You are too old for this board grandpa.
>>14920799
Then what the fuck are you even doing here?
>>14920821
I came here to laugh at you.
>>14920799
Mecha has always been about selling toys at its core. Don't lie to yourself.
>>14920774
>Not liking Gunpla
The fuck's wrong with you
>>14920771
>Do series like Gundam exist solely to advertise plastic toys ?
Are you fucking stupid?
Because im pretty sure youre extremely fucking stupid.
>>14920825
Thanks, you too
>>14920783
>Why do you still watch /m/echa shit then?
Who says I'm still watching modern mecha series ? I'm completely disgusted by modern Gundam and haven't had the desire to watch Gundam The Origin, Thunderbolt, and IBO. I was as much disgusted by Macross Delta.
These days I revel in old (as in 1980s) mecha series. I've watched Dougram in the last couple of months and now I'm starting with Xabungle.
>>14920774
With the exception of Reconguista.
The MS in GRECO were not designed with gunpla in mind. Which is why most of the suits are without kits, and the kits that do exists, aren't that great.
>>14920799
Not the same.
Gunpla is for building.
Transformers is for playing with.
>>14920910
Thunderbolt was great though.
>>14920790
Gundam themed dildos and buttplugs.
It's why IBO went full melee combat.
>>14920917
They are both toys.
>>14920912
You don't actually believe that do you? They don't have gunpla because Bandai had no confidence in it's ability to shift product, not because the abundance of designs weren't designed with the possibility of gunpla in mind. That's like saying the majority of designs in Wing, X and Turn-A weren't designed with gunpla in mind. And they'd hardly be the only ones. Lots of AGE units got no gunpla either. Stuff from Try too.
>>14921032
What
>>14922181
He's saying that shows without lots Gunpla don't necessarily have robots that weren't designed to be Gunpla- it's just that Bandai didn't think they'd sell.
>>14920771
I think not anon.
>>14922186
How does this prove anything?
>>14920771
>Do series like Gundam exist solely to advertise plastic toys ?
>>14922191
You don't understand, it premiered at a niche festival and to keep the ball rolling, it was hyped up as part of a USA vs Japan thing that generated minor buzz that has not actually taken place
>>14920771
No.
Technically yes.
>>14922195
a giant robot statue would get the crowd's attention anyways.
>>14920804
Of the crater
you guys get easily baited
>>14922386
>merely an act
>>14920912
>With the exception of Reconguista. The MS in GRECO were not designed with gunpla in mind. Which is why most of the suits are without kits, and the kits that do exists, aren't that great.
GRECO did many things right. It just didn't have enough episodes to fully realize the story.
I wish it had been 50 episodes like Turn A, or at least 35 episodes.
>>14920917
Gunpla is for both building and for playing with. After all why buy models of mecha that kill eachother in-show if you`re not going to pretend they`re doing it IRL,only the way you imagined it? Boring faggot.
>>14922446
They are called plastic MODELS for a reason. They are too brittle to be used as toys. Have you ever built a gunpla?
Yay my thread is still alive
>>14922481
>They are too brittle to be used as toys.
If you're a hamfisted dumbass.
With the increasing interest in real military topics like tanks, guns, and ships, I think mecha might die for real.
>>14920774
>Gundam post 00 exists solely to fucking sell those idiotic toys.
>post
>>14922867
Tanks and planes have always been popular. They're not going to kill off mecha.
Besides tanks, planes and mecha can all coexist.
>>14923363
Only in the west.
>>14922481
>They are called plastic MODELS for a reason. They are too brittle to be used as toys. Have you ever built a gunpla?
They're toys. Most of them anyway. The real model kits are those Gunplas costing hundreds of dollars. But the models that cost what 10$-20$ in Japan, they're definitely toys and are priced as such.
Mecha like anime in general isn't "dying" per se but rather just going through an evolution much like videogames. What I'm trying to say is it's turning into shit but it's shit that sells to a new generation after the previous generation got old and unprofitable.
>>14920771
>Do series like Gundam exist solely to advertise plastic toys ?
As long as it has market presence, yes.
>>14920771
OP is a pic
It's sad. Most if not all Gundam series post 00, with the possible exception of GBF, have been complete trash.
>>14925138
Just need a good multiplayer mech game.
>>14924589
Japan has always had military model kits, you fuck.
>>14922868
>>14920771
>Do series like Gundam exist solely to advertise plastic toys ?
Yes. It's been like that since the beginning. The reason why Gundam is a franchise and hasn't faded into obscurity after 0079 is because it moved plastic.
>>14924678
>Mecha like anime in general isn't "dying" per se but rather just going through an evolution much like videogames. What I'm trying to say is it's turning into shit but it's shit that sells to a new generation after the previous generation got old and unprofitable.
Tell that to the 40-50 year old UC fans. They're basically buying any kind of shit as long as it has a connection to the UC timeline. These people can't die off quickly enough.
>>14925221
It's not as popular there though
