One of the reasons I like this show so much is that the main rival character is a Kira Yamato type faggot that gets utterly BTFO by the space cowboy pilot on the right. And then after that, he gets even more BTFO by the little girl on the left.

It was a very satisfying show.

Go watch VOTOMS. And then watch Gundam anyway and just get used to the idea of teenagers piloting robots. The best shows will integrate that into the plot line. Something I like a lot about the original gundam is that it actually makes a big deal out of how amateur the kids are, and we see Amuro grow from a total scrub into a killing machine.

That's not what the show is trying to say, it's trying show Amuro's growth from some teenager into someone who's forced to grow up and become a soldier. Its not trying to make Amuro becoming a good soldier something cool, its doing it for the drama of how it affects him. Look at how is mother reacted to him shooting the Zeon soldier

That's the point, yes. Also, while not a teenager or adult, Yuuta did get to pilot his Brave briefly near the end of his show.

To be fair it's one of the only series where the random selection of pilots was given a reason. You need near superhuman endurance to survive piloting a Getter due to the extreme G's you feel. Pilot ability could be taught as the Getter was made user friendly (mental link and if you count the OVA voice commands) and designed for three people piloting it to lighten the load on each pilot. They even show you need some base intelligence since at first Musashi fails the aptitude test required for basic piloting skills, but even his stupid ass got the hang of it after an actual mission.

Saotome also had to choose people that would be compatible with Getter and each other since it takes all pilots to be in synch. You include the fact that Saotome hated the government and was a manipulative asshole and you can see all the pieces fall into place why he wanted impressionable youth he could mold into expert pilots.

Either way it doesn't matter since the OP is being pig headed, most of the children in Gundam are fucking psychics which is why they are better pilots than trained adults. They eventually grow into their piloting ability and at first are almost wholly abusing latent newtype powers. It would be different if they were literally just baby geniuses and nothing else, that would be bullshit, but most of the kids have literal superpowers that make them better pilots.
