Assuming that either X hadn't tanked the franchise, or that Bandai stubbornly pushed on ahead regardless, what would a 1997 Gundam tv series have been like?
They probably would've finished X like they originally intended and then put out another random AU show with a dumb twist.
>G: Battle royale brawler in a darker, unfriendly future
>Wing: Beautiful people in beautiful machines fighting beautiful wars
>X: Post-war generation growing up in the ashes
I think considering what came before it and what was kind of popular/really trendy at the time (Escaflowne, Utena, and Nadesico come to mind), we would have gotten another Gundam series with a kind of flowery or semi-fantasy presentation (definitely no aliens or transforming Gundam, however). Remember we had 08th MS Team OVA going on, so I don't think they would have gone for the hardcore military grit for a TV series when they were doing an OVA.
Domon was kind of a jerk, Heero was a soldier, and Garrod was a street rat smartass. Maybe a protagonist who had a sense of chivalry that would have defined the majority of his actions taken.

if I had to guess it would look Evagellion after a while. If not right away definitely a series where it's influences were obvious. Hell it's not that hard,
>Char Clone wants to create instrumentality
>MC would have major Daddy or Mommy issues
>Organic gundam
>Maybe some Obari animate
Who knows I know some /m/en would be triggerard by the idea but it's not hard to think with all the Sunrise shows that did have that influence at the time that it might have slipped into Gundam at one point.
World Tour
European Nobility Wankery
Post-Apocalyptic
Next on the list may have been a more Japan-centric series in terms of locale, cast, etc.
1997?
XTREEEEM sports in mobile suits.
X already started with snowboards, a '97 Gundam would have had a rollerblader, a skateboarder, and a surfer. And they'd battle an evil corporation that was using the Gundam Games for sinister purposes like testing genetically engineered cyborg super soldiers or something.

>cyberpunk Gundams in Future 90s Tokyo while riding on hoverboards vs noble Japanese samurai mobile suits
So Jet Set Radio Future meets Eureka Seven with a cheesy mid/late 90s flair.
Maybe the hoverboard can be a shield like Maxter.

>either X hadn't tanked the franchise
Nice meme.
X came out right when Japan's big 90's economic bubble burst. And even if that didn't matter somehow (and it does), there was a new Gendum series like, 2 years after it ended.

But there was one, remember?

>Fukuda helms it after Cyber Formula as the ideal candidate
>Sunrise gives him the keys to the kingdom after it makes bank and SEED happens anyway
And so our timeline reasserts itself with nary a ripple.

The economic bubble burst in Japan in late 91. It might have taken a while to trickle through various industries, but X aired in 1996, 4 to 5 years later, and it didn't take that long.

I would love this anime to death, had it happened.

A Gundam where the mobile suits are used primarily for racing purposes rather than as military fighting machines. Would include heavy amounts of multi-track drifting. Probably a sub plot about evil mega corporations doing what evil mega corporations do best.

What's the point when you could change the channel and watch Initial D First Stage.

Multi-mind understanding.

>Organic gundam
I like this, but I wouldn't want it to be obviously organic like the Evas, maybe something like King gainer or Eureka seven where you can't really tell until you get a good look at it

Watching this in slow motion, I just noticed that the thumb goes behind the glasses until he starts pulling them away.
