I think one of my favorite things about this show is how the rangers are really just people. They crack jokes, they're lazy, they have a job and are friends to each other rather than battle hardened "nakama". It's so eandearingly mundane.

And to the very end Carranger manages to be completely non-sensical.

Exhaus is a really interesting villain too. He's like this greater evil presence. I don't think there's been something quite the same in the other shows ı've watched, the most similar are probably the Hades Gods from Magi.

Still only on the early parts of Gokaiger here myself, been on-and-off with the Sentai for a good long time right now.

Going to take a while to catch up at this rate, I'm behind about...four seasons or so before I'll catch up to what's currently airing?

So after the Star Wars idea, ı got fired up and started imagining how a Space Opera themed based on it Sentai would go, here’s what ı thought up:

The show starts with White crashing on Earth while running away from the Imperial forces. She sends a distress signal that is intercepted by soon-to-be-Red, a cocky outlaw looking for profit (think Han Solo or Starlord). He finds White, who turns out to be the last daughter of a clan protecting a sacred giant robot (think Leia in episode I, alongside Ninja White or Abare Black). They are then found by soon-to-be-Blue, a naïve rooky of the Rebel forces with a lot of talent. Red is about to leave them be when they are intercepted by an Imperial squadron lead soon-to-be-Green, a veteran lieutenant of the Imperial forces who has grown cynic but believes the order of the empire is better than nothing. A laser fight ensues, the imperial forces retreat leaving their wounded lieutenant, then tended by White. She then reveals the ship she escaped on was the mech, which then chooses them to be its pilots. Then a giant eldritch monster shows up and it’s revealed the Empire is being secretly controlled by a much darker force. They kill the monster, end of episode.

Things go from there. Tension occurs as Green and Blue clash because of their allegiances, the others can’t trust Green, he is torn between his loyalty to the empire and owing his life to White, Red having no scruples and no restraint in calling others out, White trying to make them understand the problem is much bigger than their lives. After the first third of the run the empire is defeated, and a Republic is formed, but soon it becomes obvious it’s going to become just as corrupt as the previous state, or rather that it always was. Blue becomes disheartened by this reveal but he overcomes it thanks to the bond he formed with Green, to which he now can relate. A fifth shows up in the form of Shadow, a “brother” of Red, who looks just like his younger self in a picture(!) and has his with his own dark mech (think AbareKiller, Dark Buster, Dragon Ranger, along with Siths); this reveals that the dark force has begun to infect Red, but this eventually backfires as he gets an upgrade after confronting his dark side. Enter the last third of the show and the real villain is revealed to be the man who Red and Shadow were cloned from. After White comes to term with her hate of this man for killing her family, and Shadow comes to see that he doesn’t care for his wellbeing and sees him as expendable, eventually turning to the good guy’s side (resulting in the dark mech being purified and combining with the main one), they manage to defeat him and all the great horrors, but not after he tells them the dark power will always exist--which they answer saying that so long as it does, heroes of light will also always raise against it. The end.

Through the show the main mech gets upgrades in the form of weapon or armor (which Shadow’s steals): sword, guns, wings, etc. The motws are only giant and they are directed by semi-regular commanders of the different factions.

There is barely any team-to-team interaction, with the Kyoryugers acting like dicks for no reason.

The main villain does nothing and isn't even defeated with a climatic mecha fight, just dispatched with everyone zapping him from the ground. The clock monster was pointless and only served to deprive us of Utchy screentime. The actual Shadow Line barely does anything.

It barely has any jokes in it. Literally the only inspired moment is when Baron Nero attempts to begin a Shadow Line roll call. It was so inspired that they had to recycle it in the ToQger Returns special.

Gotta say, it's probably the worst one I have watched. And I don't hate it, it's just really underwhelming when it lacked interaction between the teams and they didn't even have a mech fight for the climax.

The main issue is that it generally comes alongside a general lack of focus on the returning team. I wouldn't care if the movie villain is just related to the current show and has nothing to do with the older ones, who just join in to help, but the old team should have character moments too. It's not illegal at all. Translations are only protected by copyright if they significantly transform the original work. For example, there are a lot of classical greek/latin works that are heavily modified and rewritten when translated.

Toei/Saban/Shout can use the translations as they see fit because they have the rights to the original work and MFC doesn't have a copyright claim.

I'm thinking what happened is that whoever they contracted to do the translations this time made this choice on their own, because Shout wasn't shy about asking fans for help when they were TL checking Dairanger
