SIC's approach isn't about making Character "realistic" it's about reimagining the characters in a new shape, form, style.
The characters they base their designs off of are already "realistic", it's just when they put their flare on them, they come out as:

Ex-Aid's Rider won't lose their "Retro Gamer" appeal too much, and are more likely to become more "retro" and "80/90's" than now.
