There's always been this sort of mysterious atmosphere with Gundam SEED that wasn't in other gundams, SEED is the only Gundam TV show that I've binge watched episode after episode into the early AMs because I was so excited about what would be in the next episode. I guess it's maybe more "healthy" to have series that don't give you this kind of anticipation but SEED for some reason gave me some kind of investment in the story that I never found in any other Gundam media, even 08th and 0083 which are my favorites in the franchise.

And like, even though I knew it was just a rehash of 0079 with emphasis on lame ass ~emotions~ compared to the original it somehow felt really fresh.
Maybe it's got something to do with the limitations of technology in this timeline - after all, Cosmic Era is the only setting in Gundam where they don't put some kind of magic nuclear or other reactor in the mobile suits to make them tick for as long as they do, and the ones that DO have nuclear engines use actual fission so the meltdowns are pretty serious. So then you have all these fights where people on both sides are constantly pulling out for want of battery power, which was kind of cool to be honest.
Another thing was the Phase Shift armor system - I think it sort of helped that I played the Battle Assault for SEED on the GBA, if you play as Lowe Guele or Rau Le Creuset the game is basically fucking impossible because you have to break the enemy's Phase Shift armor in most cases before you can even begin to do serious non-chip damage since Lowe and Rau's beam armaments are either nonexistent or extremely limited

This is a very small tidbit, but I enjoyed how the phase shift armor essentially justified the gaudy colors of mobile suits by showing the powered-down versions with a more metallic and natural look

Seed has some awful writing and utter silliness, but it was the last big Gundam series to feel like something new.

As in this is not just an AU that will last one season but it's a huge fucking show that could be the new UC and it's completely different.

Also, the mecha designs are over the top and fun in a way that modern Gundams are not. They're purely toyetic in a series that was made around toys.

There was much eye-rolling and facepalming at the very beginning, because the premise of Orb suddenly wanting to join the Federation that invaded them to steal their massdriver only three years prior, but that was really my only problem with it. There's an 11gb torrent on nyaa that's dvd rip of both SEED and Destiny. 100 episodes in 11 gb means it's probably the original, since the Destiny HD remaster is 27gb by itself.
