I kept seeing people ask about it, and mentioning that I didn't post on the twitter anymore, so I felt like I had to explain it.

Most of what you'll want to know can be found in the twitter posts I made. The tl;dr though is

A few reasons I can't.

1. Kickstarter, and similar sites, don't allow you to setup an account if the bank account you're using isn't associated with certain countries. I don't belong to those countries, and I don't have bank accounts in them so I can't use it.

2. There's an exception in Indiegogo, and I think Patreon, but the problem with using those is that you'll need to have something visually impressive and I don't have that. It'd take a lot of money to overhaul OQ's graphics, or put together a visually appealing demo. Basically, money I don't have to get money I'm not guaranteed of obtaining.

You don't get Tim Schafer bucks as an unknown Tripfag who can't even get the funds to whip out something that looks good.

Kickstarter scams always had a hype machine going around them and produced a feeling of legitimacy. VF's got it right, a no-name with relatively little to show won't get kickstarted, whether he is genuinely trying to make something or just trick people.

VF is known only on /m/, and I'd be surprised if ten people from this board would be willing to pay for his project. Everyone offers support, but that's because moral support is free. Ask people to contribute with effort or money and it's suddenly a whole different thing.

Just keep it on hand as a portfolio project, it could pay off if you run into the right people one day.

That's an impressive looking game that got tons of good reviews before they even put up a kickstarter.

This ties into the 2nd point I made in my post.

I did a lot of research into the whole crowd funding thing at one point, when it became clear I wouldn't have enough money to develop things any further. The results didn't make anyone happy.

It was either we revamp everything visually, change the genre, or turn it into a porn game.

There was a lot of talks about the porn game version of Out Quest. We actually developed quite a few things.

I chose to go against it, though. Personal reasons.

Also wasn't it kickstarted only when the author had a workable trailer? One that looked aesthetically appealing to people enough to crowdfund.

Out Quest's character portraits and intro look very nice but VF's got it right, the actual gameplay needs work before it looks visually impressive enough that people will want to fund it. And while it is possible to work on the game first and kickstart it only later when further progress is made - right now he doesn't have that option.

I suggest putting it on the backburner and possibly returning to it when things get better or if you get a possible funding opportunity. A portfolio project, like >>14853301 said.

Let me drag up the old Red Light Camel Studios folder. That's the alias we would've used to put out porn games.

A quick glance shows me a ton of erotic robot girls.

One of the text files, with way too much words in it, detailing a plan for a game where you're a robot designer who created robot girls for the enjoyment of others. You'd have to create, upgrade, and "personally customize" each of the robots to the customer's request.

"Made to Order Lover" was the prototype title.

The second concept was similar, but had the idea of you being the last male on Earth after the robots killed everyone. The whole idea was that the only way for you to match up to the robots was to have sex with them as a form of bartering.

"Sex Survival Game" was the prototype title.

There's more but I'll save it for later.

Oh yeah, one more thing about crowdfunding.

The most important thing actually isn't having a visually impressive product or big names attached to it.

You know Tiny Metal? It was a spiritual successor to Advance Wars, sorta like Bloodstained or a non-shitty Mighty No 9. It had pretty famous people attached to the project and the demo and other materials released looked very promising.

Its kickstarter failed horribly. It couldn't even reach the lowest goal of 50$k.

Why is that? Because the creators didn't promote their game enough. The most important part of a successful crowdfunding project is promotion. Just talking on /m/ is not enough, you need a huge hype machine so as many people learn about it as possible. This type of hype machine requires people who know what they're doing marketing-wise, a significant investment of time and money.

From what VF said, seems like that money is simply not there. Sorry to say but the most realistic option is to put the project aside for now and wait until the situation gets better.

My dad's in real estate and he builds homes, apartment complexes, and things like that. He buys the land, hires the contractors to develop it, and then puts it up for sale.

The person who robbed him didn't point a gun at my father or anything, but he'd always order extra materials or do sneaky shit to get more money than he had to.

An order receipt would come in stating he bought 100 building materials, but the truth is he only ordered 80.

He just modified the receipt so that it showed 100, the price for 100, and he'd pocket the money.

He did this with nearly every single aspect of the building he was in charge of.

The end result is what was supposed to be a profitable venture ends up bankrupting my father. His health deteriorates as the stress gets to him, he starts having sight, hearing, and memory problems.

It culminated in me using the money I had saved up for a few months to take my father to Thailand, where he could sit with a doctor to help him out. Someone to look over both his physical and mental condition.

I had hoped to use that money to produce something, but my father's health took precedence, but boy was it not fun spending the rest of July and August with under 100 USD in the bank/

It is what it is.

The doctor we sat down with was really nice and did a lot for my father, but the problem is that every day the latest project goes unfinished, my father's stress will remain at its peak.

The doctors warned him, and then told me in private, that if the stress continues as it is he'll basically be slowly and quietly killing himself.

There are just a few things left for the project, some minor aluminum and glass works, kitchen equipment, and that should be it.

If we're lucky we can get the electricity up and running by late November, early December, but we're definitely not going to start making money on this until probably March at the earliest.

There are many potential designs but I really wanted to start with something generic yet feasible as mechs were primarily used in a space/ low gravity setting. The first mock ups designated to either serve construction or exploration purposes. Simple enough for the player to modify or customize or trash to pieces. Basically ready to stripped down for painting and parts swapping before it was cool.
