Has Respawn finally accepted that they're making a mecha game? The story trailer for Titanfall 2 looks /m/ as fuck right now. I just wish the MC was a little more hot-blooded.

>>
That looks slightly less worthless.

But then again, EA still got plenty of time to drop the single-player mode.

Amusing, it it even got that classic cliche of "newbie forcibly enters a mecha cockpit for the first time in the middle of a battle field". I can't even recall if any western mecha game ever did that.

They really seemed to impove the punching-aspect for the mechs.

Of course, billboard and random trash will still be crafted from nothing but the hardest metal known to man, so rolling around in a mech with an autocannon and a rocket mortar and an armour-piercing piledriver will still be pretty damn pointless.
>>
>>14853181

They made improvements over the course of the alphas. That and the confirmation of Attrition and LTS returning give hope. The recent SP focused trailers also seem promising.

They did alot of shit so its harder for pilots to take down Titans by themselves.

my Titanfu has to be Legion.

The problem with TF1 it had fluid infantry gameplay but every titan that wasnt stryder or Atlas was shit the big guys were always at a disadvantage since Stryders got unlimited dashes.

Im moderately interested but im pissed at no PC beta another positive thing to me is that it has a CTF game mode

That was why /m/ hated Titanfall 1. Apparently at some convention panel he explained that he was talking about the Battletech universe, not japanese mecha, but it was still a bitch thing to say to your primary fanbase.
>>
>>14869368
It shamelessly exposes how much of a know nothing you are to act like BT is the only kind of mecha ever.

I mean it'd be one thing if it was a more targeted but good natured snipe at BT specifically but the wording just disregards the body of work that mecha as a genre spans.

All you need to do is say one stupid thing, and the Internet will dog pile on you for it.
>>
>Play some TF in the release month
>Pile on kills as the match starts to be the first in a titan and set the pace
>First titan out each match is usually fucked immediately
>Holding off calling a titan is always a better idea
>titan combat is generally horrible

Nothing heartbreaking, but god damn that game had no nuance to the titular draw.
>>

I miss the first person aspect most of all, and I hate the flashy pink zebra print gun and titan camo bullshit.

For all the problems of the first game it at least had an aesthetic, not this "we COD now xX420BLuNTZXx skins coming soon".
>>
>>14868177
great
>>
Fun fact, you can stat titans almost perfectly as protomechs in Battletech and play titanfall on the tabbletop
>>
>>14869907
Wasn't Titanfall 1's entire popularity due to the fact that it was made by the former members of Infinity Ward, so everyone thought it was going to be CoD with mecha?
>>
>>14874132
I do find a certain irony in the fact that some devs broke off from Medal of Honor ages ago to make COD, then some of those broke off years later to form Respawn...makes me wonder how many "original" members have made the transitions.

Anyways, maybe they thought it was COD with /m/, but now that COD has so much /m/ it hardly seems like a distinction.
>>
>>14874453
I always thought that Titanfall is just a rethreading of the first Call of Duty, but with mechs instead of tanks and with added parkour. Other than that, I think some of Respawn's staff is still there from the time of first CoD, with a more sizeable portion of it coming from the second one.
>>
>>14874453
The real joke kicks in when MoH, in order to distance itself from being a WWII rehash and regain relevance in the military shooter market, ends up parroting Call of Duty's own decision to go modern conflict to distance itself from the WWII rehash and competing with big brother MoH (even if in the lead up to both franchises' jumps to modern times they were kinda in the midst of a bad rut making competition kinda an unimpressive affair.)

Side note: Airborne was a damn good WWII MoH, they should've made a followup to that. I don't care what the time period is, Airborne 2 retaining the nonlinear level design would be fun.
>>
The robots are still fucking hideous.
>>
>>14876557
Airborne and Front line were great. The modern reboot was pathetic trying to grab that MW2 market. Look now how the new COD (which will still sell like 5$ blowjobs) keeps racheting up the modern to near future then distant, and BF, EA's new golden boy post MOH meltdown tried to keep up and be creative with BF4 and Hard-line, now they went way back to WW1. I doubt it will be that amazing a game, I still want BF2143, but I like that rather than copy COD they took another path.
>>
>>14876641
Titanfall did get the "originally built for construction" trope right though. The Stryder in particular really looks like a modified loader.

I also like the "canvas" ammo packs strapped to the frame.
>>
>>14869907
>I miss the first person aspect most of all

When I heard that the titan entering animations are now 3rd person instead of the awesome 1st person animations from 1 I was pissed. You press one button to slide between the mech's legs and it you go coffin-pose so that it can grab you and slam you into the hotseat. It was the dopest shit.
>>
>>14877127
Yeah, the embarks were awesome and the executions appropriately jarring. I hear they plan to patch in 1st person options but I don't buy it.

>>14877610

Pretty much every mecha has these; they're called "joints"
>>
I was super weary about Titanfall 1 and still weary about this one, because if it does inspire more mech games, I feel they're gonna be this weird futuristic steampunk style, and the only thing worse than not having what you want is having what you want done wrong. But hey, maybe we'll get another lost planet or Armored Core out of this
>>
>>14878149
No please, leave Lost Planet dead as it deserves to be.
>>
>>14878133
That's a lie. Joints are covered all the god damned time in mecha shows.
>>
>>14878716
Lost Planet 1 though man! The original! I lie awake thinking about all that god damn wasted potential. I wish more companies would go as balls out ridiculous in their storytelling as Extreme Conditions did
>>
>>14879611
It was crap. The story was utter nonsense, the characters were a bunch of aimless idiots, the bosses were bullet sponges, the whole t-eng mechanic was annoying, punishing you for using robots, and most of the robots weren't simply good to begin with. And it only got worse with each successive title. The only reason LP was relevant in any was because it came out in the early period of the late consoles generation, where it didn't have any meaningful competition.
>>
is the gun handling still literally CoD
>>
>>14879759

Yeah. I absolutely adore the original Atlas design for this reason. And looking at BT here >>14880411
looks like they dialed down the kitbash nature to make it look more purpose-built for combat/drops. Ngl I'd drop some cash on a model of this guy.

I like gundams as much as the next guy, believe me, but what always gets me rock hard is when I get a design that wears elements of actual industrial design on its sleeve like this. It's not so much 'muh realism' as it is just an adoration of mechanical function, you know? Like I know what certain mechanisms look like and it's a weird visual thrill to see them reimagined in fiction. I think that's what attracted me to things like MS-08 and eva. Both of them have a shitload of infrastructure and designs that are crazy but very very recognizable because they're so visually dependent on real-world references.

I've had a lot of uppers today.

see, it's weird, because for me the end result is almost always something I love, but a lot of these concepts are just too fuckin weird/smooth for me. Just way too off the mark and bizarre. Like the ones that are just a silver nude dude with a big brick on his head.

But when it's replaced by stuff with more realistic design cues I love it. I guess just compare these to like everything in the final film for District 9 for what I mean by the good end result versus the kinda over-strange brainstorming.

I was worried about that when I played the beta, but it feels like it's back to titanfall one's speed. I'd say it's pretty different.

It'd be CoD if it weren't for the crazy mobility and speed and the titans. I haven't played any CoDs since like the advanced warfare open beta, and haven't owned any since MW2, so I'm probably the wrong guy to answer, but it's just too goddamn fast and weird and tactical.

Example play:
I kill a pilot by strategically dropping my titan on their wounded one, then put it in guard mode while i rodeo ANOTHER titan, and then grapple from that titan and take the battery I ripped out of it and hop on a friendly titan, plug it in and basically steal health from the enemy titan. And that's like not even touching how Gottagofast the pilot-on-pilot combat is, and for THAT you're almost never running around on the ground like a CoD soldier.

I wish they had a demo active for you or something.
>>
I was on the fence on buying this.
is it worth it? Keep in mind I hate origin and found the first one kinda bad
>>
>>14890231
Basic Cod gunplay, but with more fun guns. The movement is basically Attack on Titan, complete with 3D Maneuver Gear and grappling hook.

Titans move more traditionally, but they each come with four abilities: Ion for example has laser trip mines, a shield that catches and throws back enemy fire, and a shoulder mounted beam cannon, as well as it's "Core", or super weapon, where it fires it's huge fuck-off chest blaster. Anything caught in the path gets melted pretty badly.
>>
>>14890335
The pilots themselves also get abilities, like a sonar knife, thermite shurikens or a phase-teleporter. They work on a recharge timer rather than ammo, so noone is ever shy about using them, always making combat fast and frantic.

>>14890318
What didn't you like? It refines all of the old shit and adds new stuff, so if you really hated the old one to the core you won't like this either.
>>
>>14890347

Also there seems like a lil more variety in mp, what with the bounty game type and stuff.

There wasn't a grappling hook in the first one right?
>>
>>14890359

>>
>>14890347

>>
>>14890368
Oh, I had some of the same issues. It definitely feels tighter, and they cranked up the speed (especially if you take stim packs as your ability. you go Sanic fast)

>>
>>14892932
Titans are much more useful, but they can still be fucked up by a sufficiently skilled pilot. The fact that there are more than 3 types really helps them be more useful and varied.

The multi is only Cod-like if you're on the ground, but doing that will get you stepped on by a Titan or grappled into the sky by another pilot. Wall-running is a constant thing, think skiing from Tribes: it's the fastest form of movement and they tell you to do it constantly.

Origin has a really generous refund policy on most games.
>>
>>14904339
Origin is by far the superior program to Steam. It's 2016 and Steam behaves and performs like something out of 2007, and I'm being generous. There's a reason why their most "advanced" game is Dota 2. CS:GO, for the graphics and complexity, runs like garbage and is still rife with problems a game so simple and matured shouldn't have.

It's really fucking clear that Valve is full of incompetent programmers and architects, they just have excellent businessmen who know how to make money with the littlest effort possible, as opposed to EA's execs who, like gorillas, just throw money at anything they can see and fortunately have some of the most brilliant, actual computer scientists on the planet (DICE's head architects, like Johan Andersson aka repi, who is the original and primary designer of the Mantle specification, which was used as a basis for Vulkan and DX12).

Anyway, Origin as a program is lightweight and I've never had any trouble with it. At the very least it's inoffensive, and sometimes you get free, old games.
