The problem with the movie is that S2 gave everyone a proper ending, and wrapped up all of the loose ends bar one. That one loose end (first contact with another species), and the way it was handled in the movie, threw out all of those endings, and all we got for a conclusion were Old Grandma Marina and Setsuna F Seiayylmao.

S2 didn't give Setsuna a proper ending though. Don't get me wrong, the Ribbons-0 Gundam duality thing worked but it didn't move the character towards a meaningful conclusion like the movie did. Art in seed was pretty at shit at some points. 00 had its lows, but its lows weren't as low. First season of 00 is admirable for trying some new things, and at least their second season wasn't such a blatant direct copy of Zeta as destiny was or the first Seed was of MSG. That said it was sort of neat to see Seed's take on the old formula - sort of a more direct modernization of the original rather than most AUs that look upon it. Destiny really dropped the ball in that regard though with some truly ugly mecha designs
