***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

== ACE PILOT GROUP BUILD ==

Starting September 1st, you have two months to build, customize, and paint a mobile suit of your choice into your own personal design. This can range from just a repainted Zaku to a kitbashed Gundam loaded with any spare rifles and Rocket Launchers you can find. Any suit from any series is fair game, just stick to 1/144 kits and you're good. When you're done feel free to post it in the thread, but also send pics to [email protected] so that all the entries can be judged/posted at once when the group build is over (If you don't want to be judged for the contest just feel free to mention it when you send in your pics).

Prizes include:
>1st Place: Any HG kit under $25 + an Action Base 2
>2nd Place: Any HG kit under $15
>3rd Place: An Action Base 2
(Note: Shipping is to USA and Canada only)

Group build ends on October 31st, lets gunpla!

I asked last thread but nobody responded, does anyone know if the HG Adele is compatible with the HG Full Glansa's equipment? I've been assuming yes because of how similar they are, but I thought it'd be better to make sure.
>>
>>14783707
Depends on what you mean by compatible
You can slap the arms and legs on it no problem because that's a design trend from the AGE series, but I can't tell if the Glansa parts would slip right on over the Adele bits just by the manual.
>>
>>14783716
More or less that, unfortunately, yeah.

OK guys, its that time of the week again. If suddenly gunpla battle was real and you can only use a 144 scale kit you own that is built. Which kit do you take in to the glorious battle
>>
>>14783707
To make an Adele Full Glansa you will basically have to just swap the Adele's head onto the Full Glansa's body. The Glansa shoulder, chest, legs, and backpack parts only really connect to the AGE-1 and the skirts would need swapping anyways. The only thing you could directly connect to the base adele is basically the shield guns and they basically are identical except for the above parts anyways so you might as well just do a head swap.

If you want to keep the adele chest you will either have to give up on the backpack or mod it with a 3mm peg.

Hey /m/. I just got this badboy together and I'm really happy with how it turned out. I'm pretty close to callin it 100% done, but I feel like there's a little bit more that can be done to sorta bring it to that next level. What do you, skilled builders of /m/ suggest?

>>
>>14783964
thank you fellow anon. It was one hell of a frankenstein operation! Used parts from like, 4 goddamn kits, but it was worth it!
>>
>>14783934
I'd say touch up a bit of the lines and what not on the wing binders with black so they don't look so odd.

Other than that, awesome build! It's pretty badass, beetle-bot.
>>
>>14784029
Mm, yeah I was thinking about emphasizing the lines on the wings a bit more, guess I just needed someone else to say it to give me that extra little push. I was considering painting the inner panels in the wings a dark grey, the pipes on it a light silver, and a red-black combo in the recessed "holes" to give them a sort of thruster-type feel. You think it would complicate things too much?
>>
>>14783934
I'd say more details on the guns. Even just breaking it up by using two colours would be good.
>>
>>14784071
yeah now that you mention it, they really could use some detail. I guess I was so focused on making the robot look god that I forgot all about the weapons!
>>
>>14784042
I'd say that's all fine, but I'm iffy on the power lines being silver. I would probably have them red as well, similar to a few suits in Zeta. However, if you go with silver still, it won't look horrible.

I think having the inside frame parts of the wings a dark grey would overall mesh pretty well with the MS's colors. The idea behind the indents being red isn't bad either and might even go good with the silver OR red power lines.

All in all, I say go for it if you're willing to put in that bit of extra work.
>>
>>14784097
ooooh, I hadn't considered red for the powerlines! I was sorta creating a "color code" in that red always represented the inside of a booster, but now... hmmm... now ya got me thinkin. regardless, great advice, man! Thanks!
>>
>>14783882

>>

I'd recommend the Destiny, Red Frame Astray, or Strike.

For AC, I'd go with Wing Gundam Ver. EW instead of the WZC. Both are the same kits, essentially, but you get a little more out of the Wing EW.
>>
>>14785108
Go to those HDB hardware shops or daiso for basic hand tools like diamond files, pin vise, sandpaper, baby vices, etc. Those cost much less than branded tamiya/hobbymate stuff and work just as well.

For more specialized supplies like tamiya masking tape, nippers, photoetch saws, hobby paints, etc go to sunshine plaza, there's two old timer hobby shops. Hobbymate just opened a branch at fortune center just across the street so that makes 3 good hobby shops in one small area.

Hello lads

Currently working on a HG GP02A. Should I buy a HG GP01 and GP03 or just get a green zaku 2.0 next? All three kits are for sale at my local dealer right now.

Not that guy, but what about pla plates and the liquids for cast moulding. I only find the silicone mould thing on Art Friend.
>>
>>14785395
HG01
>>
>>14785397
For casting and kitbash stuff it's pretty much Artfriend or online. Artfriend has plaplates too, look for styrene plastic sheets, do not confuse them with acrylic or pvc sheets. They also carry the full range of stock styrene strips, shapes and sheets by evergreen http://www.evergreenscalemodels.com

Artfriend's materials are mostly cheaper than hobby shops but their tools are the more expensive xacto, olfa, branded stuff
>>
>>14785424
Also i think those RC hobby shops may have those materials too but I haven't really explored them. They are all gathered in the basement of fook hai building
>>
>>14785437
And since we're talking about local stuff, keep a lookout for this Bondite brand of epoxy putty in those hardware shops. It's cheap stuff made in malaysia or Indonesia idk but it has the same consistency and working times as Tamiya 2-part epoxy.
>>
Just finished snapping my GM Quel together. Gonna try to tackle seam welding next. I will also need to look for some EFF decals to replicate the lineart scheme

>>14785473
So is there a difference between the two-part epoxy putty and something like pic related?
>>
>>14785696
Both are 2-part epoxy putty. The plumbing type hardens rapidly and uses coarse grains. The hobby types have finer grain and longer working times so you can take your time to sculpt it, smooth it out with water, etc.

>>14785686
Milliput is not a thing here, can't comment.
>>
>>14785734
Maybe I'm not understanding this properly, but I've got a tube of that stuff here in front of me and what am I supposed to mix it with? Does it just react with air and I gotta be quick, or should I just assume I'm a nitwit for buying something unusable for this hobby and chuck it in my junk drawer?
>>
>>14785761
Oh, so the hardening agent is in the core of the stick. I get it now. Thanks, anon.
>>
>>14785748
For >>14785696 the two components are inside the stick as an inner core+outer layer. They mix when you knead it and become rock solid shortly after. It's packaged as such so that you do not need to proportion the components.
>>
>>14785748
Unfortunately, the putty in pic related is more for repairing things around a house than it is for modeling. It can't be easily smoothed out, potentially can't be sanded, and won't hold detail well.

if it makes you feel uncomfortable then yeah just stick it back in your junk drawer no worries
>>
>>14785872
>exposed to the air
It hardens once the components are mixed out of their layers, no air is required. It's plumbing stuff so it's designed to work underwater.

It's pretty nice. Quite sizeable. I personally like the design; quite 'out there' like a lot of the Titans suits. Fairly simple build with pretty decent colour separation helped by stickers (the orange strips). Quite flexible but some articulation (waist and head) are hindered by design because of the rubber tubings.

Honestly, if you like the way it looks, get it. It's a really good model.

I made pic related. The engineering is very similar to an MG. If your used to gundam, there WILL be a tiny bit of a curve, on some parts you might have to look twice. Also had to do a metric fuckton of hand painting/detailing. ALL of the gun were pretty much the same color plastic. This one also has balance issues, cause its so fucking top heavy. But I think stuff like that would depend on the specific kit. I have heard the metrick fucktons of paint thing, is common among koto kits.

So I just got my BTF Full Saber in the mail, and the first thing I notice is that the manual says HG.

Joints on those GP Bases are plastic-plastic and they don't have screws, so it's incredibly easy to permanently loosen a joint to the point where it don't hold weight. Drill holes with a pin vise and stick a couple of screws in the joints to make them work like regular bases.

Cut the pegs and holes inside the armor and the inner frame (the non-visible parts), use cement to get rid of the seamline on the armor, and then thread the inner frame through the armor.
>>
>>14787999
I don't have the slightest idea how I'm gonna drip the Future to tighten the gap when I thread the armor. I tried it actually on the Barbatos, but thinning the armor pieces leaves visible gaps. Otherwise, that armor fitting is actually gonna rattle with that gap.

Do I drip Future via those precision applicators they use for glue?

I mean they have most of the parts already to make a HGUC. Give it more time.

Probably not. They had a prime opportunity to make a 1/144 with little work by modifying the Byarlant Custom's existing model, but they didn't even do that. We'll probably never get a new model. They even made a P Bandai Exclusive Byarlant Custom from one of the Unicorn Mangas, but no regular Byarlant has materialized. I know, it hurts.

Waist itself barely moves but the legs swing outwards a bit, kind of like MMS (though nearly as much). Has the same problem as MMS did where it looks horrid from below/behind when they swing out though.

But yeah, definitely the best base body so far. The legs are back to balls though, wish they combined the swinging gimmick with the Jinrai/Materia legs.

The upper torso's articulation is particularly good, and I like what they did with the hair too.

So far so good, waterslide application is the most satisfying way to do decals, its zen. Seeing how lovely it looks, did the head, body and shield.

My regret is not buying the normal cement and trying to seal up the large seams in the build. Unfortunately I don't have an airbrush to do painting after seamline application, therefore I will have to suffice with a topcoat or clearcoat afterwards.

Might do clear coat to match the Odaiba Gundam shininess.

Anyone built the Gaplant Hrairoo? I've had one for a couple of months now and I haven't even started it, not sure if I want the model itself or use it for parts in other things. Like using the chest on the barbatos, or the arms, the arms and chest I would love to see on more things

Been planning on this custom for a while, still gotta file a lot of stuff down and paint the damn thing, but I like how it's looking, big stupid boosters attract me for whatever reason.

The Hrairoo in itself is pretty great for an old kit, since it doesn't need to partswap when it transforms. Anything that does that is alright in my book.

Draw a line along an indent and wipe away the excess with your finger/thumb or a Q-tip.
If it's too thick then wipe away more, if it's too thin then don't wipe so hard or use a scriber to make the indent deeper.
Use a slightly darker colour of what you're lining over. Black is fine for blue, but use gray on white, or even a pencil is fine for that, dark brown over yellows or reds, shit like that.
If you fuck up then wipe away and do it again.
It really isn't all that hard.

Yeah I was just watching this. Guess I'll have to pick up some setter and softer. And some nice tweezers.

I'll do it for Hi-Nu. This Christmas

Maybe that's my problem. I'' using black on white just because it was all I had on hand (it's a micron, Gundam official ones are on the way). Suppose I'll hold off for now.

I don't think I've seen that, anyone got an example

Just use a mechanical pencil, man. You can sand down edges of it to give it a fine tip so it can reach into really thin places.

I don't know the black looks more dynamic. Don't wanna be annoying but do you have a full model with brown lining?
>>
>updated hg/mg maxter, rose or bolt gundam never ever
>stuck with the old ass outdated kits
Why does bandai hate g gundam?
>>
>>14797874

No, because I am pretty new to this hobby and I am experimenting with brown panel line too. I am not the guy you originally asked either. I just had an example.

I used brown and black because the black stands out very strongly but the brown is far more realistic and subtle. Like this there are lines and details I want to pop but the brown line definitely adds something. Probably it is best to mix and match colors of panel line like this.

If you compare it to Dalong's you'll see that his panel lining pops more because he uses the black gundam marker while I used the brown.

Let's be honest, it hates anything that isn't the ongoing series, Universal Century, or SEED.
And even then if it's a grunt or plain not a lead Gundam your chances of a model go straight the fuck down the drain in general, too.

i guess i just like black lining more. i wanted to know because im getting ready to do sazabi. thanks for helping me out. also great taste with that zaku my friend.

Gunpla isn't freedom
Gunpla is suffering

But G Gundam has had a manga going for a while. They even gave the shuffle alliance new mobile suits.
>>
>>14798363
Manga popularity doesn't mean suits within will actually get a kit. Unless the series is ongoing or immensely popular, it's especially unlikely that sidestory suits will ever get a kit at all.
>>
>>14798546
It IS ongoing. It's been around for more then half a decade.
>>
>>14798639
So has Crossbone, but the only kits we ever got of those were of the main Gundams.
>>
>>14798639
Is there a place to read this, is it translated? I had no idea there was an ongoing G-Gundam manga. I feel ashamed as a fan.
>>
>>14798657
>so has this other Gundam manga, and all it got was some gunpla models!
Meanwhile Super Class doesn't have shit. Was that supposed to be your argument? Because it doesn't even hold water considering your manga was getting gunpla representation in BF kits and shit.
