I watched Zeta last year with no real input from other people other people other than the timeline chart and I thought it was pretty good. Overall I felt like it's average quality was higher than 0079, but it never had the same highs the original did. I totally think they should have reworked Four and Rosamia, but it was pretty good.
Easily better than ZZ, F91, Stardust memories and Unicorn.

I honestly thought it wasnt that bad. Ive had pretty much 0 interaction with /m until a month or 2 ago and zeta felt really good because it pretty much was 80s cheese with a really dark turn in the last few episodes. I also enjoyed how it focused a lot on Quattro, plus the english dub was actually passable compared to its predecessor.

All you have to do is wait a few months or a year between Zeta and ZZ and the tone change is hardly noticeable. I was surprised that Tomino could make me laugh like that, even most real comedy anime often fall flat with the jokes, but not ZZ. It also had more entertaining weekly fights, what with the Seperating into three Jets gimmick.
Overall Id say Zeta and ZZ are apples and oranges.

I like 0079 better despite being less refined from a visual standpoint. I disliked Zeta's original ending, thought that they repeated some plot points way too much in the mid-to-late portion of the show, and had some other small complaints, mostly to do with the choice of some mechanical designs. I do think the series is a bit overrated.

If you're one of those that tries to make out that it's some SEED-esque piece of shit, though, you're probably either some kind of contrarian loser or a flat out retard with shit taste.

0097/zeta/zz have all aged really poorly. i watched zeta/zz reruns as a toddler and then again 20 years later and it's mostly shit apart from the mech design, the 80s hair, and the music. amuro/kamille are just unlikeable main chars, and zz had so much THIS IS NOT ANIME clowny shit that i no longer remember what the deal was with the glemy turn and haman at the end or what the conflict even was. by comparison, seed/00 have actually aged well (although i guess 00 is really not old at all).

don't even get me started on turn a, which /m/ praises to high heaven but is such a huge drag in the middle 1/2. i wish i never had to recall korin+clowns and annie's cow again, but i really like the beginning of the series and also the last few eps (esp the epilogue).

then there's g reco, which i had high hopes for, but was so bad i couldn't even finish watching it. i just about lost it when bellri's mom pretended to be retarded to launch into space and then they flew to venus or whatever and of course bellri/aida are actually special royalties and then some traitors/pirates turned on them. the whole show got dumber and dumber as my interest got lower and lower. if it's anything like turn a i assume the last few eps ended up being good so maybe someone can fill me in.

tomino gundams. not even once. i haven't even bothered looking at ibo but i hope the next gundam in a few years will be good.
