***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

== SILLY WILLY ACE PILOT GROUP BUILD ==

Starting September 1st, you have two months to build, customize, and paint a mobile suit of your choice into your own personal design. This can range from just a repainted Zaku to a kitbashed Gundam loaded with any spare rifles and Rocket Launchers you can find. Any suit from any series is fair game, just stick to 1/144 kits and you're good. When you're done feel free to post it in the thread, but also send pics to [email protected] so that all the entries can be judged/posted at once when the group build is over (If you don't want to be judged for the contest just feel free to mention it when you send in your pics).

Prizes include:
>1st Place: Any HG kit under $25 + an Action Base 2
>2nd Place: Any HG kit under $15
>3rd Place: An Action Base 2
(Note: Shipping is to USA and Canada only)

Group build ends on October 31st, lets gunpla!

And that is all he is, a retailer.

>>14766863
I advise people to buy from japan direct instead of from UK retailers because its cheaper.
He's threatened to report me to HMRC several times because my packages dont always get customs charges.
He's had admins on facebook groups pull down my sales posts for saying that the prices I sell for are cheapest in the UK.
He went apeshit at me for once suggesting he dodges customs by bringing kits back in his luggage to sell. legal threats were made towards me again.
I offered to make trophys on my laser for the build comp to bury the hatchett.
He basically told me to fuck off and that me and anyone associated with me is banned from the event, look how that worked out.

I'm one of the people who also got blacklisted. This happened purely because I know the person who Japan Cool's owner had a problem with. I was harassed by one of their employees and eventually had to block her (she's a fucking nutcase).
She even told her boss; he originally apologised for her behaviour then also unfriended me after she asked him to.
Or to put it another way: Asshole boss goads mentally unstable employee into giving him a highly dubious reason to block YET another person because of his paranoia over one person.

Is japan:cool the only place to get gunpla in the UK? Is it a popular shop? How much clout does the shop owner actually have in the UK Gunpla Community?
>>
Someone run me down g-con.
All I know is its a gundam con in Eu, and nothing more.
>>
>>14767049
There is Japan cool and gundam mad in the UK, but anyone with half a brain imports because its cheaper.
Its a popular shop amongst young snapfags and the owner commands literally no respect in the UK community. This con solidifies his position as a joke.
>>
They're not the only one, no; there's also Gundam Mad (who are at MCM Glasgow today). There's also a good community of builders who help each other out with orders off TaoBao and the like.
>>
>>14767049
I use it, being able to get shit in a couple of days is great, compare to using Amazon and having to wait 2-3 weeks.
>>
>>14767049
People in the UK can still buy from HLJ and eBay sellers and any other gunpla site. japan:cool is just the Gamestop of UK gunpla. Unreasonable markups but with the added bonus of shitty megalomania-riddled staff.

As for how much clout the guy has, everyone who builds gunpla in the UK will know of japan:cool but it's not like anyone relies on him since there are other options so his clout is probably not all that much

He has some connections with the European side of Tamashii Nations at least. Japan Cool has a weird rivalry going with Gundam Mad, not helped by Anime Ltd (UK Gundam show sellers) partnering with the latter. At comic con this summer all JC kits were priced a penny less than GM a few feet away.

Part of the problem is organizing an actually successful, well-run event that has any chance of being good means you need to know what the fuck you're doing. It takes adults, a lot of them, and professionalism. It also takes a lot of money. Real conventions are run by people who know how to organize an event.

Anime conventions are run by underage autistic morons who book an area of a hotel and then spend the next few months arguing with each other rather than getting anything ready. Then the guests arrive and it's nothing but tables and chairs.

A gundam convention put together by a douche vendor in the UK. He made a ton of promises about it early on and has been working on it for like a year. Stuff like a live orchestra to do gundam soundtracks, big prizes for the contest, tons of vendors and panels, etc.

Over the course of the year he has proven completely incapable of organizing such an event. Vendors and panelists pulled out, he never got the orchestra and the music act he did get pulled out and was replaced by one of the maids doing cover songs or something. He even made the contest page on the website look like it would be part of the gbwc with only a single line saying it would be "like" the gbwc. And as mentioned he also banned a bunch of people who could have helped out or entered some good looking builds.

It's basically the dashcon of the gunpla hobby.

>>
>>14767382
Tumblr tried to throw a convention, but couldn't legally call it "tumblr-con" so the took the tumblr out leaving it as "-con" or "dashcon".

It was an enormous disaster. Barely anything to do, the big draw to the event pulled out and as recompense people were offered "An extra hour in the ball pit". After they suddenly raised thousands in emergancy donations it was rumored to have all been a big money grab by the event throwers but after they posted a bill from the hotel it was proven that they had just been incompetent and needed the money to pay the remainder of the hotel's bill.

you can easily go through 100+ rounds in an hour of casual shooting, its not uncommon to have hundreds and hundreds of not thousands of rounds of commonly used ammo stored up, especially if you can get a good deal on them and save them for the next range trip.

Just got back into Gunpla after a long hiatus - nearly a decade. And back then, all I did was throw on some paint markers and panel lines. Just finished the HGUC Revive Guncannon, and moved onto the Gabethley. I really hated the molded cables, so I'm replacing them with tiny glass beads I got at a craft store. I will never finish this thing.

How do the new HG Gundam Mk IIs and Zakus stack up against the RGs?

>>
>>14768708
RG Mk II is definitely better than the HG. RGs faults lie in their fragility, and the MK II is the best RG in terms of how durable it is. The Zaku II RG is different. Its pretty durable and more detailed but the skirts fall off and some parts of the build are hard to do like the cables.

How about the RG Zeta and Sinanju?

Also, what's the difference between the Origin HGs and the normal HGUC line?
>>
>>14768743
For the Zeta RG, you have to decide wether or not to transform it or not, then NEVER transform it again. It's a hand grenade.

Sazabi needs a bit of force for some parts, as in force that you think you'll break it.

Origin line is better than the HGUC in most cases, and has some unique designs under the "Mobile Suit Discovery" sub-line, like the Dom Prototype.
>>
>>14768743
origin HG's are based on the manga, the origin, which is also an OVA, and they're all pretty good designs, slightly different from the usual HGUC

HGUC GM is a fine kit. It's aging, but it's also like 5 or 6 bux max and looks good in a few different poses. Biggest downfall is it can't crouch. They're perfect for customization or as testbeds for new modelling techniques.

If you want a really nice classic GM kit, MG 2.0 GM is top tier, and if you 100% need it to be 1/144, get GM II, as it's pretty close to original GM and is up to modern standards.

50 people going to an event over the course of 2 days is pretty poor.

>>
>>14770059
well it was always going to be hard since UK doesnt have a large gunpla fanbase from what i see it

what they should have done is joined some other modeling cons (WH40K etc) and get some pros like Richigo & Co displace some work
>>
>>14770093
The problem with your reasoning is that you think the organizers wanted gcon to be anything other than a glorified gunpla stall.
From inception GCon was nothing more than J:C wanting to sell their merch. Notice how unlike other cons, nobody else was invited to sell things. Go to any con and there's rows of artists and suppliers all selling shit, but gcon was literally a single stall set up by the guy who came up with the event, and that's it.
gcon was just J:C opening up a sack for UK gunpla fans to throw their cash into.

I promise you that everyone who attended gcon could have gotten several times more kits had they bought from HLJ instead of wasting money of tickets, travel, accommodation, and then marked-up kits.

You can go to a bar without being an alcoholic rolling around on the floor and fighting with others. You can get a coke or water or snacks too, the point is a bar is a great place to socialize, with or without getting rip-roaring drunk.

Nope, the employees there had to get the prices off their own website.

Reeks of censorship.

Even with the nubs that thing would've looked 80 times better with just a bit of panel lining. Some of the kits you've posted of late look like they almost had an ounce of effort put into them. It's not too late, Snapfit. You can still embrace the true freedom that is gunpla.

Jammed packed. I have very little shelf space to share between my books, movies, games and models. I have to rotate what is on display.

Built the 1/144 HG throne zwei and it disgusts me with how bland it is in color, im a snap shit but I want to paint this thing cause looking at it is killing me.
So my first question is it possible to paint easily once its built cause most guides have people painting the parts first?
Second question is what type of paint wont look like complete shit, any brand recommendations or anything?
And can I mask off parts of it with scotch tape or something while painting so I dont fuck up, cause im retarded

Here's a question for you guys.
Say I wanted to open a store and start selling Gundam kits.
What kits would you guys like to see in that store?
Keep in mind that "normies" who may or may not know what a gundam is may be walking in and purchasing a kit.
And whether or not you have owned, built or oggled that kit is of no concern to me.
Like those kits that you see in a store and think "This place is pretty legit."

Basically I just need a list of good starter kits to get a business rolling.
I have a person who is willing to invest in my business venture so I need to compile a price point to show him to get this going.
I believe in my area that there is a market for kits and it is being hella ignored.

I was thinking at the very least getting a few Revive RX-78's, a few Origin kits, a few IBO kits, stands for HG's, and gundam markers to start off. Possibly getting small all in one tool kits to also keep on hand if someone doesn't have the tools already.
Perhaps starting off with only HG's to keep the initial price low and if anyone asks about MG's, RG's or PG's I can attempt to get them but only on pre-pay order until the business takes off.

Also cross posting to the /toy/ general for maximum amount of advice.
Thoughts?
>>
>>14772749
Don't go overboard on GBF and IBO.

Almost finished building the RG Zeta. I have been doing plamo for years but its my first real transforming one I have done, not a partsformer.

Build, decals and posing it in an action base and Im never touching it again, it doesnt feels so much like a grenade like previous rgs but it feels like im going to broke it at any step. Was just looking to some videos to see if the chest-neck area was ok and seeing people moving it makes me shudder.
>>
>>14772749
Ask yourself a question: Do you want to succeed, or impress autistic hipster snobby worthless cunts on 4chan?

I mean let's be honest, the fact that you're asking such a dumb as fuck question in the first place before embarking on a business venture shows you will fail miserably, but I'd still love to know what your rationale is here. You want to open a store which already sells an incredibly niche product. Then on top of that, you want to refuse to sell what "normies" might like, and only push what hardkore REAL Gundam fans want. (Which doesn't even make any sense, I consider myself a Gundam fan and I can't think of a single series there isn't at least one kit from that I'd like, even if I don't like the show.)

I mean jesus fucking christ, you want to run a gunpla store like a cool vinyl store or something? You want people to think you're "legit"? Well enjoy the totally worthless feeling of the 1 in 10,000 people who appreciate the effort.

Imagine opening a videogame store that only pushed "/v/ approved" games.
Imagine opening a music store only pushing "/mu/ approved" music.
etc
How well do you think they'd do? Terribly, obviously. And yet your plan is to do exactly this, but not with videogames or music or films, but gunpla, something almost nobody even knows about. I just can't imagine what a fucking idiot you must be, and yet you have your head stuck up your own ass.

But by all means go ahead. You sound exactly like those comic-store owners everyone finds arrogant as fuck, who hate all their customers for not buying what THEY like, and gets a reputation for being an all-round cunt.
>>
>>14771756
Because maybe they don't want to talk to you?
But going to the "social area" of the bar is like an unspoken signal that you're there to socialize.

This is seriously not a problem for anyone unless you're one of those pain in the ass autistic bores who can't stand the fact that other people like to drink alcohol.

Mine is pretty damned full, I need a second one because it's full enough that I am completing models and then boxing them because I'd hate for anything unfortunate to happen.
That being said, My only display rule is that if models are next to each other they should interact, I have a good number of groups by now so it only compounds the space problem.
>>
>>14772749
The Victory era 1/144s are pretty good, low price, fairly easy to assemble, and good posability. You should probably pick up some Wing or Seed garbage, since most people who know Gundam at all will recognize those. The newer SDs should also be worth considering, they'll probably be fairly simple to put together. Another idea worth looking into would be renting out nippers and exactoknives, something like 40% or 60% the cost of buying it and they return it after however long.

Then again, look where you are. Is this really the place you should be getting advice from?
>>
>>14772749
Exceptionally good starter kits:
Revive Gundam, Guncannon, and MKII, 007S/G, Amazing Exia, Astraea Type F, Transient, Barbatos Type 6, Astaroth, Gusion, Graze Custom, Graze Ritter, Schwalbe Graze, Grimgerde, Sengoku Astray, Kamiki Burning Gundam, Leopard Da Vinci, Fenice/Rinascita, Mega Shiki, Aile Strike, Impulse, Astray Blue Frame 2nd L, Zaku II Origin, FA Gundam Thunderbolt, Thunderbolt GM, Revive Gyan, Dom Origin

That kind of covers a wide spectrum of suit designs, MS type, and shows even. Keep a stock of GM01s, some Xuron hobby nippers, Xacto blades a few knives too, AB2s, and maybe a handful of petitguy, charastands, and BB Senshi shoutout to the Unicorn boys for being amazing for their size and I would say that's a setup for decent sales.

Food for thought though, how do you figure there's a market for it, and have you even scoped a decent spot for this shop to exist in to capitalize on this market?
>>
>>14772909
Exactly my thoughts. I instantly thought of a little comic shop I know in my city that never sells anything. The manager/owner seems to be the only guy who works there and his dusty overpriced stock sits there while he frowns at anyone who comes in.

You need to find a balance between good stock and pandering to "normies" or you'll just end up a broke miserable retard.

Go with vallejo acrylics if you can, they're the easiest to work with when hand brushing.

Nobody said you had to follow the guide. Use any dark blue. Point is flat black is going to look terrible.
Use your smug anime girls now because you really won't be happy when you see how bad flat black turns out. Pro tip: even canonically black Gundams aren't BLACK, they're always dark blue or dark greys because everyone knows pure black will look like shit and hide absolutely every detail your kit has.

Have fun, though. Stay smug. Nobody actually gives a shit what you do, people are just trying to help you, even though you're a faggot.

Yes. It comes with so many LEDs that it comes with an AC adapter to plug it into the wall because no warch battery is powerfull enough to light up the model when you press the button on the included remote that activates the motorized opening on the panels and cannons for satellite cannon mode.

It comes with none of this. Not even LEDs nor does it have a slot for an LED. A quick google search and or review could have told you this much.

They're for adding details to your kit when you want to do something small that doesn't require a spraybooth and a can/airbrush.

Though the small pen you get with them is a mystery. Nobody anywhere has any idea what it's for. And never will.
