Route choices in 4 are bullshit. For pretty much every split in the game, there's a right choice which has all the secrets and the good part drops, and a wrong choice which has bupkis.

And that extends to the Real/Super choice at the start of the game the right choice is Real.

And it's not just because the game is old; SRW3 is the first game in the series with any branching and it's fairly well-balanced with cool stuff on each branch.

I passed this up earlier but let me at least give my own two cents on this.

I feel like a lot of the new series put into here feel very..haphazardly done so. The second world is fine, since that gives an excuse to throw in new series and not interfere with what's already established but a few of the new ones in the original world feel like they clash with what they're already given. Revengance, as much as I love that game, is probably the biggest offender, because it means that massive show of Ray vs Rex happened just a few years before J started proper and no one felt like mentioning that until now. If you were just gonna completely rewrite canon, good on you, infact that's probably the best way to approach a plot like this, but it's just something to consider, especially since that's a lot more work.

Also would ENIS be essentially the game's OG? Or would it count as a separate series?

Yeah, Revengeance can be dropped. I would say that the events not being discussed could be due to INFORMATION CONTROL, but it isn't all that important to the main story, i just wanted a series to round out the Present World.

Future World is essentially a place for all the "post apocalypse/world reset" series to go, which makes me think now that Gargantia would also be a good fit (it even has time travel!), and it ties in to the OG villains of the plot: the aliens that the Fury were fighting before they fucked off to earth, who manipulate time to some extent and maybe eat History, as far as I've thought of it.

And for the sake of clarity, I threw in Project ENIS as a separate series because I thought it would be funny. It's been years since I looked it up so I don't even remember what its deal is.

Learning for backrow pilots, Break Morale Limit, Hit and Away for pilots that need it, Prevail for pilots that need it, Focused (SP costs 80%), Maximum Break in OGMD for someone you want to start MBs with a lot, SP Up, in roughly that order. I had avoided all spoilers, and so when the boss started laying me out with its map attack that blocks SP then I'm getting wasted. I had known that if a Lamalice is in range it won't use the map, however when the final boss spawned there were only 2 Ida class left, and neither would move. Do I need to knock them into Cana or regular for them to move into the area? How do I do this?

well Raideen doesn't really have a decent translation available, I hate Dangard Ace's design, and as for the other two Chodenji series, well just didn't have room for all of them(as it's an already crowded and probably too large list as it is) and I like Combattler the best of them

as for Gaiking LODM and Macross DYRL, I consider series and movies in the same franchise as ones that meet my criteria to be valid choices as well(which is why Yamato/Star Blazers is represented by 2199)

The game's combat is built around keeping the enemies in the air. It takes a while, but you'll eventually learn to juggle.

Different enemies have different "weight" to them, it won't instantly be evident but you'll realize soon enough the difference. Different attacks carry better, find what works for you.

Always stock up on consumables, especially anything that boosts up your SP and action points (I forget what they're called). They're more beneficial to in this game than anywhere else and can really make boss fights less difficult/frustrating.

Try to upgrade weapons and armor frequently to make life easier, but unless you're taking an extreme beating then don't worry about grinding too much. If you can buy it, great, but if not you can usually move on and survive.

I beat the game with a certain team, but you can honestly use anyone. The game's balanced well enough but it's really all about finding what you can play around with and who you want to play around with.

EF is a cool game in general, though. When you unlock more characters and attacks, you'll end up enjoying the variety the game throws your way.

Also you're gonna love the bosses, their designs, and their themes. Their fights can be really cool.

Outside of a few guys, the rest of the guys in this thread don't actually play anything and wait for me to burn through a game so they can act knowledgeable about it.

The fate of being the best person to SRW in all known history, I'm afraid.

So...barrier pierce is not the determinant of who gets an endgame team spot anymore, then. I think Ganeden or whatever it's supposed to actually be called (Guneden? Gunedan?) had a damage-halving barrier. Also, in 2nd/MD, you have access to anywhere from 30 to 40 full powered Valored finishers. Not using half a dozen people without barrier pierce won't make the boss impossible. Hell, you'll have so many actions the boss will die before you get halfway down the list.

In the only concept for a SRW I had, and it wasn't entirely too fleshed out, I actually didn't have an original villain faction, per se. I toyed with the idea of having a few people milling about on their own primarily during space-based battles and observing how so much was happening around Earth at the same time.

They would have been pretty powerful tech-wise, leagues above what Earth was generally capable of (it was a low-tech Earth idea anyway), and imply they're from a very distant planet and watching the rapid progress earth was making was cause for interest.

I have the rosters OG1, OG2, J, W, Z2.1, Z2.2 and Alpha 1 ready to randomise for people who want to do challenge runs of these games.

Rules:
- You may pick whatever route and route splits you want.
- If you roll a secret unit, you may use whatever units/pilots are nessecary to obtain it, but only to unlock it. If you roll mutually exclusive secrets, pick one.
- All auto-deployed or select-from-a-list-of-battleships battleships can be used freely. Selectable-like-a-unit Battleships have to be rolled.
- Non-rolled units cannot be voluntarily deployed or upgraded. Whenever an non-rolled unit is force deployed they must retreat into a battleship. If that is not possible they are free to use until they can retreat to a battleship. If a battleship is available and every unit is able to be dropped into it and you don't have any rolled units available, you have to use the battleship alone. If the mission is legit impossible without units other than the battleship, then you can relax this requirement. Still no upgrading though.
- If you roll a combination mech the component pieces can be freely deployed but only used to combine. If you roll the individual components of a combiner they can not be combined unless you also rolled the combined form.
- Pilot switching is allowed.
- If a unit is listed without a frame, you can use all its frames as you like. If a specific frame is specified, you have to use the frames you rolled. If the frame isn't unlocked yet, you can use the Base Form until you get it, but only if there's no other way to deploy a locked pilot.
- Guest units, any you don't ever find on an intermission screen, are fine to use as you like

I had to fail 2 skill points to get the normal ending, and even had time to spare to grind a stage like 12 times, while still being around 120 turns below the time limit by the last stage.

Yes. The anime used it as a weapon at one point and it was used in L as a weapon thanks to that, but in the manga it never was.

What it WAS used as was a defensive tool at one point (it forms over the front parts of Deceive to protect the cockpit from a continual assault), and that's how it is in UX - whenever Deceive is hit, its hit animation has it throw the hand up in front of it as protection.

You have to choose poorly to fight him anyway. In end you have choice of fighting the big bad or Shuu, and fighting Shuu bums everyone out ( -> down to 50 will ). Shuu then transforms Granzon to Neo Granzon, oneshots the big bad, calls 5 lv99 valsiones and sends his buttbuddies after you. He doesn't move until about everyone else is dead. At 1/3 hp he casts Guts. At least all the enemies are worth shit-ton of exp, so people level up stupidly fast.

It's not hard to see. Deceive gets dogpiled HARD in UX because of its range and HP, and it's not the dodgiest thing around. Plus, it never really has a good counter move - Nerve Crack is weak as shit and the Arma Control thing costs a bit too much EN to be a spam move (and is 1-2 anyway).

UX and L have the exact same AI with the exact same amount of tunnel vision for high-HP units. Same as K and BX. W's the black sheep in the whole thing if only because it has a bit higher obsession with number of targets than anything else.

NERF CRACK is pretty much your personal god in the early game and honestly never really goes bad - I mean, yeah, Pretender gets it too and is a much better body for the ability, but you get Pretender like five stages from the end, so whatever - but offensively Nerve Crack the attack is basically Vulcan tier with a single range more. It later gets another attack that's only 1-2 but is actually not that bad... it just costs 20 EN on a mech with 170 base that is always flying. It becomes pretty good at close in action.

But of course it gets heavily outclassed later in the game. If you use it as a lure (because every fucking enemy that gets a whiff of Deceive in the area will obsess over it) it'll be good at that because of really damn good HP, passable armor, HP Regen, Machina Regen, and having 2 pilots, but even then it only has 5 movement so you'll have to have someone cart it around.

...but if you need EN Regen it can help because it's a Resupplier. I had it paired with the similarly range-impaired Dunbine on the later stages so Dunbine could combospam bosses (since fucking Decieve isn't getting much boss damage done) and it worked pretty well.


If I had to rate the Machina and Armas in terms of use I'd go with something like:

All the units who are below Deceive either come really late, have LESS POWER THAN DECEIVE, or have some horrible fatal flaw that stops them from being good until you do something specific for them. Because I can't think of anything that has recently had all of those together. Glitter Falsaber and Odyssey both lack the rocket punch (and their range is off), Rushbird and Straybird didn't have a sword or a rocket punch, none of the Z mechs had all of those (unless like the close range Librasta did)...

There is still a trick to beat it without the atomic bazooka.

In MD, the Granteed shoots off its fist during Finger Cleave. Orgone Slaybe is a giant laser, and when he becomes Dracodeus he goes full out Obari with a sword finisher. Now that I think about it, OG does have a lot of sword finishers.

Yeah, but at 0 upgrades it's 4300 + partner bonuses. At 5 upgrades, which is all you'll have on your first game, it's 4900 + partner bonuses. This is a 1 range move and takes 20 EN of your 170 at 5 upgrades EN to use. You have EN Regen 1, but that will take two turns to give you a second finisher. You get him on Stage 45.

At 0 upgrades Decieve's finisher is 4300. At 5 it's 4800 due to an inferior upgrade tier. Decieve does get S Sky, but that's not so impressive when most everyone can after Stage 38 - Decieve can do it before then though. It is available on like Stage 10, and gets that attack on Stage 19.

Yes, after eight run when you've maxed everyone out Jack Smith will be a far better unit then Deceive is for the seven stages you have him over the thirty five or so stages you'll have Deceive and not him, but that's a dumb position to argue.
