Post Underrated Super robots, whether it's the show or mech.
I'll start.
Gear fighter Dendoh was a pretty cool show, and Knight gear Ogre is one of my favorite rival mechs.
>>14761929
It's the reconstructed corpse of Gaogaigar Project Z, of fucking course it's going to be underrated. You can't tease that shit, cancel it and recycle it into something perfectly good in and of itself and NOT expect people to hate it because they're still bitter.
Is that from Betterman or something?
>>14761929
Is this subbed correctly? Last time I heard, it had crabsticks.
Z-Mind. 9/10 robot, 5/10 show
We are literally the only board Ive ever seen who knows Gakusaver.
and that's sad.
>>14762692
Yeah look at Ex Troopers. Perfectly good game, very well made, but people are angry at it because it uses the engine that was made for MML3.
>>14762802
Im angry because translation never. Mega Man fags are the worst kind of crybaby, you should never take what they say with anything resembling seriousness
>>14761929
I love Iczer-2, but Delos Theta has much more style compared to her own robo.
>>14762809
>Im angry because translation never.
Well that's different, Capcom was just being lazy and didn't think it would sell.
>>14762692
Uh...Dendoh was actually built from the corpse of Baan Gaan, the yuusha game-only work that didn't get an anime waaay back in 1997. GaoGaiGar took over for Baan Gaan for 97-98, and Dendoh didn't show up until 2000.
Where you got the corpse of Project Z idea from I will never know, considering Project Z wasn't even a thing until GGG Final Grand Glorious Gathering.in 2005.
I know we're at least double digits. Not high double digits but I know my boys are out there
>>14762743
Yeah it's subbed properly.
Z mind was a cool muteki robot that was made in the 90s, but I like the show too.
The show isn't subbed.
But I absolutely love the design of daioja.
Hexamoon Guardians must be underrated since no one ever has fucking played it enough to rate it.
>>14762743
Z-Mind has proper subs, yeah.
>>14762862
Considering that if Baan Gaan was supposed to be in GGG's place, it was going to get passed over two fucking times in terms of Braves since the one after Gaogaigar was going to be Photogrizer (which has never been in anything afterwards), I feel that the idea of making it into an actual anime must have hit some serious issues.
>>14761929
>Gear fighter Dendoh was a pretty cool show, and Knight gear Ogre is one of my favorite rival mechs.
Dendoh was at it's best when Hokuto was piloting Ogre.
In general, I don't think Dendoh was as good a show as it might have been, but Hokuto pallin' around with the villains was good shit.
>>14764300
>In general, I don't think Dendoh was as good a show as it might have been
Dendoh was great until Chinese Exkaiser showed up, then it all goes to shit.
>>14762788
NINA SHURIKEN
>>14762837
>>14762802
>>14762809
Worst part is, the big stylish word graphics apparently would have caused problems for the localization, yet they handled that just fine for Phoenix Wright in MvC3.
>>14764325
Really? I thought the fights against Zero were amazing, especially since most of it is martial arts of some kind
>>14763237
The OP is amazingly catchy, too.
Best Not Gundam out there.
Also probably the saddest mech show I've seen.
>>14764204
what's hexamoon guardians?
>>14764405
An obscure PSX strategy RPG with waifu-picking.
>>14764411
>obscure
>with waifu-picking
Well that explains mattman's interest.
>>14764325
It was enjoyable, but I don't know if I'd call it great.
The attack on the moon was great, and the next arc (up until about when they head to space) was mostly good but occationally great. But outside of that it mostly passable.
The series just has too many weaknesses for me to really consider it great on the whole. The side characters are basically not important. Ginga, who is supposedly one of the protagonists, becomes increasingly less important as the series goes on, until he's reduced to just being a thing that makes Dendoh work.
The mecha action is typically solid for that era, but it really isn't enough to elevate the subpar character drama and dull story. The downside to the Hokuto chillin' with the aliens arc being so good as it just further highlights how everything else in the storyline is just so uninteresting.
>>14764403
I'm still waiting for episode 6 to be subbed!
>>14764419
I think it was pretty good, but it didn't need to go on for 38 episodes long. cause after that point it's filler and the animation takes a nosedive in quality.
>>14761929
>Underrated Super robots
I honestly consider DM Gaiking to be the best (and certainly the most underrated) super robot show of it's decade.
Likewise, Raiking and Vulking are both very underrated super robots--Vulking especially. The poor bastard went from a terrifying threat in it's introduction episode to "the other robot what is standing in the background" from then on.
>>14764325
>>14764380
It's more the non-combat plot went to shit, what with the HokutoxSubaru Shounen-Ai nudging.
And guess what: we all praised kobayashi for her storywork, which ended with the destruction of the spiral city moon base. Guess who took over for part 2? MOROSAWA.
>>14762964
The Argent was pretty cool, I loved how it pulled a unicorn and went white
Most people mention it in SRW.
But I love Dancouga Nova Max God.
It's a shame it didn't do a lot in the show but it left a big impression on me.
I also dig the show itself a lot too,and that's coming from a fan of the original. My only issue is that it was a tad short.
>>14762964
Source?
>>14764558
I thought she only did a few episodes here and there?
But yeah, the series's quality went down a bit after Spiral Castle fell, but got a bit up there during the ending.
>>14764466
Yeah, what the fuck was up with using that animation that Gundam SEED ended up using?
>>14764612
The last fight on the moon was one of my favorites of all time. In a way I think sometimes it's better for a show to be short and to the point rather than drag on. Im a fan of the original too but it had some pacing issues.
>>14764665
>>14764558
>And guess what: we all praised kobayashi for her storywork, which ended with the destruction of the spiral city moon base.
The spiral city moon base was cool as fuck, but the story was basic shonen mecha faff.
>>14764612
>>14764689
Say, would you recommend Dancougar Nova, to someone who didn't hate the original but found it to be kinda of boring?
>>14764755
Yeah. It's got a more even pace because it's only 12 episodes so it's a lot more digestible
>>14764762
Are there any recap episodes? Because the thing that bothered me the most about it was that it in a anime of 38 episodes 4 of them were recaps.
Even fucking Requiem for the Victims is mostly recap. Was their budget that really fucking low?
>>14764775
>Are there any recap episodes?
No
>>14764775
Requiem was made as the true ending to the series, cause the show was canned.
>>14764689
I love that final fight so much, it's probably one of my favs too
Yeah I guess you can say it's better that it's short, but I think it could have used the God bless dancouga treatment.
I will agree Nova is better, paced since the orignal had a filler gap and the budget went to shit at one point.
>>14764815
>the show was canned
Ah, that explains it. I guess it ended up being popular enough to get us God Bless Dancougar and Blazing Epilogue.
>>14764832
yeah it happened to baldios too and maaybe Goshogun.
God bless is pretty great and easily the best dancouga thing imo.
>>14764837
>Goshogun
I never knew Goshogun was cancelled, didn't it have a fairly conclusive ending followed by a far-off movie epilogue?
>>14765109
Cancelled doesn't always mean "On the spot" gundam X got shit canned too and they had time to rework a conclunsion
This show was fun.
>>14764837
>yeah it happened to baldios too and maaybe Goshogun.
Nah, Goshogun ended pretty satisfactory from what I've heard.
The OVA followup takes place like forty years later and doesn't even feature the robot--it absolutely it's own thing, and not meant as a conclusion to the series.
>>14766115
Oh, and speaking of underrated super robot shows and mecha: Goshogun
>>14766099
Holly was 8 kinds of got dayum
>>14766117
Goshogun has a truly awesome design.
>>14766117
It's really fun if only someone would subbed it.
Kakuseijin from betterman was pretty cool, I think it counts as a super.
For some reason, I never see anyone post this glorious attack spell
>>14766209
>Holly
Look at this faggot and laugh.
>>14767440
Convinced to watch this show just for Joey.
>>14767440
Why not both?
Gonna play devil's advocate for a bit.
>>14762837
>Capcom was just being lazy and didn't think it would sell.
Well the problem is that the game flopped hard as all fuck in Japan. So from a business point, if you lose a lot of money on a game, suits aren't going to think localizing it will make things all better because then you have to spend a lot more money on it while fearing that it flops there too.
It'd basically be gambling, losing money, and then signing up for a chance to lose even more money that can hit the millions out the gate
>>14764368
Also, you can't really compare Phoenix's Word Graphics to EX Troopers'. Nick only had a few so that wasn't an issue. EX Troopers has most of its dialogue like that.
>>14764403
>you will never see BaldÃos subbed fully
Thanks, Jesus you died for nothing.
>>14767393
this is from one of the 3d srw games right?
>>14767733
Never say never. Ten years ago basically no classic super robot shows were subbed, whereas today I haven't found time to watch any of Daltanius yet because I'm still working through Braigar.
On the subject of shows that were partly subbed before the group vanished into the ether, Danguard Ace!
I remember being astonished while watching the episodes that had been subbed how much Gunbuster borrowed from the show. They have several plot beats in common, from a main character who's Dad disappeared in a space, to a character who is just Coach, and more besides.
>>14767839
The show does commit the Super Robot Cardinal Sin of having an absolutely terrible theme song, though.
God Reideen is underrated as hell.
it's easily the best looking out of the raideens, since it's the orignal but braved the hell up.
>>14767880
isn't that from the hella gay one
>>14767729
The game only flopped when it was ported to console though, it sold well enough on the 3DS
>>14767880
God Reideen's design is, indeeded, baller as fuck.
I haven't make any real effort to see the series, because I was under the impression that it really isn't a mecha show, and that God Reideen itself isn't too prominent in it. Was I mistaken?
>>14762964
We are always here, silently watching
>>14764403
I remember watching this on tvin the 80s
>>14767904
It is mostly sentai but it was really well done. The homosexuality isn't as prominent as rumored which means it is less funny as a result, but the art is fantastic. If you liked Tekkaman Blade you will probably like this.
Neo Getter was pretty rad, Good mix of Getter robo G and Go imo.
>>14768333
Do any of the toei getter anime do a good job of adapting the manga?
>>14768361
the getter tvs are fun enough dumb robot cartoons of their respective days but don't really do much to bring the comics to the screen
Can't be the only one who likes Trider G7
>>14764688
As main script for those eps, yes, but if you notice, kobayashi had literally no credit for work after the episode post-moon base.
Morosawa had overall control so one can see what the issue there is.
Not sure if this is underrated or not, but god damn do I love this robot. Not sure if the show is worth watching, but all of the fight scenes I've seen are fantastic.
>>14769500
Its an ok show. The best part is the fight evey episode where they shit the budget for those 4 minutes wach episode
>>14769500
>but all of the fight scenes I've seen are fantastic.
I quite vehemently disagree. Oh they where certainly beautifully animated by Tauburn is the worst kind of over powered. It just wears really thin when the hero has no chance of losing. there's no sense of peril.
but not by
>>14769500
It's the show Scott Evil would absolutely hate.
The main character finds and infiltrates the bad guy's base of operations in the first episode and then completely forgets about it and despite living pretty much right next door to him almost none of the bad guys are actually trying to kill him despite having shit like pet alligators and supernatural abilities at their disposal.
>>14769533
It's like they took the joke out of that cartoon where the coyote and sheepdog are just working the clock
hell when the break the maiden seals they even just let the girls go on their way with a packed lunch. There's zero tension to anything
>>14767739
Do those look like SD proportions to you? It's from Xenosaga 1
>>14769685
It has a braves robot in it?
>>14770230
The entire series does. There are multiple Erde Kaisers in 2 and 3, although I haven't played those and couldn't tell you what they're like
The one from the first game does 9999 damage to everything onscreen and there are only two bosses that go over that amount
Anyway, it's based on G Elements from Xenogears, which seemed to have a robot for every possible mecha reference it could make, pic related
>>14762862
>Where you got the corpse of Project Z idea from I will never know, considering Project Z wasn't even a thing until GGG Final Grand Glorious Gathering.in 2005.
Probably from TV Tropes, as someone posted that BS about Dendoh being based on Project Z there some time ago (check Dendoh's and GGG's Trivia pages). DESU it sounded convincing until I checked the dates.
Also, Project Z might have been a thing earlier than 2005, since according to Goshou's now defunct GGG site, sometime around the time last episode of FINAL OVA was released (early 2003) Yonetani said in a Newtype interview that there are three more stories to be told... seems he already wanted to continue the series at that point. Still it was long after Dendoh ended.
>>14770793
>three more stories to be told
That sounds all too familiar.
>>14767904
>and that God Reideen itself isn't too prominent
It's hyped up as this amazing invincible power that everyone wants and the villains are trying to unseal so they can yank its power. They manage it eventually. It lasts in their hands for less than an episode before it breaks free from their control, kills their boss, goes to the Hell they came from, and kills EVERYTHING IN IT.
The final arc has the thing as the big bad.
>>14769533
>and despite living pretty much right next door to him almost none of the bad guys are actually trying to kill him despite having shit like pet alligators and supernatural abilities at their disposal.
A couple of times they actually do attempt to use supernatural powers to take him out of the game. It never works. There's two legit attempts to murder him, the first eight or so episodes in and the second like 3/4 through the show, and both fail miserably. The first failed because Sugata basically fucks her shit up, the second fails because the upcoming fight had a different villain go "NO FUCK YOU" and go after him because she's a fucking psychopath and her bitch of a girlfriend would die if Zero Time broke while her mech wasn't a thing.
The given reason (which was mentioned like once) is that no one wants to actually break the seals while Sugata is against them because Samekh would win against all of them at once, and because they don't actually know where the second and third maiden are and they're under the impression that breaking the third seal will seal them in Zero Time until the fourth is broken. Which is a load of hooey as it turns out but then all of the villains were being manipulated anyway.
>>14770861
The final battle it had was pretty rad
>>14761929
How was Dendoh underrated? It's boring as baked beans and there's nothing it does particularly well or in an interesting way. They even ruined best mom by making her hot blonde hair a wig at the end.
