Look at all the sequels in Hollywood in the past 10 years, especially to old 80s franchises.

It will.
>>
>>14746510
Can someone just blow up Hollywood already? Why should the West have any affect on the East? Especially Hollywood. The demographics are completely different.
>>
>>14746506
Because whenever an anime studio tries to do something new it flops.
>>
>>14746515
That's not how it works. It's less "Hey, Hollywood is making all these sequels and reboots, let's do that too!" and more that the market conditions that's motivating Hollywood to make all those sequels and reboots are also present in Japan.

These things just go in cycles, there was something similar going on in the early eighties.
>>
Daicon V when?

As long as it's as good as Gun and Die, then I'll watch it.

>>14746515
>Why should the West have any affect on the East? Especially Hollywood. The demographics are completely different.

The thing they have in common is middle aged men who loved 80s franchises as kids will see new installments of those franchises. You can't deny Gundam does this, especially with their toys and models
>>
>>14746568
But that's assuming these middle-aged men have no standards and want to see their childhood mercilessly butchered.

don't get the intense hate it brings, other than the fact that it's pretty much the literal opposite of an 80s anime in look and tone
its cardinal sin is being merely average, with some minor high points

Gunbuster has appalling pacing problems (after moving kind of slowly for four episodes, the last two accelerate like crazy), but it's fucking brilliant.

Gunbuster made me cry.

Diebuster made me cry more.

Like when Noriko put a leotard on to pilot? Or practised by doing laps and tyre jumps in a giant robot? Or that time there were physic dolphins piloting a ship? Or when Noriko ripped her leotard open to rip open Gunbuster's chest?

Both Gunbuster and Diebuster are just the staff cutting loose and throwing whatever they think is cool/fun at the drawing board and seeing what sticks. Both ate retarded. You just enjoy one more than the other because the things it threw are more subjectively good to you. Putting on a leotard isn't any less stupid than putting on a school uniform.

>>
Gunbuster was often only enjoyable if you ignored the writing. Everything else was good and I do think it deserves to be called a good OVA, but defending the overall story and character development is pretty hard (yes I know fans still try and claim it's perfect). I think trying to be both a parody and a serious work harmed it significantly (I'm not making this up, Toshio Okada talked about it) because the dumb shit was probably glanced over because "parody" but then it affected the impact of the serious moments since what led to it was so dumb.

Some of the retarded shit carried over to Diebuster, but I feel Enokido downplayed it enough for it to not be as big of a problem.

>>
>>14749067
it says that it will conect gunbuster and diebuster, so i doubt we will see your last point
maybe it's about a christmas cake jung training a pair of newbies so they can pilot a new version of gunbuster (maybe a mix of buster machine 19 and buster machine 1+2) to protect earth to a new wave of space kaijus that appeared out of nowherewith each episode we see jung dissapearing and doing somethingfinale show us that she was building the "w3lcome back" towers and shows that the menace dissapeared and millena of peace happened until diebuster happened and later the ending of gunbuster

the sad part will be seeing the new pilots and jung grow older and dying without the chance of seeing norkio and kasumi back

twist shows that nana was built from the memories of them and jung, just to fuck diebuster

Uh Anon, not to rain on your parade, but apparently between Gun and Die, the Terran Imperial Space Fleet came up against something not even reality bending Buster Machines could hope to fight, hence why humanity is cloistered up in the Sol System come Diebuster....

I do agree with Jung leaving a message within and maybe even having Nono base on herself though.
>>
>>14750708
>Prison School the most sakuga animu recently.

Outed as blind and not knowing what you're talking about.
>>
>>14746439
I actually just recently watched Gunbuster after having watched Diebuster several years earlier for some reason and...

Is it just me, or does Noriko get the rawest fucking deal in that series? She basically watches everyone she knows or cares about grow old and die while she sits around in space not getting to live a fucking life. Even her Onee-sama got to fuck Coachee for a couple decades before he finally dies of space-cancer.

The moral of Gunbuster seems to have largely been "Special relatively will fuck your life up," while Diebuster is more "Just throw some tits and explosions everywhere. Eh." Which is hilarious, since Diebuster's fanservice actually pales in comparison to Diebuster's 80s lewd.
>>
>>14751909
Diebuster rape scene felt cheap and like an 80's B movie attempt at edge to me, which totally didn't fit with the colors and brightness of that show

otherwise yes, the martyryest martyr is noriko, and lal'c only wants to be her friend to honor the memory of 7, who actually wanted to be norik's friend but couldn't for obvious reasons

Just don't watch it expecting Gunbuster.
Noriko isn't in it...technically

It does have the same attention to details.... but psychologically rather than technologically, and it reverse the thematic of the Gunbuster.

It's as throughout... but in a totally different style which can be considered a downgrade for relatively good reason.
Myself I liked it but I still wish for a new story someday akin to Gunbuster.
>>

>>
>>14746439
I actually think this might be received better than Diebuster. Diebuster was too much of a director's pet project, rather than just focusing on Gunbuster nostalgia. This new show likely will go much more directly after Gunbuster nostalgia. As long as it at least has decent animation, I think it'll be far less controversial than Diebuster.
>>
>>14758528
Very good point.
>>
>>14758528
The problem with Diebuster wasn't with not being like Gunbuster (although that didn't help). The problem was poor direction. It was tonally all over the place and the characters and conflict didn't have much in the way of emotional tension or buildup, so all the spectacular action scenes fell almost completely flat

That's why I actually think Gunbuster's pacing actually works. It uses that low key first half to really build on the character drama and raise the stakes so the second half all feels like delicious payoff. The transition between the two halves certainly isn't smooth, but the use of airtime just seems far more efficient than Diebuster to me.

Anyway, what worries me about the new one is that it'll be a product of its time like the other two were. And in the 2010s, being a product of the times more or less means being a trainwreck
>>
If this really is meant to bridge the gap, what do you guys think it will contribute story and lore-wise? Things like how Nono was built and whether Jung had anything to do with her design, the buster corp, what No.4, 5 and 6 were, how the old technology was forgotten, etc.
