Starting September 1st, you have two months to build, customize, and paint a mobile suit of your choice into your own personal design. This can range from just a repainted Zaku to a kitbashed Gundam loaded with any spare rifles and Rocket Launchers you can find. Any suit from any series is fair game, just stick to 1/144 kits and you're good. When you're done feel free to post it in the thread, but also send pics to [email protected] so that all the entries can be judged/posted at once when the group build is over (If you don't want to be judged for the contest just feel free to mention it when you send in your pics).

Finished my first MG. Looks awesome and the build was pretty simple.

I had some problems with posing due to some loose joints. Those hands are pretty annoying too, I'd rather take normal gripping hands.

My cousin is going to japan for a couple weeks in october and will buy stuff for me what should I get?

So far I've got on my list the GFT MG RX78-2 3.0, GFT HG Unicorn 1&2 Strikes Odaiba combo, and the GFT HG Phenex Gold and Silver plated combo.

Phenex MG doesn't seem worth it to top coat over that plating for all those water slides and I've heard the kit in general is just a nightmare and since I've never build an MG yet i think I'll skip it. Anything non-GFT that's significantly easier to get or cheaper over there? I'd like to keep my budget no more than $300USD whatever that will be in yen at that time and all that stuff is about 2/3 of that.

Try putting electrical tape over the joint piece and then slide on the female part so that the tape is pushed onto the joint.

The mech's name is Wildwurger from Super Robot Wars. Kotobukiya made three kits of it, a 1/144 scale, a limited edition red 1/144 scale and a 1/100.

Both red and 1/100 are easily over $100 but the vanilla 1/144 scale kit is around $40.

If you want one that looks the great OOB might I suggest the RG?
It comes in both the standard and Char's though it lacks the long beam rifle included with the Origin.
Looks good with just the decals and minor panel lining.
I know people rag on RGs for being hand grenades but I have little to no problems with mine except for the RX-78..
As for poseability, shit's pretty great as with most RGs.

Yes, the MG Gouf Custom is quite old and has issues holding up its shield gatling.

The HGUC fixed that issue by changing the shoulder joint's construction.

In the short run it's cheaper,. in the long run it's more expensive. Airbrushing also offers you a lot more control while with cans you're stuck with what's in the can. With cans you can basically expect to get 1, maybe 1.5 kits of use out of one can, and at 10+ dollars a can it adds up. There are also different brands. Tamiya/Mr. Hobby are good. Something like Krylon will fuck your shit up.

Might as well just buy a couple cans to check it out and not sink too much dough into it at first and then afterwards if you feel like you can handle it you can go full airbrush.

So I'm building pic related for my friend, but I want to paint it metallic blue because he got the green one but wanted the blue one. I've heard that using a black primer really brings out metallic paint and he bought some tamiya brand metallic blue. Anything else that I need to know for this?

Forgive the low quality photo. Camera in my phone broke so this is off m old work phone.

GF got me this Astraroth HG from a local con. Bonded some parts and hid some seams, mainly on the waist binders. Changed the color scheme to some dark grey, orange and purple. Weathered up with some brown and grey post shading and added some rust pastel and silver drybrushing.

Did the whole kit in 1 night. Haven't painted a kit in ages, felt good to pick the hobby back up in earnest and not just do snap-builds.

What's the best brand/type of paint to use for someone who's expecting to handle & play with their gunpla a lot?

I think one of the IBO weapon adds on has a piledriver of sorts, you would just need to add a revolver mechanism. What you're suggesting would be too small I think.

Though they really are the best Vic Viper kits out there, the quality isn't that great in places.

The plastic doesn't have a smooth finish (especially the blue parts) so you'll need to carefully sand it before painting. Also, get a knife and trace it along any panel lines that look shallow.

As someone who built the SZF2000 get it, especially if you don't already have a BUNCH of zakus. It uses the relatively recent Zaku F2 mold so it's pretty modern in the articulation and connections, but it's also solid as a brick. My only complaint is the super heat hawk doesn't sit particularly well in it's hands, but that's not too hard to fix.
