Can this be considered /m/? I mean its a show about pilots (albeit not the giant robot kind)
>>14724311
It is /m/.
Whatever happened to that scanlation project for the manga?
>>14724471
Sub ninjas in F2As.
Such is life at the area.
The things you'll never get to see, like the sand carrier in the sand.
Or the mountainside base they relocate the Area to.
Or that time they move to an aircraft carrier.
Or the AIR JOUST END.

>Or the AIR JOUST END.
oh my god it's an Ace Combat anime
>>14726299
Ace Combat is Area 88 the videogame.
>>14726551
That and the actual Area 88 videogame, of course.

>Air Joust

Pretty competent game especially considering that Capcom wasn't really known for their shmups.
>>14727499
Some console versions of those tended to be better (ex: Gun.Smoke, 1943), which is a testament to the skill of their console division back in the day.
>>14727499
>Capcom wasn't really known for their shmups
194x series brohams

>no superior NES Black Tiger
>>14727506
>1943 console
>superior to the arcade original
Have you actually sat down at a BoM or Midway Kai cabinet?
The arcade version is pure unadulterated fun with some damn good graphical presentation that holds up well to this day.
>>14727519
Well, both have their good points (NES one lets you upgrade your plane permanently).
That said, the PC Engine version of Kai seems to add more levels.
>>14727529
The NES port is just inferior on all accounts unless you like the rpg-esque level up idea, and I wouldn't accept the asset downgrade for that.
1943 is a beautiful game. It's also HYPE AS FUCK when you get into the rhythm of it. Playing the arcade version is the best way to experience it.
>>14727536
At least Micronics didn't do it (especially after the way they butchered 1942).
>>14727499
>Implying Side Arms isn't the greatest Gundam STG ever made
Only Cybattler comes close, really.

Westernized Area 88, never forget

>>14727775
I don't remember that show, but I remember the "F-19" well.
>>14728009
Actually, IIRC it showed up in >>14726966

Funny enough Ace Combat infinity did have a small crossover with Area 88 a few years ago

Holy shit, Fire Youngman; AC2 had an awesome soundtrack.
I wonder why they haven't ported to PC, they're just leaving cash on the table.
>>14727597
Bonus points for having Akiman himself do the artwork.

Hyper Duel was pretty nifty for a robot shooter
Ok this post has got me interested in the series, but one question...
which one should you watch, TV or OVA?
>>14730026
Production order.
>>14730026
Both.
It's not like one is more canon than the other, they all drift away from the manga in their own way. Best to experience as much as you can.
>>14728085
>F-5 Shin Kazama
>not the F-20
aww
>>14730026
The TV was shit
go with the OVA
>>14728085
Man i loved this game. Even more surprised that there was an update for it at the beginning of the year.

I'm shocked nobody has made this skin for the DCS F-5E yet, especially considering how many Ace Combat skins we have.
>>14724471
Is there something wrong with the comic version they did for the west?
>>14737298
Much of it was released in single issues, which weren't compiled.
>>14737298
It never even came close to finishing.
Like, it only scratches the surface of the series.
And not in the way the animated installments do, it's like a glancing blow that ends before the crazy truly begins.
>>14730302
Is it worth bothering with AC Infinity now? I recently played the PS2 trilogy and fell in love with the series.
Also did that Electrosphere fan translation ever finish?
>>14740314
It was never worth it.
Don't let anyone tell you otherwise, Infinity was never worth it.
>>14730302
Goddamnit, I fucking hated Infinity but that makes me want to play it again... That or wannabe VF-84/VF-103 F14s make my dick hard.

Hasegawa is re-releasing Area 88 kits in 1/48th
