What are some other "weirder" mecha like Evangelion, Rahxephon, Betterman, Star Driver or Neo Ranga.
Even by Tomino standards, Brain Powerd is really wierd
>>14687657
Is it weird and good though? Or more like Garzey's Wing?
>>14687655
Big O maybe? It has a pretty unique style and it tries to get deep later on.
Overman King Gainer.
I don't think it was actually good though. But the manga was. Too bad no one translated it all.
>>14687655
I'd throw Vandread on the list, simply because of the dynamics of the universe it's set in.At the end of the day, it's just Tenchi Muyo with Mechs, though.
>>14688002
Tenchi Muyo has mecha.
>>14687665
More just weird
>>14687962
That's a good choice for weird mecha.
There is a not-quite-mecha-but-post-cyberpunk show about VR that's represented by being underwater; but I can't remember the name. Lots of mecha elements and it's pretty weird. It's from the perspective of an old man who was comatose for many decades and has the mind of a teen; but who happens to be an ace at navigating VR world due to his teen history.
>>14688002
I love Vandread but setting aside in terms of plot it's pretty straight forward good guys on a space vs badguys
>Betterman
you could check out M3 if you want mecha horror
>>14688027
you can always tell the anime horror shows because one box character is always frowning or disgusted
>>14688031
well horror rarely evokes smiles
>>14687962
King Gainer's pure fun though.
>>14688047
Ginguiser
Seconding Brain Powerd, I thought it was really great in addition to being weird
Five Star Stories starts to get really weird after a while
>>14687655
Some stuff I enjoyed:
Argento Soma
Brigadoon
Gankutsuou
Heroic Age
Enjoy!
>>14687655
Gankutsuou is technically mecha, and it's a fairly good retelling of The Count of Monte Cristo.
Five Star Stories can be pretty damn trippy.
>>14688088
I still don't get why she wasn't a brown girl in any of the versions like in the manga.
>>14688280
Thanks for those, liked Gankutsuou, though I forgot it was mecha.
>>14688300
Watched it and rather liked it, mainly for the design though.
>>14687958
Really liked this one, big fan of Konaka here.
>>14687962
Cool, I actually watched two eps recently. This makes me want to watch it even more.
>>14688016

Real Drive.
He wasn't a teen though nor does he have the mind or behaviour of a teen, and he's not an ace at navigating VR because of that at all.
He fell comatose at 20 something, and he was good at navigating VR because as you said the VR is represented by water, and he was a professional diver.
The show isn't really largely from his perspective either, it's a mix of his and his caretaker.
You really ought to rewatch it if you don't remember even the basic setting of it, and if you thought it was weird at all (which it really wasn't).
I found that it was a very good show, anyway, very sentimental.
>>14688453
Watched that one, didn't really think it was weird though.
>>14688471
Yeah, it wasn't.
>>14687655
King gainer
Eureka seven is a tiny bit when it comes to the archetype and coralian stuff
Turn A gundam
Argento Soma
Infinite Ryvius
>>14688027
M3: the black steel is definitely one
Oh and I almost forgot, any fucking work by Tsutomu Nihei, animated or otherwise, picrelated is Knights of Sidonia, and he was being tame here.
>>14688453
I don't know if you intended for it to sound that way, but that's a lot of snark towards someone who admittedly couldn't even remember the name of the series.
>and if you thought it was weird at all (which it really wasn't).
Well, that's totally a matter of perspective. I thought it was weird, but apparently you didn't.
I don't need to re-watch it to remember there being androids, brain-computer interfaces, conciousness-transfer, a form of governance totally unlike any that exist now, and a totally whacky form of VR navigation that emulates swimming to fit the WHOLE WORLD that is developed into a totally silly 'search the sea' allegory.
Those are all pretty weird points when compared to some SoL bullshit or even most real-robot /m/ franchises.
I bet you don't think GiTS is weird at all , either. Right?
Are we defining 'weird' as 'religous and tribal elements' like in Evangelion and Rahxephon?
But yeah, you're absolutely right, I was mistaken about certain aspects about it.
I disagree that I was wrong about him being an ace due to his teen history. He WAS an ace in VR due to his teen history of *swimming*, that's the whole point of his usefulness post-convalescence.
Snark right back at ya, buddy.
>>14687655
Kaiba is good, though not technically mecha it is really dark Sci FI
>>14688047
Sometimes you got to put on a brave face tho
>>14688502
>Those are all pretty weird points when compared to some SoL bullshit or even most real-robot /m/ franchises.

No they aren't, and GiTS isn't weird. Is sci-fi in general "weird"?
>totally whacky form of VR navigation
>totally silly 'search the sea' allegory.
You "totally" don't seem to have liked the show at all, which I highly suspect is a result of your lack of understanding of it and your warped remembrance of it. Rewatch!
>his teen history of *swimming*
adult history
>>14687655
So who was that chick that died at the end of Neoranga? They're just like "this is what happens when you use it"
>>14688576
I honestly have no idea what happened in the last ten episodes, I sadly stopped caring as well.
>>14688513
Am I doing it right?
>>14687655
Where did you get the dvdrip?
Am currently watching shitty vhs rips.
Pls respond.
>>14688623
Eh close enough.you need to be a space vampire though but whatever
>>14688708better?
I'll never forget "Betterman" for the cannibalism episode ("Hunger", season 1 episode 18).
"Please let me eat you."
>>14688723
Ayyyyyyy
>>14688676
I think I just got it on Nyaa. It's been some time.
>>14688843
Thx breh found it.
>>14688963
whoops wrong page
>>14688723
Yeah right
>>14688976
Is this the one with the boy fatima prostitute that gets his head cut off?
>>14688576
Are you talking about Labuley? She was kind of a main character mang
>>14688708
>space vampire
Oh yeah Bubblegum Crisis got really weird around when the mech showed up.
Wasnt the purpose of rahxephon just human instrumentality?
Fafner, Gasaraki, Argento Soma.
>>14687655
Gay sex.
>>14689997
Fuck.
>>14689997
>>14689999
It's name is Legend of the Blue Wolves.
>>14687655
What's the name of this qt?
>>14691008
Shimabara Minami
Did Yui kind of scare anyone else? It's a good thing she loves her sisters because she might have been more evil than the actual villain if left to her own devices.
>>14692178
I bet she fucks like an underage tiger.
>>14687655
Zegapain
>>14692178
Yeah, at the start she was a motherfucker
She seemed to lighten up as the series progressed, she was the only one who worried about leaving Laubrey with the Suura
>>14697007
In fairness bitches did try to play her
