In many ways I feel Gokaiger is something like Toei's technical masterpiece. Don't get me wrong, maybe it's not objectively the best Sentai series, but the amount of care, work and attention to detail put into that series to homage the history of the entire franchise is just fucking insane. From seeing all the old suits again to reproducing the old sound effects to the guest stars on almost every episode to the unfiltered energy and enthusiasm and passion for the series as a whole. It was an anniversary made out of love for Sentai. A love letter for the franchise. Toei really made something special and it could have been done only with a franchise with this longevity.

When Gokaiger was airing I was like "oh this episode is pretty good". But now that I've seen Liveman... holy shit this is the best tribute episode out of all of them.

It relates the main story of Liveman and uses it to give Joe a critical lesson for his own arc in a way that totally fits, and it caps off Liveman PERFECTLY. FUCK I love this episode.

Many reasons.

I enjoy the work and the craftmanship that goes into these shows. I'm a fan of low budget cinema so I can appreciate the quirkiness of something being done with a lot less resources than Hollywood shit. Tokusatsu is really an art for me, from the detailed choreography down to dudes in robot suits standing in sets of buildings made from cardboard creating the illusion of size. Like Godzilla or Ultraman.
I enjoy the suits and the fight scenes, which are really well done.
I like the emotion, the over the top fun and the excitement they have.
They're unashamed to be what they are: colorful superhero shows with over the top action about people who fight against villains to protect the world. Which is something simplistic and childish, but that's the beauty of the idea.
The characters are fun and their problems sometimes can be compelling and relatable.
It can be a bit dark at times. Sometimes VERY DARK.
The music is very good and helps to create the excitement.

I'm sure I'm forgetting something but those are pretty much the most important things.

Don't know if you guys read but Ryosuke Sakamoto, Red One from Bioman, announced that he has been diagnosed with Stage 3 esophageal cancer and will be undergoing treatment and surgery for it.

Michiko Makino, Pink Five, blogged that at the recent Red Festival in Tokyo, Kazuo Niibori the stuntman and others arranged for the other four members of Bioman to secretly show up after Sakamoto announced his cancer to the audience. The voices of the others were heard off stage, saying that they were supporting him, and couldn't wait to celebrate his good health with him. Then they all showed up and stood on stage together with him. They all cried together.

There's a hashtag on Twitter, #GoRedOne if you'd like to tweet to him to show your support. Even English is OK. Sakamoto doesn't have a Twitter but the messages are going to be delivered to him.

I just finished Kamen Rider OOO (my first toku show) and I want to watch a super sentai show next.

What should a beginner watch? I heard about Tensou Sentai Goseiger and that it's about B-movie horror characters which sounds cool but I've also seen a youtube video that said it's one of the worst.

Goseiger is not one of the worst. It just happened to fall between two of the most popular shows within the western fanbase, and due to that people never gave it a chance after it had finished and just complained about how the cast looked.

Watch it, and enjoy it. It has a great cast of characters, villains are great, action scenes are pretty decent and the mechs are pretty too, apart from the final one. GoseiKnight is a treasure.

Yeah, Fourze is space/Astronaut theme. Because it was during the 40th anniversary of Rider, he has 40 different switches in his belt, most of them are useless.

The thing you should know though is that it feature one of the coolest, most likable, most memorable protagonists Rider has had in ages.
