Weekly update #3

Added: Ship Laboratory - Equivalent to berry planting in vanilla Pokemon.
It's mainly used to farm EV (Stat enhancing) berries, and basic healing items. The idea is to let players who are strapped for cash squeeze out a few extra items, or give people who want to powergame access to the EV mechanic without having them go through ridiculous hoops/require a wiki to find EV distributions.

Mecha added:
/m/-tan; he's our game's Ditto, but with better HP. There's two versions, one is plot related, similar to the Red Gyarados, and the others are "generic", the plot related one has a much better ability (Imposter instead of Limber).


Pilots added:
Kamille as Mind Plate
Fa Yuiry as Red Card
Setsuna as EXP Share(?)

We're looking at the rest of the suggested pilots and trying to find items that fit. Same with Mechs, instead we're searching for assets.

Finished going though the playtest, as corny as it was this thing definitely has potential. And I really like the pilots-as-items concept.

Clearly, Mazinkaiser's megastone-pilot should be Kaidou and Megami, who remodel it into SKL.

Thanks for playing. The only reason the play test was silly was because it is about showing off what we can do gameplay wise and less story wise. The actual game will have more meaningful dialogue. We also don't know if we want to have too many megastone pilots but we save all recommendations so that we keep them in mind.

If Dragon Ascent/Mega Rayquaza is programmed in, you could use it to activate Trans Am on any 00 mechs you include. Have a Dragon Dance esque boosting move trigger a Mega Evo in any 00 Units, with an ability that halves their stats or something after a couple of turns to represent burnout.

Had a stupid idea a couple days ago, so what if Unit 01 was that chibi version from Evangelion@School until you put Shinji in as the pilot, and then it becomes the actual Unit 01 (ala Giratina changing into Origin forme when you give it the Griseous orb)?
Or do you plan on using Shinji as a mega stone like it says in the roster? What would it even turn into anyway? 3rd impact Unit 01? Would it go berserk? Maybe just a stat increase?

That's a good idea. Maybe we can use that for specific mecha. However, I'm not sure if we can give the pilot two effects. If that's the case, it may make some of the pilots worthless after evolution. Plus if they are killed during an infantry fight or otherwise, you won't be able to evolve said mech. I think the idea is good but I also think we should have some non pilot items as evo stones

Even though I wrote mega, Shinji probably won't give a full 100 BST increase, that's completely nuts for something with Landorous's stats/moveset.

It might be as small as an ability change; we'll figure out the best solution during balancing.

Pilots with evo effects and combat effects should be fine. Evolution Stones should be upgrade parts.

Also, as a god tier pilot with a reputation for ruining the mechs he pilots, Amuro Ray should be the Life Orb. Give Nu Gundam/Hi Nu Gundam an ability that nullifies Life Orb damage like Sheer Force or Magic Guard.

Eva-01 should probably have two Berserk modes, like Charizard. Shinji pre-char development would give a Berserk Mode that's uncontrollable, as if it were an overleveled trade Pokemon. Shinji post-char development would give the Rebuild 2.0 Berserk Mode, which is one of the game's Super Legendaries. They'd have the same stats, but their abilities would be different.

Super Shinji would probably be postgame or very endgame.

Life Orb is a fun idea, especially since Amuro will likely be a late game pilot. Sheer Force or Magic Guard are great choices, we'll keep those in mind.

Question, why are the three Getters different Mechamon, rather than a single Mon that changes forms like Aegislash? Like, attack moves would change it to Getter 1, priority moves would change it to Getter 2, and...I dunno, counter moves would be Getter 3.

Having them as separate Mechamon gives the player a bit more variety; all the getter types currently have their own evo lines, stats, movesets, abilities, etc.

We could have it where any getter can change into another form outside of battle, but that might be cumbersome.

Actually, thinking about it, it wouldn't be that hard to balance at all. If you look at it from a purely statistical viewpoint, then think about what changing into each form would mean.

Getter 1 is the balanced, standard form, so we'll skip it. It's what you'll change into when you use most attacks.

Getter 2 requires a priority move. Changing into it leaves you vulnerable for the round since it's defences are low, but it almost guarantees that you'll go first next round since your stats change after turn order is calculated. Getter 3 is the opposite - you'll be able to take a hit, but you'll go last next turn, and it isn't abusable like Aegislash since it doesn't trigger from Protect-like moves.

I dunno, I just think it'd be a fun concept to play with.

Some unit suggestions:
You can fill out some of the Bio slots with Brain Powerd, Zoids, and Betterman.

Fafner has quite a few units. Might be worth squeezing in to fill slots for PSI or Bio.

If you need grunts and marine units, Brain Powerd, Aquatic MS, and FMP

Also, you'd be suprised how many MSV's are just recolors. Aquatic Zaku's are literally just blue and orange recolors

Jirachi or Deoxys could be Fafner Mark Sein and Nicht.

I didn't see LODM Gaiking characters, those have sprites in DS SRW games already. All(I think) of the shows I've mentioned already have sprites in SRW, so you can just rip them.

Yeah, they're under Bio and Alien, depending on their origin/how bizzarre they look. Balancing is also taken into account.

Eva and Remiel would be Bio, while the Regult and Uchuu Kaijuu are Alien

It's about as fluid as it is in Pokemon

Guy from the /vp/ thread here. A lot of Zoids could be done by ripping their sprites from the Zoids Saga GBA games, which are already hugely pokemon-like. They're a bit bigger than regular pokemon sprites though. You'd need an artist who could edit them and make them workable in a pokemon game.

We would probably treat them in a similar way to the uchuu kaijuu from Gunbuster. We would make a three stage evolution with the third stage being a choice between two of the strongest.

As much as we would like to include all the ones you've listed, 10 mechmon of the same kind/show will be uninteresting. We will probably choose 3-4 that are the most fun or make the most sense and implement those.

We also need assets for them, as we have none

While we aren't keeping things 100% to scale, Sir Kilalot is not taller than a person, which wont really make sense in our game.

Regarding robots that aren't "mechs" or or "mobile suit" types, if we include them, we are crossing the boundaries of our setting. While it might make sense for our futuristic setting to have robots, if we include them, what is stopping us from including any kind of robot? This opens the door to any kind of robot suggestion which becomes dangerous territory. We will stick with Haro, if anything.

I feel like this doesn't need to be said, but then again we might as well squash these suggestions before they flood the threads.

I think someone already suggested Nineball but that's probably the most iconic Armored Core mech, the only issue is it's an AI pilot.

Other that could you work one of the Assault Suits mechs in? Leynos or Valken. You might be able to rip some base sprite work for editing from the games considering their nature.

I'd offer to help but I'm not sure I could keep up with any work which might be necessary as I'm just starting a Master's course.

I think we have armored core but if not we can for sure include them. Also everyone gets a clean storyline slate, so if it's an AI piloted mech, there's no reason why we can't have it be piloted by a person. Also if you want to help, but feel like you don't have time, that's ok because while we wanna get it done as fast as possible, we understand that people have their own lives. Honestly, we will take any help we can get, so even if you just contribute one thing it will be a big help. What are your skills?

Also had a quick look and while I couldn't find sprites for Leynos, I found a few which might be suitable for Nineball with some editing work. Haven't checked Jap sites though so there's probably plenty more.

I'll keep them handy for now just in case, there's some for Nineball Seraph (interestingly including a Mugen fighter) and a few for Baby's Breath.
