I gotta say, Ota definitely has the more interesting version of Grendizer, lore-wise than either Nagai's manga or the TV anime.

People conflate super robots with super heroes. It's wrong to think of Ota's Grendizer as your typical American super "hero".
The one i just read about was a Guardian by an ancient civilisation.And when shit goes bad between humans, Grendizer was given the command to destroy Earth. Hardly a super hero..

most of the 70's mangas I read goes bad end for the characters, I guess I never read a Good ending from Ishinomori.
