It's an amazing game in my opinion and comparing it to VC is rather disingenuous since the only real common ground to them is that they combine semi-realtime tactics with a third person shooter interface.

But seriously I found STEAM to be an unrelenting hype curve that never seems to slope downwards. At worst it just has a kinda meh beginning, but then it's like it just refuses to stop being hype. The game just paces out its stuff so well that everything maintains a sense of freshness for far longer than you'd expect; there's always some new thing to try out, some excuse to revisit missions you've already completed.

A true 3D game hasn't been done. MML was okay but was more of a slow adventure game. The action weren't great. The later 3D X games werne't great either. It could work as a fully 3D action/shooter. Maybe something like Vanquish.
