***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

So, Edgy Gundam groupbuild. Are you guys up for it? No prizes or anything, just something to get some creativity brewing in the general. Was thinking it'd go from the start of September up to Halloween, two months should be enough for customizing an HG.

Only requirements that I can think of is the finished model must have Black as a primary/secondary color and you have to make an Original the Character backstory to go with it.
>>
>>14640954
Make a poll.
I'm all for it though. Might motivate me to start my grimgerde custom.
Would be pretty interesting to see us try to outedge eachother.

Guys can anyone tell me how long it usually takes for Tamiya extra thin cement to bond?
>>
>>14641166

>>14641166

What do you mean bond? That stuff works fast and dries quickly. If you mean when you can start working on it again, I'd give it 2-3 hours to be safe.
>>
>>14640954
I'd be down for a group build, it sounds fun. I just got two GMs in and two zakus and a gouf are on the way. Although, more fancy robits might be better for edging.
>>

If you're a good builder, it's the same value but cheaper.
>>
>>14641177
>2-3 hours

you are retarded
>>
>>14641187

For extra thin that's fine unless you're slathering it on.
>>
>>14641183

This isn't really why people buy bootleg shit, also the question was "where"

Typically 3rd party kits are different in some way, not just direct knockoffs (though they do exist) and typically they take more time and effort to fix, so whether or not they are a value depends how much your time is worth.
>>
>>14641001
Alright, I'll make a poll in a few days for what group build we do. Any other suggestions? I wanted to do a Melee focused group build after /toy/'s GM one since those entries were all ranged focused, plus there's plenty of material to work with in IBO/Build Fighters kits
>>
>>14641195

Thanks, I left it like four hours already but I'll give it another because I'm not sure what constitutes slathering this stuff on.

curved blades are for making curved cuts as they apply the bladed edge as you twist and turn the knife

chisel blades are for scraping along smooth surfaces, good for getting superglue off desks

Pretty sure the one second from the right is for making very small cuts where the offset blade and small size makes it easier to see what you're doing, but I've never found a use for it.

To me, this is a bit more pro = Metal texture, rust pigments, decals, etc
>>
>>14641393
>that
>pro
>>
>>14641369

No, being pro simply means you get paid for it and make a living out of it.

Some guy in his basement putting together sick looking models with godlike detailing isn't pro unless he's getting paid for it. He's good, amazingly skilled, a god, whatever, but he's not pro.

Some guy who just does a basic panel line/seam weld/top coat job is pro if the company pays him to build kits for promotional photos and he can keep getting that kind of work at least semi-regularly.

"Pro" is only a measure of skill in that if you are a pro, it implies you are good enough that other people will pay you for your work.

In relation to that kit, it's not amazing, but it's a nice and clean job, and looks pretty good.

>>
>>14641463
>>
>>14641457
The problem with that "realism" is that it's not realistic because of the scale. Most of the texturing and weathering would be gigantic if the robot was 144x bigger.
>>

2129.jpg
74KB, 720x540px
>>14641457
Anime Style and Realistic Style are both fine. It's just that things like the textured weathering in >>14641393 don't work on a 1/144 scale kit because as that one guy said, those indentations on the chest and skirt and shoulders would be fuckhuge, while on say a 1/35 tank they'd be around 2 inches IRL.

Here's an example of realistic detailing that I think looks good. The weathering is subtle and isn't too distracting, and the little details like the wires in the torso really add to the look of the product.
>>
>>14641457

they are models of anime robots after all

>>14641520
Huh. I get it now
>>14641528
I still think it would be pretty great if it was a bit more subtle, but I prefer this to super neon lines
>>
>>14641528
I think people just forget to make up a reason why the suit is weathered.
Like, if the pic in your post was, and I'm assuming they're going for a rusted effect, fighting in a wet or swampy environment, the legs could be more rusty than the rest, with the level of rust fading as you go up the body. Torso, arms, and head could be scruffed up too. Make the side of the gauntlet more damaged than the rest of the both arms, because he uses it to block unavoidable attacks when he can't bring the mace around fast enough. With the mace, make it look used by scratching up one side slightly more than the others, to show that the pilot maybe just unconsciously prefer one side of the mace instead of rolling it around.

If you want budget nippers get the Xuron 2175ET. They're better than the 410s in the guide, by a small but noticeable amount. But that said it's really a better investment to eat the extra 10 bucks and buy some Tamiya nippers.

Any 5 dollar pen scriber will do.

Group Build ideas so far (For September/October)

>Original: The Character - Make the edgiest mobile suit you can think of, and come up with a cringey backstory for it
>Believe in Gunpla and Hold a Determination to Fist - Make a melee-focused mobile suit, with no ranged weapons. Swords, Axes, Lances, Fists, and anything of the like are a go
>Dazzling the Stage - Whip out that Bedazzler and make the most fabulous mobile suit you can. The classier the better
>You gotta find first gear in your Gunpla Robot Car - It's time to pimp your gunpla and make it themed around a car of your choice. Muscle car, off roader or street drifter, it's up to you how you want your kit to look

There are actually very few P-Bandai knockoffs, which is a fucking shame because fuck paying $120 for the MG Banshee Norn. Bandai is fucking retarded, it's one of the two leading suits in the fucking finale of Unicorn. How did it get shafted so bad? Two versions, BOTH P-bandai, fuck Bandai. I built the Marine as one of my first gunpla ever and then threw it out sometime ago because it was this horrific nubbed up and gouged shit. And now I have a Gelgoog Cannon in my backlog.

The Gelgoog mold is both old and limited by the design of the mech. So you got these zero articulation legs and the best you can do is have the legs slightly bent forward and like an inch apart. And the elbows are the standard old crappy elbows.

I must have fiddled with my Gelgoog Marine for an hour trying to get a good ground pose, but you're basically limited to

>standing "display style" with legs close
>standing neutrally with legs slightly apart
>standing with legs slightly apart aiming gun forward
>standing with legs slightly apart aiming gun off to the side
>standing with legs slightly apart holding gun ready but not actually aiming at anything
>the above three but with one leg out a little further and bent at the knee slightly more in a more aggressive stance

That's basically it. Like, it's OK for what it is, but it's not good.

Shit ankle articulation is a given for HGUC at this point. Very few of them have good ankles even though it would be fairly simple, just put a swivel inside the bottom of the leg. Combined with a ball joint it'd give a ton of range of motion while looking decent.

just snapped these guys together!

if anyone wanted a quick review:

1. wing honoo is awesome but manlet sized compared to everyone else. shield is difficult to pose with and although the wings can do a lot, the limitations are there. the flame swords are really cool and a huge selling point.

2. transient really needed some more clear blue on the kit, but that's personal opinion. the tridents are well implemented and fun to pose. the bottom clear part on his backpack kept falling off, have to look into that.

3. portent i bought just to complete a team but she ended up my second favorite, her wings everywhere are fun to fiddle around with. however, i've had one arm fall off at the bicep over and over and it's getting annoying. really interested in a 00 shia qanta but wished it had green clear parts instead

So, in /m/'s opinion, whats the best PG.
The one that every gunpla owner should have in their collection.

I finished my Char Zaku PG a while ago and ive been itching for another one. So what is the one that is just the absolute best (be it in terms of final look, good design, fun to build, etc).
>>
>>14645287
Best frame is usually said to be Mk II. Best overall kit is the GP-01 since it's both variants.
>>
>>14644750
I haven't had any problems with my Portent.

not that impressive or fun actually.
it still based on PG Strike frame, some of the armor part makes articulation a turned down.
get PG Asrtray because 1000x folded steel Katana purpose only, not a good idea. unless you have tons of cash to spend.
>>
>>14645287
>>14645300

While I don't own one personally (I really want one) You are getting 2 kits in 1 with the GP-01. You do get a cool hangar display and mechanics similar to the ones that came with the MK II.

Zeta is really good. I expected PG detail and a full transformation a disaster, but it holds together very, very well.

MK II is great as well. The tough choice is getting AEUG or Titans.

I guess ive always sorta worried that the UC based gundam models would be kinda bland and a step down from the zaku's difficulty. From all the pictures ive seen, the frame looks less complicated and theres less armor and just overall looks simpler.

I could be wrong, though.

Zippo lighter fluid and a Zippo light.

Saturate your gunpla in lighter fluid. No, you're gonna really soak that bitch. Like an entire bottle's worth on just one.

Now that your gunpla is good and ready, use your Zippo to light the Zippo lighter fluid on your gunpla.

The fire will burn away all the panel lines while leaving your gunpla unharmed. But this'll only happen if you use a lot of fluid. Too little and it won't work. It's everything or nothing with this method.

The boot legs are never as good as Bandai stuff, but there are uses for them. I hate bootlegs that just copies the bandai runners and cover art trying to fool people into buying their shit they've put no work into.
But then there's bootleggers like Dragon Momoko who base their kits on Bandai engineering but add their own touches on a model.

To be blunt. Design, availability and scale are things Bootleggers can offer but seldom do.

For westerners the bootlegs are just about as expensive as the real stuff anyways so it's never worth it if nothing of the three caveats above are relevant.

its great, leaps and bounds better than the HG Flags which are known to be the worst of the 00 kits. the 1/100 OverFlag is pretty much a MG in surface detail and design, its just too skinny for an inner frame. the joints and assembly are pretty unique and it has all the gimmicks you would expect, plus the transformation is pretty solid once you get the weird rotating chest to work. the biggest downside is that it needs a lot of white paint, which is a pain on an all-black kit.

Actually they're both shit. Molding quality wise Daban and DM are basically the same and people have reported a lot of fitting problems with the DM Tallgeeses.

It's delusional to think they'd be that different considering Daban was always considered the "higher end" knockoffs.

Avoid them both unless you have the skill to fix up things like loose joints; bad alignments; and poorly molded or shallow details. If you just expect Bandai-like quality from DM you're going to have a bad time.
