I can't be the only one that thinks "Fortunate Son" by CCR fits perfectly with the 08th MS team OP... can I...

it does fit the theme of the show

not sure about the opening sequence itself, fits some parts, fails at others

bet "brothers in arms" by dire straits would be a fitting ending, but I don't remember the ending sequence of 08th MS team very well

Fortunate Son is an overrated song.

You want true, 'nam feels?

Two plus Two is on my mind:

Don't think OP was saying Fortunate Son was good or not just that it fit the 08th Ms opening

For instance, I don't really care to much for Danger Zone, but i can agree it fits the first opening of 0083

Everyone compared 8th MS team to Vietnam, but I just don't see it. Yes it takes place in roughly the same area of asia so it's jungle fighting, but the parallels mostly stop there.

For one, the feddies aren't fragging their own COs in record numbers when told to go into dangerous situations.

Wow, that really does fit, doesn't it?

Now I want a Top Gun Gundam series/movie.
>>
>>14639609
Fragging was massively overstated as a problem.
Stop watching Ollie Stone movies.
>>
>>14639609
I suppose the """realism""" of the material is where the comparisons come from.

Vietnam movies are more grounded in their depictions of the psychological trauma and moral ambiguity of life as a soldier on the front versus the heroic ennobling and "clean" depiction of warfare presented in Hollywood films about WWII.

I don't remember SPR, BoB, or The Pacific being "clean".

I think the closest we ever got to a top gun anime was in macross

Yeah Macross Plus was pretty good. I don't think there's ever been anything quite like it in /m/.

Had some good music too.

There's also Tortilla Chips.
Remember Yuuya "TOP GUN" Bridges?
>>
>>14639644
Because those movies came out AFTER Vietnam. Damn nigga I gotta spell this out for you?

Mobile Suit Gundam: the era of Hollywood war movies before Vietnam (The Great Escape, every John Wayne movie ever, a bunch of WWII movies no one remembers anymore because they were boring forgettable tripe)
08th MS Team: the watershed. Scorsese, Stone, Coppola, etc. It's "gritty" and "real"
Stardust Memory: the Michael Bay effect. We don't like movies that challenges our conventions but we do like "gritty" and "real" explosions! Top Gun, etc.

the only other show that I can think of that comes close to being "top gun" themed show would be the old Area 88 OVAs.

But that series doesn't exactly belong here on /m/

Nowhere did you say that, you said "Hollywood films depict WW2 as "clean", which is patently false.
>>

I don't remember Steven Spielberg being "Hollywood."
>>

Steven Spielberg is the textbook definition of "Hollywood", what the fuck are you talking about?

That wasn't what I was thinking of, but I would take his word over yours because he actually did fight in Vietnam.

>>14639628

But then it makes less sense because 8th MS is where love conquers all.

It would probably help if you knew what you were talking about.

Because, you know, that's the complete opposite of "REBOOT; FUCK CREATIVITY, REBOOT" Hollywood.

How does that prove me wrong?
He's a massively popular director and producer who's created tons of super popular blockbusters, and he and his production company is responsible for much of Hollywood's most beloved classics.
