I can't get enough of the qubeley and its development. I really think it was the future of mobile suit development. Kind of weird how they stopped using funnels in Gundam F91, any one know why?

Zeon Gundam: The Gundam That True Fans Want

With his new weapon he went down to earth and started killing all the GMs Jegans and Federations with his Zeon Gundam Cross Buster Double XVI Booster Gold and his army of Zakus which cut through all the other GMs and Jegans like they were made out of tinfoil. Zeon Char Zeon then killed the entire Federation and destroyed the Earth so the environment could be free from earthnoids. Zeon Char Zeon was relaxing after his victory when suddenly a bunch of stupid lame pirate guys with midget mobile suits showed up. "Who the fuck are you losers?" Zeon Char Zeon said. "We're the Crossbone Vanguard! Will you be our friends?" But Zeon Char Zeon laughed at them cause they ere losers and said "You wish you were as cool as Zeon!" and killed them. It's simply cause Zeon Deikun was wrong. Instead of Newtypes becoming more and more common, they became less and less until they were almost mythical, so there was almost nobody left to control remote weaponry. Between CCA/Unicorn and F91 there was a period of relative peace (sidestories aside), which involved disarmament and the Federation downscaling their military. Some Jovian mobile armors use funnels, but with I-Fields and beam shield tech being so commonplace later on, they were of limited use.

Not really. Funnels and Bits work by translating the special psycowave brainwaves Newtypes emit into mechanical commands via a psycommu/psycoframe system, which Minovsky particles can't interfere with, unlike regular EM waves.

There's still wire-guided INCOMS, which have several variants in Victory and work in a similar way, but normal people can also use them. They're still pretty uncommon though.

More or less. There's a few still around here and there, but they largely aren't employed by the Federation in combat roles anymore. The ones that do instead exploit their Newtype powers for strange powers and effects, unlike early UC where they controlled remote weapons instead.

Plus, there were at least two groups going around collecting any Newtypes they could to create Newtype-only colonies and leave the rest of humanity behind, so that didn't help any.

The popular account is that at some point during Zeta's production Tomino got the green light to make CCA so he changed plans for ZZ, pulling Char from it and concentrated on the film, with less attention on ZZ itself. I don't actually think it's true myself, partially because Char is in the OP of ZZ but mostly because CCA seems to put Amuro and Char back to the end of 0079 in many ways so I can't see Tomino doing it on his own and it seems more likely to me that someone at Sunrise ordered him to make a film about the most popular character (Char) and his most popular moment (his rivalry with Amuro). So at some point near the end of Zeta, but when ZZ was already started production (ZZ started the week after Zeta ended) the decision was made and changes had to be made to ZZ to accommodate the new production.

You do not need to watch any other series before Turn-A, never mind ALL of them. And I say that as someone who loves Turn-A. It references other shows, but they're not remotely necessary to understand the show. I'd say as long as you've watched one UC Gundam show so as to get the gist of what the franchise was about you'll appreciate what it was trying to do for Gundam and why just fine, bar the odd reference. I think that may have been what Tomino wanted to do with Char in ZZ, show his development into the Char we see in CCA. If we take it as fact that the artist Roux meets in Galdai(or whatever that desert town was) is Char, we see a person that is incredibly resigned to humanity's fate of constant war and misunderstanding.

It wouldn't be surprising to me that Char would completely give up on doing things the 'right' way and just decide to drop Axis and deal with the fallout later.

I just wish that we had been able to see that transition first-hand, instead of from the attitude of a character that, despite looking and sounding like Char, may not have even been him.
