ITT: Dumb questions or simple one offs that don't deserve their own thread.

Why does the GM Cold Type look so much more like a vanilla GM than the GM Commands? I understand that 0080 was intended to redesign all MS, machinery, etc. but I don't get this.
It's mainly the head that confuses me. The Cold Type's head is pretty obviously similar to the base GM, but the Command's is very different, closer to something like a GM Sniper.
>>
>>14617362
The cold type is a stock GM head while the command type is an upgraded version with better electronics for commanding. Same reason Char's Zaku has a horn antenna.
>>
Maybe the Cold Type wasn't build on a Command frame but a modified RGM-79 frame? Ever since reading Blue Destiny and Zeonic Front I always thought of it as the command Earth use GM
>>
>>14617513
That's a pretty solid way to look at it in-universe. In reality, where we know 0080 was originally planned to be a retcon, what could the reason have been?
>>
>>14617525
Nope, that GM command in the middle is the ground version of the command type. The cold district is most likely a GM with extra heating(hence the pipes on it's face) to not freeze up in cold places.

>>14617554
Not him. They're not pipes, but vents.
Anyways, I'm not sure if the Colony Command is just a ground GM, Colonies are in space after all. I'd think it still has some capability for space flight, but it just isn't as optimized for space as the space use Command.
>>
>>14617573
Oh no see, the ground spec'd command type is the black one while the one spec'd for space combat is red.
>>
>>14617573
>>14617554
You never see the GM Command on Earth though, but in both Blue Destiny, and Zeonic Front you see GM Cold Climate Types as an upgrade over the standard RGM-79 used in North America and North Africa. It's supposed to have more thrusters giving it speed on par with a Dom.
>>
>>14617582
That's what I was saying though, that the brown (Colony use) command looked to me like it was still spaceworthy, just not quite as much so as the Space Command.

>>14617587
That clears things up, thank you.

Most of the pilots were in Diving Beetles, but that likely didn't have much to do with it.
I think it may be more like your average AT has its own life support systems and then you have the pilot suit on top of that, rather like with MS. Chirico himself mentioned in series he just wears his suit all the time, or I may be mixing that up with how he likes the Scopedog as opposed to other AT types.

The RGM-79D is essentially Augusta Base's ground-specific version of the RGM-79G from Luna II. It looks more like a stock GM because the engineers at Augusta were working off design documents of both the RGM-79 and the RGM-79G, producing a what might be considered a hybrid of the two.

Although the "Cold Climate Type" might be a bit of a misleading title. The RGM-79D was built to be easily modified to work in just about any conditions on Earth. It's more likely that the ones were see in 0080 specifically were Cold Climate types.

It's worth noting that Yuu Kajima's Marmot team in the new Blue Destiny manga uses GM Commands with RGM-79D backpacks, meaning that their GM Commands were likely some of the first produced on Earth at Augusta.

In the first manga, yes. In the Sega Saturn game however, they use the RGM-79G and never get the Type D.

In the new manga, they use the RGM-79(G) at Odessa, and then get the RGM-79DO and some RGM-79Gs with Type D backpacks. Far as I can tell, the manga did this to stay closer to the game version, and gave the Marmot Team's GM Commands the RGM-79D backpack to tie them to Augusta base, which is the most likely place they would have come from, anyway.

While the Vanilla GM Sniper Custom from MSV is the most widely recognized one, both versions technically have precedent in the lore.

The first production run of the RGM-79SC was done at Luna II, where the production lines for the RGM-79E and RGM-79C were located. Considering that the Sniper Custom was basically a modification for ace pilots, and that no two were alike, Japanese fans have been speculating lately that the Katokified FIX version of the Sniper Custom (which has been appearing a lot more often lately in games) is actually Luna II's version, while the original version from MSV are Sniper Customs made at Jaburo.

The actual FIX Figuration GM Sniper Custom specifically has Francis Backmeyer's emblem on it, meaning Backmeyer was probably one of the pilots trained at Luna II.

That's the fan theory, anyway.

This is pretty much a "how do EFSF into storage space" question. In Char's Counterattack Ra Cailum is supposed to carry 8 MS (1 Nu Gundam, 1 Re-GZ, and 6 Jegans), so what voodoo magic did they perform so that it can now carry 12 MS (4 teams of 3 Jestas each) Unicorn? The same could pretty much apply to Nahel Argama that its MS carrying capacity went from 12 to 16 or "how much things EFSF have to move around to retrofit a MS hangar for the Salamis Kai"
>>
>>14619692
Maybe the Ra Cailum didn't have a full hangar loadout during CCA, and that was just how many there were on the ship at the time.

The Nahel Argama was definitely remodeled with an expanded midsection and redesigned rear hull by the time of Unicorn, so that would explain the ability to carry 4 extra MS.

MS capacity doesn't necessarily refer to storage space alone so much as how many mobile suits a carrier can carry and reliably maintain. You could probably fit twenty or so Gundams in the White Base if you really crammed them in.

Increasing the number might be a simple case of hanger refits or better maintenance equipment, or an increase in personell to maintain the on-board MS.

Speaking of ridiculous amount of mobile suits compared to actual storage ability how about when the White Base or Neo Argama is your battleship in a SRW game?

You'd need at least a scavenged Dolos Carrier with some of the interior walls knocked out, then at least you might be able to carry a couple of the meatier Super robots.

>The whole bit about Nahel Argama

Which also doesn't seem to make sense when so many ReZELs and Jegans were lost throughout the OVA (even taking the replacements into consideration). It always feels like the Nahel Argama was carrying at least 20 MS when you take the comms during battle into consideration

ReZEL: 4 teams of 3
Jegan: 2 teams of 3
EWACS Jegan: At least 2

And here's a list of on-screen casualities throughout the OVA (ECOAS units notwithstanding)

1: At least 1 Jegan and 4 ReZELs
2: 1 Stark Jegan and 3 ReZELs (only Riddhe survived)
3: At least 2 Jegans
6: 1 Jegan and 2 ReZEL (all non-total loss, 1 was seen retrieved by Unicorn in OVA 7)
7: 2 Jegans, 2 Stark Jegans (1 was a replacement unit received before Palau), and 1 ReZEL

This also makes me wonder on how did Londo Bell managed to not get wiped out during the Axis operations when they were basically outnumbered 4 to 1 in Char's Counterattack and we saw a good deal of Jegans got styled by Char and the lot

Gundam numbers are absolutely retarded. The highest scoring ace in the OYW, Zeon's Breniff Oguz, supposedly shot down 193 mobile suits, even though the GM was only introduced by around November and the guy was transferred to an instructor position before the end of the war. 193 individual MS shot down in the space of about a month or less, and the guy supposedly gave kill credits to his wingmen to boot.
>>
>>14620074

>The Nahel Argama was resupplied before the raid on Palau. Do we know how many units they received?

Not counting any Lotos and ECOAS Jegans the on-screens include 1 Jegan D Type, Stark Jegan (Early Type), and Delta Plus each. It might have received more units but idk

>It never seemed like they had 12 ReZELs, fewer were shot down going by your own tally.

I was also going through their Callsigns as well, and we see at least 1 surviving ReZEL and Jegan in OVA 7 when Nahel Argama fired at the Neo Zeon ships. Also the total ReZEL casualties when added came up to 10

Romeo 001: Norm (KIA in OVA 2)
Romeo 004: Homare (KIA in OVA 2)
Romeo 008: Riddhe

Zock swimming.png

>>14627027
The former.
The perception of the Zock suffers from being extremely specialized for aquatic combat.

>Shape gives it a swimming advantage in water as it swims akin to a torpedo, symmetrical body makes this easier to manage and the monoeye rail both plays into this and allows the Zock to swim lying prone more easily, plus it doesn't need to really turn around on land
>"skirt" on the waist and "bib" on the upper body allow for Dom-like jet movement on land
>has nine, count 'em, NINE mega particle cannon.
>this is powerful enough by itself but in addition they are laid out in such a way that the Zock can not only easily shoot at targets immediately in front of it in water whilst swimming, but it can also perform devastating schräge-muzik style attacks on surface shipping or submerged foes
>on land this translates to being very difficult to attack from most directions
>Huge claws make for effective melee armament

It's a torpedo with legs, after a fashion, and so are many other specialized aquatic MS, in both shape and swimming. The Zock jobbed to Amuro because he hit it where it counted; in the cockpit.
We Are Federation Hooligans gives it a good run.

Many Zeon aquatic MS share traits the Zock embodies, namely things like full-body monoeye traverse (Acguy, Z'gok), "head" weapons or tools for swimming use (Gogg, Z'gok), and other features intended to take advantage of water and make swimming easier on the suit. Zeek aquatic MS can be divided into true aquatic and amphbibious suits, with aquatic ones being specifically intended to fight -in- water, (Z'gok, Zock, Gogg to a degree), and others intended to use water as an advantage, but not necessarily to fight in it (Acguy, Agguguy, Agg, Zogok).

Later generations of water MS would sometimes inherit these features (e.g. Zaku Mariner eye traverse + torpedoes) but these ideas seem to have faded out somewhat as IRL designers have focused on more humanoid rather than specialized MS.

Don't mock the Zock!

I don't know if it's official but most strategy type games with them also have them move well on land better than some Zaku types so the Dom like movement actually helps the fat thing move pretty decent.

Only two cute girls die in ZZ, so you're safe.

Why does the GM get a bad rep when we know that it was a successful Mobile Suit? Is it just because it's the designated jobber?
>>
>>14632512
Because, overall, the Feddies will not spend a single dime more than they have to while Zeon tends to go out of their way to produce a large variety of generally high performance machines that reach their regular troops and are often superior than the equivalent GM variant at their particular role. I don't think the GM gets a bad rep at all, but Zeeks have gone for stuff like Gelgoogs and the motherfuckin Doven Wolf and it makes the GM look relatively bad.

It evens out by CCA where they're so down in resources and manpower they're limited to fielding a decent general use machine like the Gearas, and while the Feddies are still trucking on with the Jegan they also start churning out crap like the ReZEL.

What's better the OVA or RE:0096?
>>
>>14632512
Federation only ever makes GMs so GMs have to job. If there were some model inferior to the GM then that could be the designated jobber. As it goes now, the standard GM is a jobber and the higher end variants sometimes do better..

Unless you make a mistakes like 0080 where the default and most numerous GM is retconned into being a "high end variant" yet jobs in the animation anyway.. and then the best GMs in that show also job anyway without putting up a fight because the Kampfer needs to be in pristine condition before it fights the Alex.

In Origin I think the GMs are portrayed better, while (early) Guncannons are portrayed as being shit because they are more primitive in design or something.

>>14632621
they're both the same thing except OVA is already all out and TV series is still airing

Who? Haman and Puru 2?
>>
Will we get a 13th clone of Puru?
>>
>>14632626
The Guncannons are the Federation half-assing a competitor to the Zaku that they weren't taking particularly seriously.

After a squad of like twelve gets decimated by a dream team of Ral, Char, and the Black Tri-stars, Tem Ray is able to convince the Federation that they need to step up their game, and so Project V is born.

Does anyone have that picture of a mobile suit (I think it was a sazabi or a sinanju) in a bunny outfit?

It's a Gebera Tetra in multipe outfits, like swimsuit, police gear, bunny suit, "naked", etc.
/aco/ has the robot thread, ask there for quicker results.

Gerbera Tetra with Kaempfer's shoulders rather than the giant nozzles it has would be perfect

Q. This is for those who have completed this game.

1. What am I supposed to do in Mission 3? For some reason it keeps giving me time limit up despite sweeping the area.

2. Hoe to unlock specials and extras?

>2. How to unlock specials and extras?
Fixed it.
Please ignore the mistake in the previous.

I had a dumb question and figured it could go in a thread that'd collect multiple dumb questions so that everyone could get some answers.
Additionally, such threads have been done before, both on /m/ and other boards.

Where do you guys go to download your anime?

I want to download all the Gundam OVAs onto my psp so I'll have something to watch on a very long trip, but my psp can only hold mp4 files and most of the torrents on nyaa.se are mkv files. I tried converting the mkv's to mp4 using vlc but I just end up with videos with no audio.

Could anyone help? Or at the very least, recommend me some good /m/ shows or movies to download and watch?
>>
>>14637253
Handbrake.

Handbrake is ALL you need.

To convert from MKV to MP4, that is.

Just make sure Fast Decode is checked under the Video tab for silky smooth playback on literally anything.
>>
>>14637266
Wow anon, thanks a lot. I've been searching the web for programs to convert, but all I kept getting are those bullshit ones they make you pay for. Thanks!

>>14637270
Yeah, Nyaa.se is what I use too. I was wondering if there are other reliable ones.
>>
>>14637266
Sorry, but could you possibly give me advice on something?

I converted using Handbrake, but it had the same problem as VLC where the video works fine, but there's no audio at all. Why does that happen? How do I fix it?

I'm guessing it has something to do with how the mkv file has multiple language options? Because I converted a video that was only Japanese and that worked fine, although the subs didn't appear.

One autist trolling. It's like the Showa Sucks troll. One dedicated shitposter can bring down an entire board.

1. Just knock out all the enemy forces.
2. Finish the game.
