I guess it did suprised his opponent so there's that.

I've always wondered why the right arm's joint was so much stronger than the left arm's, and why the elbow joint was weaker than the hand joint. Imagine what would happened if his right arm or his left hand broke off instead.

You might as well be asking why the gouf custom was able to spiderman hang on ruined buildings and sprint along freeways that couldn't handle its weight while Shiro's team was operating under "pseudo-realistic" physics in comparison to make them plod along.

The arm was dead anyway from the heat rod's electrical surge, the joint was probably blown out. And he needed a way to even out the range advantage of the Gouf's sword. What's so hard to understand about that?

That arm got paralyzed by a localized EM attack and fucked up by the Gouf's heat sword. If I had to ascribe any logic to how he was able to tear it off with his other arm, I'd say that was why.

actually, by extending the 'weapon' as it were, you increase the momentum and thus the force on impact.

This increases reach slightly as well.

I haven't actually watched 08th yet, but at one point isn't he down on one knee with the Gouf in front of him? Couldn't he have just grabbed the beam saber out of his leg and fucked him?
