I completely and utterly hate the original Mobile Suit Gundam, yet like Zeta and ZZ, and I do not see what others like so much about it. I prefer the Origin renditions of it.

Gundam and Evangelion led me down the dark path into hentai. It all started with a seemingly innocent image, then I ended up in a dark alley in geocities filled with porn.

I skipped the TV series and just watched the Ideon movies. I actually plan to go back and watch it though.

Still haven't finished VOTOMs, any Mazinger, any incarnation of Getter Robo, Code Geass, SEED Destiny, 00, Dougram, any Byston Well entry, Daiguard, GitS: SAC, Harlock, Yamato, Giant Gorg, and more. I'm way behind on classics and "classics" and I don't even watch a lot of seasonal mecha either.

I really dislike the original Gundam TV series.

I haven't watched SEED or Destiny but I know all the OP/ED songs by heart.

I really want to watch the getter OVAs but I don't want to read the manga.

Seen everything in the Gundam franchise save for Turn-A (or Re:0096, but that's not really any different from the OVAs from what I've read), yet I don't really feel any inclination to go out and watch it at all in spite of many people saying how good it is.

I like Gundam, but I don't love it. I especially don't see the appeal of circle jerking over the One Year War so much. There's so many interesting ideas that were introduced in late UC that constantly coming back to the beginning of the series seems asinine.

Then again, I'm more of a sci-fi/high concept guy than a /k/fag, so maybe that's why.

I've never watched a Gundam series before.
I started to watch mecha shows because of the cute boys in tight clothes they usually have and the usually subtle homolove.

I fucking hate dubs but I've never seen 0079 without the dubs. And I love 0079.

I thought the Giant Robo OVA sucked. It starts out good, and the animation was great, but I hated how little focus Robo got. He never has a single long fight against an enemy robot. I got tired of the twists, I was sick of the Tragedy of Bashtarle flashback being played repeatedly, and I thought that the Vogler sphere just being cancelled out by the Shizuma drives, and all of the villian's deeds being because of a fucking misunderstood saying was really stupid.

I haven't bothered to finish Shin Mazinger for mostly the same reasons. I feel that Imagawa took two old mecha series and just dumped a bunch of boring, unrelated crap over them until it drowned out the stuff I came to see.

And I loved Frontier.

I had a dream where I was fucking a hooker kneeling on a hotel bed in a full body Rick Dom costume, while my gf who was encased in a Zaku II costume had to watch.

I stopped watching NGE halfway because it felt like an average MotW series with boring fanservice. Instead, I skipped the latter half resorting to recaps and went straight to EoE, which I genuinely enjoyed.

Then, looking for something more serious, I watched LoGH and stopped on 2/3rds. Enjoyable as a soap opera, but laughable on it's supposedly 2deep4u politics for its binary germanwank vs US/EU bullshit.

I'm not sure if I even like non-Oshii related /m/ shows other than kiddie Ultraman shit.
Concept-wise, I'm interested in Dai-Guard, Bokurano, FLAG and Tetsujin-28, but if I abandon another show I'd probably leave anime for a long time again

I really don't like the line of though behind most "real robot" shows

If you're going to have something as ridiculous and absurd as a giant robot in the show, the robot and the entire rest of the setting should attempt to be as ridiculous as possible to go along with it. Otherwise, you end up with a show that's either half as fun as it could be or half as able to be taken seriously as it could be. Shows like Dougram that have otherwise great stories really suffer from this (and I understand that they needed to put in robots to be able to make the show marketable for television at all, but I personally think the show would have been better as a novel anyway)

Granted, most "super robot" shows don't really reach the silliness threshold that they should either, but they at least make more of an attempt and a few (mostly those directed by Imagawa) actually succeed.

I think you've got too strict of a definition for what a robot is and what it can be in the world of fiction.

Real Robot and Super Robot are just marketing terms that have grown out of hand in the realm of fans.

It's almost like you've only seen parodies of the term and think that every show from then have to adhere to those parodies in the strictest definition.

I do not. I actually think the problem lies with people who do have too strict a limitation on what a robot is and can be. That's the whole reason quote unquote "real robot" shows exist. They place limitations on how the robots behave, and in doing so, they also place limitations on the narrative.

And of course, that's not to mention how jarring it can be to shift from the usual SERIOUS WAR DRAMA that most of these shows attempt into the cartoony, toyetic robot battles that result.

So for these reasons, I prefer the robots and everything around them to be as unrealistic as possible.
