>The mecha has a mind of its own
>Acts of its own will to help or protect the protagonist
I love this. What other anime do this?
Also, post whatever other tropes you love.

It works best if the mech doesn't communicate verbally.

Eureka 7 comes to mind of those yet unmentioned.
When the robot is down but then it's eyes glow and gets up to kick some ass
When the mecha comes crashing through a wall with the pilot riding on its hand, and the shot is done in such a way that you can really see how big it is.

I love when it when the pilot begs their machine to keep working despite it being completely trashed. Especially when it doesn't actually have a mind of it's own, they're just that attached to it. That part in Mazinkaiser vs AKDS when Tetsuya got fucked up taking all those guys with him and was begging Great Mazinger to move just a bit longer to keep helping out killed me. Along with that is the mecha gore that often accompanies it. Oil/Lubricant "blood" and dismemberment looking painful even though it's a machine
Very rare occurrence, but I like it when the mecha's AI bugs out just before biting it and it starts "convulsing". (Yazan's Hambrabi, Mashymre's Zaku III, that one crashed Jegan from F91...)

Gargantia on the Verdurous Planet's Chamber was a total brobot.
>>14593217
>>14593225
I agree.
>>14593228
Yeah, this was the thing I liked most about Eva.
I also remember shades of this in TTGL and Diebuster.
>>14593217
There's a little bit of this in Layzner.

In Brain Powered, Lasse was going to sacrifice himself in a last-ditch effort, but his Brain forcefully ejected him from the cockpit, and went in alone.
I've always loved this little scene from Rayearth. Doesn't look like much, but you kinda feel the bond between them.
Tristia of the Deep Blue Sea series

Not necessarily a pilotable mecha, but a robot.
>>14593225
>It works best if the mech doesn't communicate verbally.
I disagree

Came here to post this
>>14593365
good scene for that :Gundam Wing : Endless Waltz when Wing Zero reawakens after dunking into the ocean to complete one last mission.
>>14593217
This thing technically qualifies. Now let's never mention it again.

she is scary. Scary awesome but unless you are Fukai, run. Fast.
It was hinted at several times that Lagann has a mind of its own but never went into details .
SHAIAN from Dragon's Heaven had a well defined personality.

Is this from a Colgate commercial?
>>14593225
Indeed. Though there's certainly nothing wrong with the alternative.
Gundam Sandrock.

>Nobody mentioned Rahxephon
Pretty sure that thing also had a mind on its own.

I never understood what Heroman actually was. Is it the spirit of his father? Aside from being protection, how does it operate? I really wanted more of this series.

what do you mean several times.. i felt like it was just the once at the end of hte movie
>>14600621
I always saw it as Joey's "inner-heroism." And that's how it not only seems to operate and act on it's own aside from "attack" and basic commands like that, but also manages to save Joey when he tries to sacrifice himself.

> tearing itself away from Gurren and running off

Ixtli was its mind, yes. But the Xephon itself was just a doll.

Sandrock apparently had an "ALICE II" system installed, then it went ALOHA SNACKBAR and blew up in the same episode it was revealed to have an AI
>>14593235
It got weird in the later shows though, when the core could manifest as a person.
