Outlaw Star on one hand had surprisingly bad animation, I did not like the music, the first half bore me, samurai woman stopped being relevant after her premier, the tone whiplashed between semi-grounded to cartoony, and the villains were a massive joke (only /m/ villains comparable are the Silver Tribe from Heroic Age, Black Magma from Sun Vulcan, the Nejira from Meagranger, and the aliens whose race I forget are called from Majestic Prince). Angel Links on the other hand hooked me within the first episode, had a good main villain, the action was good, had enjoyable music, and the characters while corny at least had useful moments (plus who doesn't want a cat sword?) with the only real negative being the animation over time which was not as bad in comparison to OS.

OP here, stand alone classics from the 70s I've seen include Tekkaman, Casshern, Hurricane Polymar, Combattler V, Voltes V, Daimos, Daltanious, Brave Raideen, Zambot 3, Daitarn 3, Devilman, Cutey Honey, and Steel Jeeg. I want to see classic Gaiking, but nobody uploaded Discotek subs anywhere.

As for 80s standalone stuff my recs include what >>14582812 stated, Dougram, Dunbine, Dragonar, SPT Layzner (the first 8 eps are kind of slow), Panzer World Galient (semi-slow first act although the compilation movies fix this), Baldios, Machine Robo: Revenge of Chronos, Orguss, L.Gaim (first half was a bit on the slow side), God Mars (Zule is an awesome villain, won't lie), and Tobikage if you don't mind cliffhanger endings and wonky animation.

I'd also recommend The Ultraman except it isn't subbed and until someone licenses it proper I don't see the average person looking up information at the Ultra Wikia after every single episode.
