Old Gyanko looks more "cartoon-like" than new Gyanko, seeming somewhat goofy and humorous in look, and personality. Having not seen GBF Try, my guess would be that she's there to add more flavor to the setting.

New Gyanko in comparison is fetishized a bit more. The emphasis of the changes are there to make her look prettier (Like the face and hair) and draw attention to her body. The dress is not only form fitting, but flares out much more at the hem, creating an hourglass shape that's not apparent in the previous design. The way her shirt is drawn seems to have the intent of drawing the eye more to her chest, which is tightened up in this version.
