Let's look at the actual pros and cons

Takahashi
Pros:
+ Story clearly extensively planned
+ Doesn't try to force in a skirmish every episode
+ Character motives and actions are more clear
+ Makes proper use of episode number.

Cons:

- Characters aren't as flashy (could be a pro)
- Pacing could be a little slow for some people
- Character deaths aren't quite as creative

Tomino
Pros:
+ Memorable characters
+ Extensive background setting
+ Solid endings and setups

Cons:
- Character motives can be hard for some to follow
- Battles will be forced into an episode that don't advance the narrative at all
- Series usually have way too many episodes or too few
- Only plans the start and end of his series while writing the path to the ending as the series progresses

Overall I prefer Tomino's stuff but he has a lot of problems.

Dougram did not need to be over 70 episodes and given how Layner and Galient turned out when he was given the notice to wrap it out it feels like Takahashi is more in love with his settings than his characters who feel poorly fleshed out and developed in comparison.
