in sentinel the titular machine was able to bounce shots, while other smartguns just have smaller I-field shenanigans mounted on the end of their barrels and have more limited shenaniganing.

banshee's beam smartgun is a new design that is a exposed barrel that vaguely resembles a fin funnel and has extreme variable aiming so beam blasts can change trajectory and arc around, almost looking like lightning

It's smart in the sense that it can curve beams to hit the target easier, not around corners. And Minovsky particles still fry open electronics and disrupt radio waves, so short range combat is still necessary.
