***READ THE GUIDE***

For those new to gunpla/plamo or even just new to this thread; please read the guide. Please read it before asking questions, as there is a chance it has already been answered there.
For those unfamiliar, "plamo" is a shortened form of "plastic model". If it's made of plastic, someone can probably help you here!
If you're new, you're gonna fuck up. Don't worry! If you're experienced, don't make the new people worry!
>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Try being specific, especially about your materials and process. Post pictures whenever possible; even if the kit/part looks bad, you are more likely to get help posting pictures.

Any tips on how to loosen the stiff joints on RG frames?
>>
>>14519898
You don't want to do that. Just be patient when adjusting them.
>>

Can't you just decrease surface area contact or lubricate the joint? Just use some common sense.

Be careful trying to loosen up RG joints. From my experience with them they can go from too tight to too loose very quick. Double-check that all the sliding parts are hooked up & cut out properly, then try working the joint again. After that, hit them with a little lube. I would not recommend shaving down parts just because those frames are so delicate.
>>
>>14519981
Experimenting and trying to find new ways to resell you your favorite kit, along with what >>14520036 said. Just catering and trying to find a crowd that's willing to pay PG price and detail at MG scale.

Though, I think it's a failed one that's gonna be one-off. If the High Resolution Barbatos sold well, we'd already be swarmed with High Resolution RX-78-2, Strike, or whatever other popular kit, maybe even a High Resolution Zaku II, Char custom or MP.

What's on everybody's desk right now? I just snapped together my The O. Waiting to see if any of the thrusters will need glue.

Re-uploaded different pic to show the messala's yellow beams can fit into The O's beam sabre hilts. It's in the left hand.
>>
>>14520997
My model had problems with the back and front leg plates holding onto that rectangular peg, for some reason.
>>
>>14521008
Well I think with The O there might be quality control issues. All of the tiny black thrusters fit differently, some oddly. I will eventually have to glue something.

As for the leg plates that was some inherent marks on mine. Must be from the odd shape and the engineering at the time it was made.
>>
What are some good cheap Kotobukiya kits? I'm on budget now because college
>>
>>14521022

The 1/144 or whatever Muv Luv shits are like 2500-2900 yen apiece. You can literally get them off Amazon Prime for 30 bucks and under.

If you want to buy from Japan you could get some of the old Armored Core kits for around the same price, and the Megaman kits are cheaper, and I think some old SRW kits and the Etrian Odyssey girl kits(Sniper and Imperial Soldier) are also around 30 USD. The Phantasy Star Online kits, the older ones, are also around that price, maybe less.

But most of those kits are worse than the Muv-Luv kits in terms of the plastic quality, engineering, etc.

I've gotten a big problem today.

I found one of my primer cans (Duplicolor) leaking from the nozzle and other seams/openings. So there was a clear liquid dribbling out and I'm very much sure from the smell that it's the solvent.

>>14521176
I'm well aware he replies to himself, but thinking I'm him is downright retarded since he only does it to praise himself or ask questions to himself. I wish there was better options then ignoring the fuckhead.
>>
>>14521166
I know, I feel the same way. Just don't let it get to you. We tried pointing these things out to him when he first arrived and we didn't get anywhere, there's not much else left to do. Posters like him and the current Kuromukuro rager get off scot-free and that's just the way it is. I'm currently working on being a better painter so that when he posts his fucking garbage I can reply with something that looks professional. Eventually I hope the general can come together to be able to blow every single one of his shitty builds out of the water.

I'm actually depressed at how much money he wastes on the hobby, really. And then to come here and expect recognition for throwing it away is embarassing.
>>
>>14521202
>>14521204

Seriously, only going to post this once, but if you talk about him, that's what he wants. You don't get it. Someone posted an essay on /m/ like a week ago about shitposter dynamics, how every board has a couple severely autistic no-life dudes who just shit up the board to make some kind of name for themselves and rile people up.

You can either take it to mods directly in their 4chinz IRC and try to get him kill-on-sight banned or you can ignore it. And since mods don't seem to ban him, ignoring it is your one choice.

Guy spends years and hundreds of dollars to troll a single 4chan board. Who fucking cares. Stop talking about it. Ignore him, ignore everyone who replies to him. Let's move on from this.

There are so many other kits that actually DESERVE a revive

Is that just people who do straight-assembly with no painting?
Is it building it and painting it, but with no customizations? Even then, do part replacement customs count, or does it have to be scratched?

I've been here for over 2 years now, but I always see people using this term in different ways, was wondering if there's a general consensus on a definition for it.

The Hi-Res kit is basically an MG-sized PG, but it's also got that special plating & hyper-glossed look going on. Also, the frame is solid as fuck. HLJ did a build video for the initial Hi-Res Barbatos and Syd was losing his shit over it.

Personally I'm miffed that the hi-res is so wildly different from the anime model and the gunpla. I mean, just look at it, everything about it is superior. The shoulders are nicer, the mix of blues and grays is gorgeous, the brown tones are a nice accent. All in all, this is the Barbatos we should've gotten across the board.

niiiice, tell me, just how messy are the decals for the damn funnels? Those are the ones I dread once I reach that section. Also, how backheavy it is? does it really needs the clear support base to stand up?

I'm going slow with mine, since I can only work on it on weekends and applying every single decal until they are in the perfect spot is extremely time consuming

The HWS parts are actually VERY simple, if anything the most complicated section are those extra leg armors and they are comprised of like 6 parts each only

The Funnel decals are pretty bad, after ripping most of the decals on 4 funnels I gave up and just poorly threw some purple Tamiya paint on the rest. They give you the white bits on the funnel decals separately too.

When you've got the backpack on, it's pretty bacheavy, so the little stand it comes with will help. It weirdly feels really front heavy when he's on the base the Hi-Nu comes with. Whether or not I've broken the joint on it, but just something it keep in mind.

I'll give the HWS a shot later, but going from the funnel decals, the HWS shield decals will kill me.
>>
>>14523092
I see
given how tacked the hi nu looks with the HWS I just plan to leave it in a stand up pose, just holding its weapons
at least the decals on the shield don't wrap around surfaces, they simply are a lot, like 20 or so

I just got my RG Mk-II titans and it came with these cords.
I took a quick look at the guide but didn't really see anything about them. Is there a recommended tool for cutting them or should i just use scissors?
>>
>>14523701
I just used my knife. There's no "right way" but you do want to avoid fraying. If it does start to fray though, a dab of nail polish can help stop it
>>
>>14523712
Thank you very much.
>>
>>14523701
So, a recommendation, cut a bit longer than prescribed. The cord is actually longer than what you'll need, so you should have room for at least 1cm extra if not more. I built mine over a year ago, so it's hard to ballpark exactly how much extra there is. Trim from there.

I learned this issue first-hand. One of the cords I cut for my Titans Mk-II on the legs is a hair too short. It also frayed. So there's one cord (out of, what, six?) that looks like shit. Then I end up with extra, but nothing long enough to replace the ugly one.

It was a harsh lesson.

wtf Bandai includes 2 multicolored runners of parts for the new armor but then just throw in 3 whole runners of a Gundam MK-II just to built a hyper bazooka? they should have just used the bazooka from the MK-II 1.0, all the parts were on a single runner and would be much cheaper.
>>
>>14523826
P-Bandai kits are often retarded with runners. RG Zeta 3 has a lot of wasted plastic as well.
>>
>>14523834
Z-3 was just a recolor, they got wacky with those runners to get the colors right, they did the same with my G-3 OYW. this just feels like a waste just to get one extra gun.

Playing around with Aves Apoxie Putty for the first time. Set some onto a piece that needed the back portion sculpted and a small flat putty piece onto some plaplate for detailing patterns.

When is it best to scribe detail into the putty? The packaging isn't super clear on that, it just says to let things cure 24 hours before sanding which would only apply to the piece I'm adding a back to.

Richigo is still around. I think ANT had to move but I also remember seeing him around recently, maybe a month ago. He's probably busy with life.

In that case:
no nubs
no atrocious gouged nubmarks
seams welded
painted
coated
customized
stickers all aligned nicely
attention to detail
good lighting when the photo was taken

Scratchbuilding in general is fun to learn too, but I'd only recommend it if you can find junker kits for cheap or have a lot of spare parts lying around. This sword is from an Amazing Red Warrior sword blade, a GM Bazooka, and a part from the booster of an MG Aile Strike, plus a bit of pla plate. I was gonna use it with the GM but I figured it's more of a Zeon looking design than a feddie one.

I'm told that plastic "For Sale" signs you can pick up at dollar stores are actually made of styrene, so I'm gonna try and see if I can get anything outta them as a cheap plaplate substitute.

But yeah, the most important skills anyone who wants to do some serious building are

>Painting (Be it handbrushing, airbrushing, or rattle cans), or hell even just top coating.

I've gotten sanding down and I've been working on seam wielding but there are a lot of times when I get stuck since some parts can't be wielded together without forcing other pieces to get stuck with it which makes painting a bitch, like with the Type C/Powered's arm/elbow joint where the joint is supposed to be in the arm when it snaps together, how do I work around that? Do I just commit myself to masking hell?

Hey /m/
I'm getting the MG 1/100 Gundam Titus kit in the mail today and am planning on performing my first custom job ever. something incredibly small, not too huge a venture. Just what's pictured: I'm gunna pay homage to an old favorite of mine and give Titus a football-helmetish treatment like Gundam Maxter. I've read the guide and have seen some great options for how to achieve the paint job, but honestly there are so many options I don't know what to choose. ponying up for an airbrush machine might seem pretty excessive for such a relatively small change when I could dilute some paints and just do it that way. What do ya'll suggest?

It is. I love me the Titus. Generally I prefer getting models of villainous suits/armors like the Zock/Z'gok, the Neue Ziel, The Turn X, etc. and shy away from the actual Gundams but this one is just so crazy. I love it! The huge shoulders, hands and legs, the laser donuts and fucking LASER KNEES. Its the best and the only thing I'd want out of this kit beyond just being as awesome as it is if I could do this Maxter modification. I don't want to screw it up though so that's why I appeal to you, /m/!

I'd say just start with brush painting. Get some soft brushes, and some modelling paint. I would normally recommend priming, but you could probably just get away with some light sanding since the blue and grey and much darker than the white plastic, and there won't be much rubbing except for around the neck.

Just remember to have patience and to thin your paints.

Does anyone paint their gunpla in 80-100 degree weather without any trouble?

I'm trying to decide if I should get an airbrush or not. I'm not going to have access to a climate controlled area. Painting in my garage is the best possible option, but it is always awfully hot and dry for a good part of the year.

Thanks.
>>
>>14528026
Hot weather can dry paints too fast, so if you can, use thinner with a retarding agent in it, like Mr. Leveling Thinner. Also, Mr. Retarder. Or even both at once.

Thanks a lot.

for that mouth guard (dont know what its really called) either buy pla plate or styrene rods and glue them together. OR cut some plastic out from the runners and sand them down to your preferred size and glue them. for the paint, remember, thin your paints and multiple coats

This guide covers seam welding.

Everyone on here literally thinks they're god's gift to gundam models. Nobody ever backs it up.
>>
>>14528701
I gave it a look but he didn't really seem to cover what I'm looking for. He talked about seam welding, then kinda just skipped to painting. Maybe I have to dig more but this didn't seem to teach me anything.
>>
>>14528695
You weld/putty the seam, Sand, then prime and paint over them. It's not rocket science.

If you mean how you deal with parts that get locked into other parts but need to be a separate color, you either paint them beforehand, mask them, and then lock them into the part your seam welding around them and remove the mask after you finish seam welding and masking the outer parts, or else you seam weld it all together at once and go cray on the masking for different parts.

Either way you need to plan your build process out.
>>
>>14528618
how much trouble is it to switch up your internet for all your different trips?
>>
>>14528762
Makes sense. I really hate masking but I'll give it a shot.

Premium Bandai, limited production kits for character customs and MSV suits that cost an arm and a leg. Sellers will usually indicate which kits are P-Bandai, and often they won't be able to restock once they're sold out.
>>
>>14529153
how do I join the p-bandai club?
I guess there is a fee.

ib4 no dirty gaijin allowed into seekrit gunpra buying curabu.
>>
>>14529210
You don't. It's not a club, it's an online site that only accepts orders from asia. You have to use a 3rd party retailer. I usually use Gentei kits, though Nippon Yasan's fine too if you preorder.
>>
>>14529210
You go to an online retailer and find a p-bandai marked kit that you'd like and is in stock, then chop off the limb of your choice and mail it to them with a sticky note requesting your kit. Then you wait for it to arrive, and enjoy.
>>
>>14529153
>>14529210

You're a bit off.

P Bandai is the bandai webshops exclusive products that can only be bought from the webshop. The reason its expensive to get them everywhere else is because of middleman mark up.

The reason they don't get restocked is that they're limited run instead of continuous releases and are based on the preorder amounts to get an idea of demand to fill. Sometimes they do a second run like a year or two later but its not a garuntee.

And the reason people hate them is that the webshop doesn't ship to filthy Gaijin addresses which forces you to use a middleman.
>>
>>14529268
Ah that's what imagined to be the case, however with an added fee of a membership or some shit like that.
