Mika is the standard angsty teen ace pilot taken to the extreme and broken. Other gundam MC get a grip on their moody antics, but Mika is too far gone

The original pilot of the gusion seems to have brought up the point that Mika seems to enjoy killing and Mika kinda seems to agree with him. Maybe he'll go full "mad dog off the chain" in part two?

Not really. He is driven to find or reach a place in Mars where they wont worry about being malnourished. Have actual comfortable places to live in and most of all a sense of belonging in a place that had denied them such basic necessities.
The battle of edmonton earned them a place as equals but Mika lost his arm and a part of an eye (chances are later on someone invents a AV powered muscle prosthetic to let Mika use his arm and eye outside of Barbatos)

Sure they had earned a spot as a Teiwaz subsidiary and Orga is doing well for himself but in S2 it is hinted he is losing his passion as Mika prepares for the inevitable war between the blocs, Gjallarhorn, pmcs and Inzario's ineveitable return to take back his place.

You do realise that an elongated escort mission is LITERALLY the plot of The Last of Us. The best written video game in existence. You can make a great story from anything, and the premise they did have was actually solid. It was the characters and animation that was shit.

It's less "nobody can actually make a good 50 episode anime anymore" it's that a lot of anime directors seem to be unable to pace things properly -- who knows what executive fuckery goes on behind the scenes but I'd be it's because of that most of the time.
A lot of shows are either too rushed, or too drawn out. I think the cour schedule really strangles a lot of creativity and forces the hand of a lot of directors and producers who aren't good at pacing. It's all to do with buying broadcast time and sponsors and shit, I know, but a lot of anime would genuinely benefit a lot from not being consigned to 10 - 13 or 22 - 26, but being slotted enough episodes for the story to run its course.

It has nothing to do with that, ever since 2007 when the economy tanked anime has been moving towards this. 50 episode shows were the norm for the three decades before and nobody had a real problem. There were only a few 25-26 episode shows in between too, but never really any 50 episode shows split into two seasons over the course of two years. It's really just a money problem: it's easier to recoup costs faster from splitting shows up yearly instead of having one running 50 episode show.
