Marida's back story which is intact in the OVA is that after she was the sole survivor of the Ple clones from the conflict in ZZ, she was sold into sex slavery as a child.

Angelo's back story in the novels is that his father was murdered by Feds, and his mother raped by them in front of him. His mother never psychologically recovers, and a man who later marries her under the guise of caring for her repeatedly molested Angelo. Angelo endured it because all he cared about was his mother recovering, but she ends up killing herself at which point his step father tossed him away.

Cutting out his back story made them change his fate in the OVA. Originally he didn't survive that fight with Banagher, he smashed his own cockpit and killed himself after Banagher saw the truth about him the way he did with Marida.
